Oilless turbos??

Anyone have any experience with them?
I was thinking it might be nice for a low mount setup.

FA20Club.com 12-06-2013 12:49 AM

Comp Turbos makes them. they require periodic maintenance. Only issue with the CT turbos is the design of the billet compressor wheels isnt as great as the ones provided by Precision or FP

i havent ever used a comp turbo. I want to build an unequal length setup and i really dont want to run a pump like avo, plus they seem to have some quality issues.
i like the fa20 kit but i dont like mounting the turbo up high in the car.

I am not trying to build a drag car just a fun street car to go out and destroy tires with.

350matt 12-06-2013 12:23 PM

sounds too good to be true really

looks like they're used on drag cars mainly so will be regularly pulled part and checked

I'd like to be proved wrong though as its a nice idea

Search roadstercycle

taylork057 12-06-2013 12:59 PM

they're a gimmick.. stay away if you drive it daily.

King Tut 12-06-2013 01:47 PM

I bet you would have shit luck with an oilless turbo.

They have to be drained and filled about every 3k miles. They work great but that the only downside is the maintenance on them.

no big deal, I am doing oil changes anyway.
Is it drasticly more expensive to go oilless?

3k is pretty frequent. is this something you can do on your own or do you have to send them to a shop?

mrk1 12-06-2013 09:56 PM

I really like the idea of them, I don't have any experience. For me ever 3k wouldn't be all that bad, my commute is 20 miles total a day, and thats if I even drive the BRZ. And I run a shop so I can do it during the day.

Not having to be so concerned with oil would really open up some design ideas...

i dont daily mine, and i like the idea of mounting it however and where you want.

mrk1 12-06-2013 10:07 PM

Im thinking something like the subi WRC layouts

kinda what i was thinking except i was thinking down low on the front side. that way the over pipe could "j" up to the exhaust outlet. then with your evo10 style intercooler you could a short run in the bottom on the passenger side, and the top outlet straight into the intake manifold.

mrk1 12-06-2013 10:22 PM

I wanted to do a low mount originally but Im really not a fan of oil return pumps, so this could be a way around that

Shit Luck 12-06-2013 10:25 PM

i have been trying to convince myself the avo kit is ok for me...

Keep trying. The AVO kit is perfectly OK for me.

You could talk to drift office about that, they've fit about 11 of them, including pete's. Of course, they are a shop that's done a lot of installs of a lot of different systems, and tend not to make any mistakes on the install that sometimes happens on a DIY.

Mine fits perfect. Almost like oem. I had some install errors because some minor instructions weren't clear but all the bugs have been worked out and it's been fine for 700 miles so far. Just make sure to change to new turbo gaskets for the headers.
