Borla Headers Update
Are people still having problems with the borla headers in terms of qc? Any independent dyno plots?
|
Also interested in this. Was planning on going revworks seeing the price point is the same.
|
Have had mine in for a month already. Working perfectly.
|
4 months now and not a single issue. Got rid of the torque dip and sounds awesome.
Added new Subaru gaskets when fitted Borla to be safe, however the flanges were perfect. CEL came on after a month so fitted spacer and no more CEL. |
I LOVE mine!! I have dyno's in my build thread..no TQ dip here :)
I also have a brand new Borla UEL listed for sale if anyone is interested. Awesome product! |

sounds like he has 2 headers.

Really is the best UEL on the market for the $$!! |

Borla has no issues with the new units and as always stands behind them with their lifetime warranty. One reason why we stock them and run one on our own car. :)
|
FT 86 speed factory sold me my header and they were awesome as well as Borla. I had a warped flange on my first header and Borla swapped it out with no issues at all. The header truly is the best mod for fixing the TQ dip and FT86 Speedfactory is the place to get it!!
|
Looking at this for my next purchase !! What else would I need to have to eliminate torque dip ? Tune ?? I have read a few other posts and this a DD for me so , I guess to get it tuned what would I need to do ? Do I have to take it to a shop ?? Or is it done with the ecutek cable and such ??

Ok, so I ordered the Borla UEL Header, a Perrin overpipe and a 3" Perrin Front Pipe. I already have the Perrin "Big" 3" Cat-Back on my car.
I know I should really have software with the headers, but I'm hoping I can limp along for a month on stock software with all of this installed, and perhaps just an o2 sensor spacer... |
O2 spacer is a must and you good to go for long time.
|
Subscribed. I'm still looking to see what the consensus is for weld quality. I am sure its much better than the knockoff headers I have had on previous cars, but I'm still worried.

Sold and installed about 20 at this point without issues!
|
Worked with Borla to either get replacements sent out or refunds in the beginning.
Now I haven't heard of an issue in a while. Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk 4 |
Is the collector still as bad as the one pic that is floating around? Anyone have recent pics of the collector?
|
I installed my Borla UEL about 3 weeks ago and I'm very satisfied with it. The flanges were machined perfectly flat after welding and although the collector flange was slightly convex, it doesn't matter because it flattens out when tightened to the over-pipe. As for the welds, I've seen prettier but I see no reason why the Borla welds and surrounding metal shouldn't last the car's lifetime.
In summary, not the best FA20 header, not the worst. Good value at $600. http://imageshack.us/a/img96/7584/l6dg.jpg |
That's the picture that should follow every one if that mangled collector pic. I was really hoping that the quality wasn't as bad as that one instance (or the first run I guess). Looks good. I'm sold unless there is another UEL that is close in price.
Anything within +$100 that is worth looking at? |

At that price I was EXTREMELY tempted to go with the AP headers, but there are so many horror stories on here... Its tricky because I had the AP Racing headers on my Supercharged E46 M3 and they were fantastic. Its the header that most people buy for those cars, and everyone only talks about positive experiences with them. Yet you come on this board, and they're regarded as garbage. I'm hopefully not regretting this decision in 2months wishing I had spent more on the FA20club headers. |
I looked around, but I can't find them. How do I contact defined to see if that deal would be extended to me also?
|
Taber, thanks for he recommendation. I called Jordan and ordered the Borla header! I'm excited to put a dent in this torque dip, and I'll post pics of the header when it arrives. Sorry to jack the thread, but thanks for the help guys!

What torque dip?
http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/7552/qo4b.png Run001 was stock except Borla UEL, Tsudo catted front pipe and K&N drop-in Run004 was after tuning (Visconti & Pure Automotive Performance) My FRS is AT with 4k miles on it. Base stock hp is assumed to be ~150 with the usual -20lb tq dip. |

We run in Kilowats in South Africa, but you get the idea from the graph. Here is a dyno run with Borla header and AFE DIF. NO Tune. |
I have dyno's posted in my build thread (link in sig) and the TQ dip is gone. I have baseline, 93, and E85 posted.

Here is the comparison from header NO Tune vs Header with Tune.
Header makes great gains, but with tune gets rid of Torque dip completely. |

Is it because you guys are in South Africa that your attachments show upside down in the northern hemisphere? |

Based on both our graphs with header and Visconti tune, it appears we are parity much showing similar torque gains. Issue I have with Visconti tune is the gains from the tune vs stock with header are negligible. Would like to see FA20club stage 2 dyno of header stock vs header tune to see the difference in gains. @chadstyle just reviewed your dyno charts with Borla,93 Oct and FA20club tune, can see significant better gain differences between your tune and @Fast Freddy and mine with Visconti tune. |

Here are my gains from baseline to 93 to E85. All tuning was done by FA20Club. I traced over the lines in Photoshop so they are more visible as I have 3 runs in one graph but you can see it side by side with the original in my build thread and see that the lines are 100% identical...don't want to be accused of altering results in any way.

Good to know the headers are a serious hp and torque improvement.
