Replacing the Scion FR-S seats

How many of you are planning on replacing the Scion FR-S seats. From the photos I've seen so far I think I'd like to replace them with BRZ limited front seats....no idea how much that will cost....or if I'd be better off just getting the seats reupholstered..... Any thoughts?

KyShro 03-18-2012 02:47 AM

TRD for me

Bristecom 03-18-2012 03:03 AM

I definitely want the leather/Alcantara seats. Or if they come out with an all leather version later, I may go with that. I love the look, feel, and durability of leather. Suede/Alcantara grips well and feels alright but is harder to clean. Cloth does not give me a good feeling, is harder to clean, and it makes the interior look cheaper IMO. Hopefully these will be an option of some sort for the Scion. If not, I will have to look into having them replaced which may be a pain and expensive.

do not care

cloth seats till they are worn then throwing in some brides or get stock steats redone in leather maybe?

why dont you just buy a brz?

st162celica 03-18-2012 06:43 AM

Just be happy that the scion will be cheap compared to the 86 everywhere else. They have to save some money somehow since the frs will prob be half the price of the 86 everywhere else.

Use and abuse the seats then slap on some leather or Sell the seats brand new and put some leather seats in.

Saibot 03-18-2012 05:13 PM

why not just wait for clazzios to come out with seat covers...

How many times does it have to be said: the price of this car elsewhere has no goddamn bearing on the price of the car here.

How 'bout you guys sit in the seats first before deciding to rip them out. If your only problem is cloth...then I'm not sure what to tell you.

WingsofWar 03-18-2012 05:22 PM

For you FRS owners, i am seriously doubting you many of you guys will swap other Zx6 OEM seats into your FRS. The seats are likely to make you happy regardless of the materials used.

For those replacing seats, its more likely for many of you to be going racing seats (ie; Bride, Recaro, Sparco, etc..), which might be more worth your money. Especially since the seating position is already low from the factory, im sure there are better options.

Like what was said earlier..sit in the seat first and experience the car before making claims and modifications based on visual displeasure.

NERO 03-18-2012 05:41 PM

I'm just going to have them redone in leather with customer stitching and colors to make it pop.

SUB-FT86 03-18-2012 06:20 PM

I actually sat in the Limited and the alcantara/leather is great. I agree with the poster above who said just buy the BRZ. Most of the things the limited have I want and I don't want to buy a ton of stuff aftermarket.

I must be the old ball here. I personally hate leather seats. Too cold in the winter, too hot in the summer. Plus they're a pain in the ass to maintain.

You're not alone. I have always preferred quality cloth seats over leather.

GodSays 03-18-2012 08:39 PM

Yeah buying brz seats kinda seems like such a waste when you have a perfectly good set to just reupholster. Ill be gettin TRD seats tho :)

tjoy 03-18-2012 09:14 PM

Actually, there is a good reason to replace the seats.

Ventilation.

Recaro sells ventilated seats (cloth or leather). I was thinking about going with Recaro Style Topline just to keep the boys cool during the summer.

This feature needs to become more standard on non-luxury cars. I'm not sure if there is a ventilated seat from existing auto I should try to get from a junkyard vs buying the Recaro though.

I plan to drive down to central america and have mine reupholstered in blue peccary leather stitched with custom alpaca thread to match my driving gloves because I'm a cool kid like that.

The coolest.

i'll think about it when it comes down to replacing them: a few years down the road... i have to worry about mods i want to do months after getting the car...

Word. Exactly what I would end up doing which means I would need to wait 7-10yrs before I would get some Brides/Recaros.

I'm with you as well.

r4m3n 03-18-2012 10:16 PM

i actually was pretty impressed with the cloth seats on the FR-S when I sat in the car. It has a nice soft feel to it and is very comfortable.

tjoy 03-18-2012 11:42 PM

After riding 13 hours in a Lincoln with the ventilated seats keeping me cool and dri down there, they've become a deal maker for me.

Luckily, a set of the Recaro cost about 1400. Not that bad.

jedichimp 03-19-2012 02:24 PM

x2 on the Clazzio option, look really nice >$500 for leather and other options less expensive

koyv90 10-20-2012 10:10 PM

i like the flat black look of the brz seats so eventually i would swap them

Texas BRZ 10-20-2012 10:15 PM

Completely happy with the standard FR-S seats, I am.

Supermassive 10-20-2012 11:11 PM

At first I liked the seats that came in my FR-S, but seeing as how I am 6'4" tall I find that there is no way to comfortably adjust the seat so that i can wear a helmet in the car. So I thought about just getting some ultra low seat rails, but i doubt the stock seat will be able to be mounted to them. So I am looking at aftermarket seats, i am also looking for a bit of lumbar support since i seem to get a decent back ache when doing any extended driving.

I'm leaning toward these tbh. Sparco Milano Prestige

I really like the standard FR-S seats. I have no complaints.

whaap 10-21-2012 01:31 AM

When my stock seats begin to look a little tired I'll upgrade with Katzkins. They make beautiful leather covers any way you want them and their quality is great. The only down fall for their seat covers is sloppy installment work. Done right they're great and a lot cheaper than buying seats for a BRZ limited.

i agree! a quality cloth seat will wear like iron, and require much less maintenance over the long term! also,as stated,in a cold climate, they are definitely much less comfortable, hence the "heated seats"

Timtamtt 11-08-2012 10:10 PM

Brides!! I wonder if there is a airbag in the seat, because then if i get brides my srs light will be on and that wouldn't be kosher

TuxedoCartman 11-08-2012 10:51 PM

Bride sells an airbag disabler for their seats. Basically a resistor you plug into the stock seat airbag wiring, that tricks the car into thinking the airbags are present. TRD seats come with the same thing.

And speaking of, my Stradia II seat and TRD rails should be here in about a week! I'm so excited, I'm freakin' out!!! :happyanim:

MmmHamSandwich 11-08-2012 10:53 PM

Stock for me. I like airbags.

Silverdub 11-08-2012 11:01 PM

i am so happy with the stockers!!

tripjammer 11-09-2012 10:26 AM

Airbags are on the seats? How do the katskins seat covers work with the airbags?

Turbowned 11-09-2012 10:55 AM

The FR-S/BRZ seats are one of few OEM seats I would not want to change out. If you're not satisfied with the FR-S's material, you'd be much better off just getting a BRZ Premium. The $1,100 difference is probably less than you'd pay to change the seats in the FR-S, and you pick up HID's and navigation. Win!

Probably the same way a lot of seat covers work with them: specially stitched panels that allow deployment of side airbags. I haven't checked Katskins specifically, but I know that's how a lot of Japanese brands work (including the SARD seat covers).
