Finally sat in a BRZ today

WOW:happyanim:

The interior was so nice, metal touches, soft touch everywhere. It felt SO upmarket for its price point. And seemed bigger then I thought it would be.

And the back seats are more comfy then they look lol

Just sharing my joy!!! Hope everyone can experience this soon

switchlanez 03-11-2012 01:30 AM

Yep, I sat in one too at a nearby dealer in Kansas. Everything feels substantial when gripped in your hand and the aggressive bolstering and high wall-like door sills wrap you in the c0ckpit... it feels like a serious sports car. Better interior than other sports cars I've had with similar or higher price point (MR2 Spyder and G35).

OrbitalEllipses 03-11-2012 01:33 AM

G35

Shitty plastic with leather to distract you.

iLuveKetchup 03-11-2012 01:43 AM

How are the bolsters compared to Evo X Recaros? Any photos of the interior?

hanabie 03-11-2012 01:47 AM

now i feel i wanna get limited =/

Why? Wouldn't the Premium have the same feel: "metal touches", "soft touch everywhere", and "substantial" feel?

It doesn't have the leather on the door panel or the leather/alcantara seats.

i remember seeing the interior of the BRZ, i was also impressed.
It DEFINITELY is much better than G35.
However, the silver trim is the thing i don't like the most.

and the seats look awesome, even though i preferred flush headrest and not angled...i probably will not switch the seat out

Yea the interiors should be the same except for the seat...well with the options at least. The stainless steel door sill is one of the options that the demo cars seem to all have.

I'd like to see a picture of an "R" spec, I wonder how much the lack of leather on the steering wheel and shift knob hurt the feel of quality.

It looks like in this video that the Premium still has the leather on the door panel.

I don't think this car has metal touches. It is just painted silver plastics I bet and the interior doesn't look like it's that upmarket. It looks like a 20k+ interior to me.

As an ex-X owner, I don't think anything will compare to the bolstering in the X's seats. Even my Boss' Recaros are wider with less pronounced bolstering for the average American's posterior.

You are probably right. The Evo X seats are great (for OEM). The driving position & line of sight is horrible in the Evo X. As expected, as it's not a sportscar. The BRZ's seating position looks proper and steering wheel's telescopic adjustment is much welcomed. I can't wait to sit in the BRZ (and get rid of the Evo X)!

I miss my X a lot and one of the main reasons is because of the seats. If the BRZ pricing comes in too high, i'll contemplate another X.

I'm glad to know that both of those are true because they were my concerns with the interior

Good call, there werent really any bits of metal around the interior. I only had a chance to experience the limited. From just sitting in the interior it did great, well within its price catagory. Im curious to see how it holds up while in use; rattles, wear and tear, and general aging. Driving experience > Interior experience, but so far that interior leaves me desiring the real point of the car: driving the piss out of it. :burnrubber:

The seating position is more notable than the seats themselves (extremely similar to STI seats). Think of lowering into a s2k or Z rather than moving in a 'larger' evoX or GH STI.

Monkey_Boy 03-11-2012 02:53 PM

The Alacantra is nice in the Limited. They have a "sueded" center part that is "grippy" with soft "non-suede" leather bolsters. That continues to the door trim, which gives it a nice tactile quality. I thought the red stiching would be obnoxious, but it's not bad. More understated than I expected. The silvered plastics are just ok, and not too obtrusive. The seating position is much lower than an STi, and visibility is better than I thought it would be. With the seats down, the back feels cavernous--I did not expect that.

I've been driving an MR-2 Spyder and kind of preparing for the BRZ; the BRZ is much more practical and roomy. I think BRZ'll make a good daily driver right up to the point where I need to get 10 bags of mulch home from Lowes. Then I will miss my Legacy estate. :)

Whoa! I hope you mean the material is the same as the STi seats?? Not the support or bolster.

The STi seats are the worst seats on a "performance" oriented car. No support. The bolsters are flat like a couch.

Maybe he's talking about older STI. I agree on current generation STI seats having little support. Alcantara ones will at least grip a bit, but still inadequate for a performance car.

BattleArmor 03-11-2012 05:59 PM

The seats were not as good as an EVO, but the bolsters were really nice, and supported you up to the shoulders as well, which a lot of cars lack....

And for other responses: It was not metal inside, but not just painted plastic, it felt substantially better then painted plastic like in my Accord

serialk11r 03-11-2012 06:19 PM

Whoa, in the video, notice that the camera moves up and down, when the guy is presumably standing straight up, the car looks very short and small. Me likes.

