When do we get complimentary oil changes/maintenance?
I thought it was at 7,500 miles, 15,000 miles, etc. According to the webpage for my local scion dealership, the 7,500 miles maintenance is $74.79.
My car is probably around 4,000 miles, but is at the 7 month mark and I feel it's time to get an oil change. Am I due for a complimentary one from scion or do I need to pay for it? |
I paid for my first oil change which was well before 7,500 miles. At 7,500 miles they gave me a free one and will give me another free one at 15,000 miles.

The Scion boost/Toyota Care plan is for the first 3 services on the FRS.
7500: Oil, rotate, inspection 15000: Oil, rotate, cabin filter?, inspection 22500:Oil, rotate, inspection I haven't had to write one up for service for a 15k yet and I cant find my binder w all of the info, so I'm not 100% sure we replace the cabin filter. |

I went in at 6800 and they would NOT do the 7500 mile service yet. It is 7500 miles or 7 1/2 months, whichever come first.
Sent from a galaxy far, far away. |
I got my free oil changed at 6 month with about 4.5k miles on it. They give me the option to wait for 7.5k or do it then since it been 6 month.

I don't know if it applies here too but I have a Toyota that I've been bringing in for completely free service/maintenance under Toyota Care, which is two years or 25k miles (in intervals of 5k), whichever is first. I've gotten two free oil changes this way. Does this not apply to Scions?

But yeah you dont need to worry about an oil change which is at 7500 for free and 1500 too. |
That's odd. The sticker on my windshield wants me to go in at 5,000 miles. I'm not sure if that's including an oil change as part of the complimentary service, but I'm getting one done then.

The FRS is just on a weird interval system as compared to everything else. It was a PITA when I first saw them rolling through into the service drive and making sure customers weren't told the wrong information (5k service, 6 months, you know). |
Don't all new Scion's come with Toyota Care for 2 years for free?
ToyotaCare Scheduled Factory Maintenance Covers: 9 Inspect and adjust all fluid levels Replace engine oil and oil filter 10 Rotate tires Multi-point vehicle inspection I brought mine in to the local dealership because the shifting felt funky. I asked if they could also do an oil change since I have always changed the first 2500 miles of oil on a new car. They did all that for free |
I'm going in today for my first complimentary service. I live a mile and a half from work and have less than 4k miles. But I've had my car since February, so the service is complimentary from a time stand point (7 1/2 mo).
|
I requested to get my oil changed at 1,000 to clear out engine particles. They used that as my first under the Toyota Care plan, and I just had my second done at 8,000. You shouldn't have to pay anything for your first 5 changes as long as you are following the recommend manufacturer's maintenance.
|
Under ToyotaCare, there are only 3 oil changes covered for the FRS. Only the conventional oil vehicles (plus a few trucks that ran 0w20) get 5 free oil changes. For instance, a Prius gets 5 services, but 2 oil changes.
|
I got my first one at 1,000 miles, my second at 6,000 miles, and about to get my third next week at 13,000 miles. It will count towards my 15,000 one.
|
I tried to go in at 5k they made me wait til 7.5k but they let me slide at 7.4k..lol

I know that on subaru's website I can log my own service. Dont pay that much for an oil change DIY and log it.
|
I just got an email from my dealer about the recommended 5k mile service? I'm actually just over 3,000 miles.
|
Those are typically pre-generated based on driving habits of the typical driver. There is no special script for the FRS in at least our dealers system. Those mailers confuse the hell out of people who do not drive much (the elderly)

I always get the first oil change done around 2k-2.5k miles to get the engine particles out. I went to the dealership today and they told me they don't recommend it because Toyota "break-in" oil is different. And they said to wait until 7.5k miles. I'm thinking BS? Anyone ever heard of this?
|
I took mine in yesterday at just under 4k miles since it was more than 7.5 months. No hassle, no question, free of charge.

Modern engines are very tight from the factory. Break them in gently for 1,000 miles then drive the wheels off it for another 5,000 miles or no more than six months from purchase. After initial break in you should be driving at full throttle whenever possible and reaching red line as often as possible, preferably both at the same time. That will seat the rings and make sure there are no no-wear ridges in the bores. Just don't load up the engine before 1,000 miles. |

I had mine done at 3000 miles for free

I remember when I was getting the car handed over to me, the detail guy said the scion boost coverage for oil change and tire rotation should be used at 7500 miles or 7.5 months (whichever came first) and so on...
