Ideas of making FR-S with BRZ model features

I've had my mind set on a BRZ Limited but I would really like the FR-S with more interior options like nav , premium sound, possible leather or leather/alcantara seats?

The only reason I'm going BRZ over FR-S is I like these options.

Has anyone investigated or priced these options. Will Scion make these options available for an extra charge?

Scion says no. We will never see Leather/alcantara seats and HIDS, and dual Zone AC. All we will ever get is push start in the Release Series FR-S next year. You don't need nav if you opt for the Bespoke. The Bespoke is probably better than the Nav system in the BRZ, because it will always be up to date because of your cell phone.

The leather Alcantara seats coupe be just seat covers, so price them at the subaru dealer parts department.

Move to Europe and get a Toyota GT86.

And get ready to choke on that price quote!

Can't have it all you gotta make some sacrifices. What do you like from each car that out weighs the other? If you only like how the Fr-S look's its pretty much identical except for the front. If you really want all the extras shoot for the BRZ. I like the auto climate, push start, and leather/alcantara seats but not willing to pay 30+ out the door for a limited so im getting a premium.

Isn't the stereo in the FRS better in terms of watts than the BRZ?

FRS is 300 watts:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5280

BRZ is like 190ish:
Premium trim:
6.1 in Display AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA/DVD/DivX audio stereo 196-watt

If you're talking touch-screen-fanciness, then yeah BRZ one-ups the FRS in that department, but the audio in the FRS will sound better in the stock setup. I'm still trying to decide what I'm going to do.

If I were getting the Fr-S I wouldn't even opt for a stereo upgrade...aftermarket will always be better.

Fairly easy to get leather seats and good nav radio

It's quite straight forward to get good leather seats installed in the FR-S. I plan on doing that once the regular seats start showing a bit of age. And while I'm at it, I'll probably get seat heaters added at the same time as it is fairly trivial and it will make my wife happy. I did both in a Miata I owned (I did the work myself but a good upholstery shop will do it if you don't want to). And I must say... it actually looked factory. Very soon Katzkin.com or other online leather seat cover companies will have ones for the FR-S in stock for reasonable fee. Take a look at what they have for the tC.

As for the radio, this is standard double din so there are a large number of models out there to choose from. Pick a Pioneer if you don't want to worry about wiring (although Crutchfield and the like will include a wiring harness free of charge). Or go to CarToys and they will install it for you for not too much.

As for the auto climate control : I see the FR-S as being much better than having complicated climate control. I'm constantly fighting my current Toyota to "just leave the damn settings alone" rather than it trying to adjust everything. I like three manual dials where I get to set exactly what I want.

looks like http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POC...+2+(SPH-DA100) is much better then bespoke..well, at least for me since I'm an android user!

ngabdala 04-26-2012 07:16 PM

Dude that's sick. I wonder how nav works. The reason I want a car with nav is because I hate when people call my android while Im using nav.

I love my android. I just speak where I want to go and it goes :)

I may have just leaned towards the FR-S.

I'll add the best nav/multimedia unit that is best for my needs.

And I'll save money allowing me to go with different (possibly leather) seats with heating pads if after a year I want to change them.

Plus the difference in price will allow me to get some sweet rims and use the stock ones for winter tires.

Thanks for the info!

HA! I was gonna post that one. It looks better than Bespoke, and it beams the full maps application to the device from Android and iOS. Love for both (smart move). AND it's cheaper than the Bespoke.

My only question is why have photos sync to it? I'd NEVER use that feature. My buddy has a GTI with the first model in it. He only uses the photos to show off. :P

Itgb 04-26-2012 07:30 PM

If you want all the BRZ Limited options, why don't you just swap a FR-S front bumper on a BRZ and call it a day. :iono:

ngabdala 04-26-2012 07:35 PM

Yes the FR-S bumper looks so much better.

Anyone know if the fr-s comes with a limited slip differential ?

LSD is standard on both cars.

Preamp output volts on RCAs aren't the best. Clarion unit seems better for sound.

True, I'm giving up the auto climate & push button for the FR-S. I can always trade up for the FR-S Release series 1.0, IF it comes with a push button start.

As for the auto climate, you can do what most people do and order the higher-end unit + parts (from Subaru), and then put it on a lower-end car (Scion). I've seen it done on other cars like (censored to prevent trolling). But I would suggest waiting until your warranty expires to prevent voiding it, that's just me of course.

I was thinking about doing this if i end up getting the BRZ. it shouldnt be that difficult to swap.

do you think the headlights would be a relatively easy swap as well? because i like the brz headlights more than the fr-s...

Dude you can get some HIDs for less than 100

That depends on if the BRZ HIDs need wiring. I think some HID lights don't need wiring, IDK.

But why stop at the BRZ headlights? Check out the 86's headlights as well

Prava 04-29-2012 05:03 AM

this is true.
FRS --> put in HIDs and swap headlights
BRZ --> swap front bumper

tripjammer 04-29-2012 12:50 PM

It would be better to get the BRZ premium and swap the front bumper with a frs bumper. Push start with proximity is only $300-$400 aftermarket.

The dual climate control looks better but I bet it would be mad expensive to install it.

That pioneer app radio 2 looks good. Half the price of the bespoke! We still don't have real specs on the bespoke! Why is it $849 to $1200?!?

I'm willing to bet that at least one RS model will get the full package.

I doubt we will ever get it with the dual zone ac. Push start with proximity is easy to add, they did it with the tC.

The bespoke is going to be a failure, unless they add it as standard equipment in model year 2014.

They said they were going to continually update the cars every year, so we will see.

They need to make the HIDs standard on the FR-S. That is all it really lacks that will be hard and very expensive to add later. I wonder who made that decision not to offer hids on the FR-S?

LED taillights and halogen headlights...hmmm does not seem to go together well.

ngabdala 04-30-2012 12:19 AM

Maybe they assume we're all spirited drivers. No one sees our car until we pass them nearing the engine red line so all they see is the rear tail lights :)

Oh and you guys don't want factory or bespoke nav. There are beautiful pioneer nav and multimedia systems that are iphone and android compatible. They are the shit. The one I like goes for $800. Fuck Bespoke.