What does that have to do with anything?

Slightly off topic (its the forum norm anyways... >_>), but have you sat in both Premium/Limited? How do the buttons feel on the HVAC/Steering wheel stalk controls? Anything seem flimsy? How about the rear view mirror? Its not the suppose "thin" mirror, right?

And last but not least, how was the visibility for forward/rearview?

I sat in a limited BRZ, but I also sat in a FRS. Assuming the HVAC controls for the FRS are the same as the Premium BRZ, they don't feel too great, but they aren't horrible, not flimsy, but solid feeling. Just not particularly upmarket. The stalks on the steering wheel had a nice little resistance to it, it felt good. Not like in the rental Corolla I drove, where if you looked at it funny, you had your blinker on

However the Limited Model HVAC was really nice. Interestingly enough, the switches for your climate control only push down, I thought they would go down and up :iono: still really a great interior

The rear view mirror, the plastic around it is thin, its not anything revolutionary or to brag about, but it is pretty thin

Visibility was actually VERY surprising, for how small the car was, I did NOT feel claustrophobic with the door closed and windows up. For the size of the car, I was very impressed. And even the the "rear" side windows for people in the back is tiny, the rear windshield stretches far out front, over your head, so even back there was not too bad.

I am 5'5" and I fit in the back, I just wouldn't want to be back there very long, my shoes were just under the seat in front of me...

And the shifter was really really sweet feeling, goes for the clutch too, they felt great, and positioning for pedals, wheel, and shifter is spot on (I know you didn't ask but still lol)

The part about the camera changing elevation was just to suggest that at its highest, it was probably about eye level height, at which the BRZ looked very very short.

Want.FR-S 03-11-2012 07:47 PM

^^^ I think the guy filimg this actually move up and down of his arm to film the car. At some point he was raising his arm above other people's head to film it.

That said, this car is indeed low. 50 inches is not so tall so rest assure everybody on the road will be looking down on you...

Willing to bet it's a pre-production thing. If not, cool!

jcutner 03-11-2012 11:14 PM

I'm really anxious to sit in one and see how it feels.

I'm hoping it feels more like a Miata, than say a Genesis.
I drove my friend's Genesis recently, and when I sat in it, I felt like I sort of "sank" into the car, it felt just too big almost.

I sat in a Miata (current gen) at the Canadian Autoshow and it fit me perfect, just hugged me.

If the FR-S/BRZ is more like the latter than the former, I think that will be just an amazing driver's car.

You will be pleasantly surprised. While the width is pretty similar; 74.4" vs 69.9", the seating position and bolsters are much more agressive. Personally, I like the GC interior but the BRZ has a much more "snug" feel to it.

Turbowned 03-12-2012 11:52 AM

For those (like myself) who aren't too keen on the silver "metallic" trim, Subaru Japan has a carbon fiber overlay which I hope will be offered for the LHD cars:

Negative. Will not be offered on USDM BRZ.

Arthur 03-12-2012 12:12 PM

I'm sure this carbon look trim is what comes stock in the FRS. Meaning you should be able to order the LHD part from Scion and clip it into your BRZ.

The GD seats were even worse imo. These seats look a lot more bolstered than either of them.

You could remove the silver pieces and take them to a vinyl shop and have them wrapped in the 3M carbon fiber look vinyl. It's pretty good looking.

I may just paint mine black like I did in my STI.

Sure you can do whatever you want, but Subaru will not be offering that on the USDM BRZ. At least not for this model year. Maybe in the future.

For the upper 20K range that silver painted trim should have been brushed aluminum or even carbon fiber. We are not talking much....

But its hard plastic. I wonder how durable it will be?

I'd say it's between the two in terms of fit. The BRZ doesn't have a cocoon feeling like the Miata or S2000, but you're not swimming hopelessly in it like a Gen Coupe.

Also, IMO, the seats feel remarkably similar to the Evo IX seats. Good support, not as tight in the back as the Evo X seats, but still have great lumbar and lateral support. That said, the headrest does come forward and disallow any rearward head motion. I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable wearing a helmet with the seat as-is, as the headrest would push my head forward.

Dave-ROR 03-12-2012 05:03 PM

I'll find out in advance when the rep's car will be at my dealership and I'll bring my helmet to test it out :)
