Rubber dash coming up
So my rubber dash where the front center vents are.. above it is coming up where the vents meet the rubber dash... idk if its cus i live in texas and its like 120+ degrees inn the car or what..?
Im thinking of taking it in and getting fixed but i was wondering if anyone had this problem? |
Never heard of anyone having this kind of issue. Pics?
|
When I felt the dash and discovered it wasn't hard plastic, I ordered a dash cover. I was wondering if it was a waste of money, but maybe not. It definitely cut down the reflection of the dash in the windshield. Hope you get your dash sorted out soon.

In for pics.

My FR-S live in 110+ heat all day in Arizona and I have never had this problem. I do have a custom dash-mat and use my heat shield sun visor as much as possible. I'm sure it's nothing to major, you should look into some ways to cover it up if it's in direct sunlight.
|
I noticed this too. But sit in the passenger seat and take a look as well at the opposite side you are sitting. They will most likely match. I thought mine was coming off over the right center vent but the left center is the same. Optical illusion in my opinion. I know exactly what you are talking about though.
|
from the drivers side that had me curious. ( I AM NOT THE OP, just my observations too. )
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...psa3229eba.jpg Then the passenger side. Not much difference. I honestly believe I did not really notice until I had the car for a few months. It was still winter in Nebraska so heat was the least of my worries. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps43c66364.jpg When you look head on, it is even across the vents. Pure optical illusion. |
here are the sad pics

My take on dash mats. I always use as the lack of windscreen reflection (especially with black mats) is great. You do not appreciate the difference until you try it. Put any black dull fabric on a bit of dash with the sun shining in the 'screen and see the "black hole" area not-reflecting in the glass.
I also skin the underside with aluminium foil to insulate. I can tell you that when I removed such a mat from a seventeen year old car which I have has since new, the dash was in MINT condition. I was actually surprised myself. That car has seen plenty of time out in sunny Australian days. The foil idea has backfired somewhat with the GPS in the new car by a shielding effect. I have had to reposition the antenna and remove an area of foil. |
Has anyone else noticed this? I noticed it on my way into work this morning, though it looks more like the picture Khazzy posted than the one J-Money put up. When I push down on the right side, the left side pops up higher (and vice-versa). When I let go, I hear a "stick" sound, like glue letting go. Damn, J-Money, now you got me paranoid...I can't take my eyes off it.
|
You can feel the stick. No reason it cannot be fixed at the dealer.
|
A mirrored shade should lower the surface temp radically. Suggest you not get it "fixed" until it has cooled off. It will probably fit fine when it cools.

Mine is exactly as roddy says. Mine was baking at the dealer in 100+ degree sun in socal, should we bring this to the dealer?
|
The sun does so much damage than what meets the eye. Sun shade, window visors, and tint is one of the first things I did to the car to keep the interior from drying and fading. I learned my lesson with my first car (1989 nissan 240sx). Perfect dash with no cracks. Started to not put the sunshade up after awhile and within a year, had spider cracks forming all over it.
|
If I owned it for longer than 3weeks/500 miles I would expect it eventually, but this soon has to be manufacturer error. I thought it seemed a bit odd and asymmetric, but now it seems more common. Mine is 2013.
|
For those with this issue, what's your vin #? I live in Michigan so we don't exactly have the hottest summers (though it was been 90+ for the past couple days) and notice my dash doing this as well.
|
i'm not having this problem with mine. it only has a little under 3k miles though, i've owned it since april. i'm from florida, but the car also came from the dealer with 35% tint, not sure if that helps.
|
in the 90s here.. that sun is brutal.. takes like 15 seconds to open my spring loaded fold away shade and lay it on the dash covering the speakers and the steering wheel too. have done this thru the years with all my cars.. never had a faded or cracked dash even in Texas for 19 years.. easy solution..

I noticed mine doing this this morning...gonna talk to them about it when I go in for a replacement taillight.
|
Just noticed my dash doing that today...it's been high 90's for the past few days. The rubber is like bubbling up but it settles once the car cools down with the a/c on.
Time to invest in a dash mat I guess. |

It doesn't really matter what part of the country you're in. It gets hot as hell in the car, even with the windows cracked. I have tint on the back (where I can legally) and a reflective windshield visor up front. It keeps the car noticeably cooler and keeps the horrible sun off my dash. I think the windshield has some kind of UV coating, doesn't it? |
Another Texan here and mine is in its second summer. I do have max tinted windows since last June, no separation on mine.

Anyone have an update on this? Mine is getting pretty bad as well. Brought it to the dealer today and luckily one of the Canadian Subaru QA reps happened to be there. He took a look at it and will discuss with Subaru Japan as to what they can do (if nothing, they will replace my dash...something I really don't want them doing).
|
What have ya'll been cleaning/dressing your dash's with?
|
I've had my car since June 2012 and tinted the windows soon after and I'm having this same issue.
|
mine has the same problem the passenger side if coming off. When you pull the vent you can see that it is pulling up. I took mine and them take a look and the told me that the car out in the show room looks the same and that they have written it down and if a TSB comes up with it then they will fix the problem.
-It is all bullshit bec if you look at it you can tell that it is not just a wave it is really coming up. They just didn't want to change my dash out. |
Bought the car in March and 6 months later now the dash is still ok.
Summer is really hot and I have seen temp going between 40-50C here (110+ F). The dealer gave me windshield shade (crappy one with their name, not the TRD). I am too lazy to stand it up and put the visor down (don't want to make them loose). So I just put it on top of the dash, but I think it might be better this way as it is covering the whole dash and wheel. |
12/12 build, summer is ending and it's noticeable but only if I point it out to people. You can squish it around a bit to minimize the lift but it'll usually just pop up on the other side. Disconcerting when it comes to fit and finish considering how bulletproof my other dash boards are.
I probably won't do anything about it unless something pops up here. Edit: I've wiped it with simple green or a damp cloth, nothing else. |

It looks like mine is just starting to do this. :/
|
Sounds like an issue, I wonder if any applications (303) have mitigated the defect?
|
Same here, having the dash replaced. Will be buying a dash cover to hopefully soak up the heat. Down the road ill be keeping an eye out for an after market hard plastic dash... the new tc dashboard feels very robust... wish they chose it for the FR-S.
