Stock HIDs too bright?

Its been almost a year with my 2013 Brz now love the car

Im not sure if people are just sensitive to bright HIDs now or just pissed, ever since i bought the car i been flash with high beams more than i can remember i flash back to let them know im not using my high beams.

Anybody else with this problem?

Just take in thought...how do people who see aftermarket HID's feel?

It's horrible, even after a long trip a few hours in. Late at night and you see a car coming in with HID's horribly adjusted, makes me want to tailgate.

I digress...

Most new cars now come with HID's people should be used to it by now

My mind went to this:

I haven't adjusted my settings, but I had the missus drive in front of me at various distances in her VW Rabbit. She reported that it wasn't more annoying than the next HID-equipped car. The input was provided in real-time over the phone at said various distances.

Adjust the level control. The first two settings are too high and gets right into opposing drivers' lines of sight, in my opinion.

I'm surprised your getting flashed, especially considering how low the twins sit.

The stock projectors have a pretty decent cutoff too. Have you made any adjustments?

It's different when something is factory installed and something is installed by a weekend warrior.

Chee-Hu 01-07-2014 03:13 PM

I have not had anyone flash me for 14 months.

This ^. When I first got it, I found 0 to be too high. I have mine at 2 most of the time. I run 1 when it's raining/snowing and visibility is poorer. I only run 0 when there's not enough street lights.

Hope it helps.

there are 2 scrolls on your left side parallel to your steering wheel one is to adjust the lamination of your interior/ gauges the other one on the right adjusts where your low beams are pointed. i think you have it pointed too high turn on your headlights at night and play around with the position.

edit: damn too late lol

Kuri 01-07-2014 03:40 PM

I run mine in zero :|

IMHO, the cutoff at settings 0 and 1 are still too high. Like mabviper, I use setting 2 for normal driving.

Sniper2606 01-07-2014 05:23 PM

Well i do like having the setting as highest possible, gives me a better view of everything....

too bad for other i guess

Well in that case, high beams all the way!

I use 3 usually, it's pretty well lit around where I drive.

You usually gotta pay double for that kind of action, Cotton.

I don't usually spend time and $ in those kind of places. ;)

m.box.design 01-08-2014 01:58 PM

i've gone through 3 light setups with my FR-S, and nobody has ever flashed me in 17 months of ownership. Stock -> PnP HID kit -> 10-series

I've never been flashed in the BRZ at the highest setting. I've seen other BRZs running at lower settings that were as high or higher than mine.

I get flashed in the M3 a bit, it has FXR projectors (a proper retrofit - not a PnP crap setup). That's due to the crap suspension on the car bouncing though.

OrbitalEllipses 01-08-2014 02:29 PM

I've been flashed a few times - I get some schadenfreude satisfaction in flashing them right back with my even brighter brights.

as a retrofit'd owner, I agree with you. When someone flashes me, I can blind them back

Poodles 01-09-2014 03:05 AM

The level adjustment is only for when you have weight in the back... if you're lowering the lights, you're hurting your range (this is important as you you'll outrun your headlights at a lower speed than normal)

Are you hauling stuff around in your trunk or back seat?

xcelir8brz 01-10-2014 06:57 PM

Easy fix. Roll the dial to 4. Open hood and manually adjust height of each headlight against a garage or something until you like it. Drive car. Now you can go high or low with dial. You now have so much control that how it was set from factory.

The proper way to adjust the height of projector beams is to use an alignment machine, not against the wall that's just ghetto lol!

wheelhaus 01-10-2014 07:48 PM

I usually adjust the level control so I can see the cutoff below other drivers side mirrors. This is usually a 1 or 0 depending if there's junk in the trunk or not. Even with the slab style road construction around southern Denver (lots of bouncing back and forth) causing the cutoff to bounce into their mirrors and oncoming cars, I haven't been flashed in all 18 months of owning the car.

KelvinBRZ 01-10-2014 09:00 PM

Mine is always 0. I switch back between 0-1 though however. I just feel more safe with my HIDs covering a further field of vision :/
