cel after front pipe install
hey guys.. i installed an invidia catless front pipe just over a week ago. yesterday i got a CEL just after pulling away from a parking lot. the car was already warmed up. the car seemed like it was bogging down right before the CEL went on. once the CEL was on i havnt really felt a difference in drivablility. Should i remove the front pipe to resolve issue? should i take to the dealer to reflash ecu?
Just wondering what you guys would do |
For $15 you could have bought a Bluetooth OBD 2 reader and the Torque app for android. You can read and clear codes with that. It's a cheap investment for an invaluable tool that will save you time and money. Seriously. This should be a mandatory thing for anyone modifying their car.

holy sh*t, i didnt think of something like that. PROtip for sure. +1
any recommended applications from your experience? |
If you have an Android decice, Torque Pro is the best app out. For the OBD reader, almost any ELM327 bluetooth will work. ELM327 can be found on ebay for $7.99 and Torque Pro will run you $4.99.

And don't go to the dealer. They might not care about it but you also may be given a hard time.

You can also go to autozone and read the code. Did you disconnect the battery after the install?
|
Autozone no longer reads codes as per new California law. Shitty, but true.

yea im totaly going to avoid the dealer as much as possible. they have already messed up a simple oil change already. im not gonna trust them with much else.
i appreciate the new found knowledge of the tools you have provided, thank you. hopefully ill get this diagnosed asap! |
i disconnect my battery after the install. i re-connected the battery and left her running for about 5 min. i had no issues for a week. then randomly.. cel. once i saw cel, i disconnected the battery and tried that method again... still cel. so looks like i got some research to do with this app and bluetooth device.

n00b question. do you have to remove the ecu to plug in the bluetooth device? or is the port accessible?
|
No, you can access the OBD port on the right hand side of the driver footwell

You may need an o2 spacer on your secondary o2 sensor. Pull the code first though. Great tips from ProTekk :)

finally got the ODB 2 reader. So the CEL error i was receiving was P0128 (powertrain coolant bellow temperature spec.
I had the car idle for about 10 minutes and received a temperature of 167 degree. I started to drive around and the temperature climbed to around 187. The max temperature i received tonight after 20 minutes of driving was 192.2. My coolant level is normal. Do you think i should clear the CEL with the application or have the dealer check it out? Im almost leaning towards the dealer on this one. |
clear it

CE; DEALS SAYS IDK. P0134,P0030,P0031
FIRST OF THANK YOU Long story short. I have a tune from ecutek stage 1 by perrin and a catback exhaust.
Incident record. -catback- installed 2 month ago before CEL -ecutek flash 1 month ago before CEL I took to the dealer and told them everything i did to my car since i didnt really care about their warranty and it's the only place i can trust during my undergrad career. I was told by the lead tech O2 sensors(rear) was not sending or receiving signal. I tried flashing back to stock, clear codes and flash to stage 1 clear. but none of them works. I was ensured by tech at subaru that its very rare that O2 sensors. I was told by dealers not to buy a new sensor but instead go to perrin and ask for a new set of map I bought. clearly that didnt do anything since Perrin folks never have to tamper with that part. My questions is , is it possible that I have a broken O2 sensor in the rear? since catback installation did not require touching them. How would that be broken during installation. and after the dealer cleared my code instead of havin P0030 and P0134, I have P0031. is it possible that my tuning is just messed up? I looked up all the codes and they seem pretty similar to each other. all related to the heat circuit O2  THANK YOU GUYS |
I believe my issue was a faulty O2 sensor. I ended up not clearing the code. About 3 days after using the torque application, the CEL went away. I did end up taking it to the dealer. Dealer said even though i had the exact error code, they could not diagnose the CEL without it being on. kind of a waste of time.. but the CEL has not come back on since.
