*PICS* Seibon FA carbon hood installed

easy install.
some fitment issues. the right side has about 1mm more gap than the left. and the hood slopes down more than the fender/headlight.
came with a chip in the clear coat in the hoodscoop.

how much did you paid for it?

vinh 08-30-2013 02:08 PM

i forget. but i got one of those deals in the vendor part of the forums. best price i could find. but around $700

MightyMeeple 08-30-2013 02:12 PM

Despite the issues, I think it looks great. Would be even better if painted to match, and left the trim around the scoop to show carbon fiber. I assume there really isn't a whole lot of weight savings from stock hood?

vinh 08-30-2013 02:16 PM

Its about the same weight. There are other threads where people weighed them and the new hood is 2 lbs lighter. AFAIK, Seibon hoods are just for cosmetic as they have a fiberglass core.

Clipdat 08-30-2013 02:21 PM

I keep waiting for someone to get this hood and then rock a TMIC to take advantage of the air inlet.

Until you fork out like 2 grand for a dry carbon variant from them; then you might shave more than 5lbs.

Cjymiller 08-30-2013 05:57 PM

Looks good!

Does weather concern you with the vents? I would assume it's not a good thing to have water drizzling into your engine bay.

Is there something I'm missing here?

vinh 08-30-2013 06:08 PM

rain doesnt concern me. water is supposed to get in anyway.

Steve201brz 09-04-2013 04:14 PM

just saw this, waiting for mine actually. never seen it installed and this reassures me i made a good choice. the dry carbon is like 2k. unless your a serious racer real carbon fiber is useless, imho

more than 5lbs? Is the stock hood not 8?

Dunno; I've never weighed it. The cheapo "wet-carbon" hoods feel like the same weight though. "5lbs" was just hyperbole.

Are there alternatives to Seibon as a company? Just curious. A healthy market often has many competitors.

Frostyman 09-04-2013 09:02 PM

the only other CF hood I have seen was from a company called first molding, and I wasn't impressed with the design.

Could you share the info on your front clip? Best looking front end I have seen yet with real aero benefits molded into the design.

VIS racing has two designs, OEM style and a vented design similar to Seibon's TS design.

Carbon Creations runs one(?) design for the FR-S.

Pricing doesn't really compare to Seibon and I don't see there being any benefit to going with the other companies unless you prefer their designs. It's not like you're going to save any discernible amount of weight.

i have the full INGS+1 Kit that bumper is from that you can also just buy the bumper seperate if youd like its my favorite hands down I am a big fan of the early 90s look and design

Love how this looks, especially offsetting the white.
Does the hood scoop not function to help cool the internals, are you saying it actually slows down your car?

Also did you paint it black or is that the factory carbon fiber? Is water an issue or did you end up getting rain guards?

:iono:

Not a fan of the wrx style hood scoop on our cars. I like the vents though.

And I highly recommend getting hood pins for these cf hoods. Over the past 15yrs since cf parts became popular, I've seen way too many break off from the hood latches and fly up to smash the windshield and roof.

Extreme Dimensions 03-26-2015 12:56 PM

We have two carbon creations vented hood options for the fr-s/brz! please find below and if interested we can get you a great deal!
