Should I complain to Toyota?
Got back from the dealership and I wanted to get you guys opinion on this. Here is the story went in today to get the FR-S, told him about the trade in they appraised it he gave me a really low number, I told him forget it I will just not trade it in since we were so far off (3k off). Told him I'm graduating soon and my transcript date would not reflect the actual date until I filed a graduation form and it would take 3-4 weeks for it to show up on my transcript. He says no problem just talk to this guy can't remember his title he told me Toyota would not honor it because they would call the school to verify. I had my whole transcript printed out to show all the classes I was taking for fall and I would meet the graduation requirements. He keeps pressuring me about signing off and I was like I'm just gonna go shop around because this was the first dealer I went to. He slams his hand on the desk and walks off. Comes back and tells me we can leave, I ask him for the offer sheet he made me sign and my transcript along with utility bill and he tells me NOPE your not getting it. He walks us to the door and my dad sees a car he likes a scion iq or something and asks him how much it cost then the guy says don't worry about its too expensive for you. I was like WTFFF (my dad didn't even notice how his attitude had changed he was just asking the price).
Is this cause for concern? I don't want him fired but I need to inform the manager of the dealership, right? |
tl;dr
Dealer tells my dad we shouldn't worry about a car because it is "too expensive for us" |
Wow what a douche. He obviously didn't care about you guys, why should you care about him. He wanted to be in the customer service field, if he can't provide that then he should be terminated. IMO
|
I would complain for sure. I would talk to the sales manager/owner dealerships are there to provide a service not to pressure you and belittle you and your family. Now about buying it there that is up to you either ask for a new sales man or go somewhere else. My sales guy didn't ever want to return any calls so I called and asked for someone else and he was awesome. Take your time don't just buy cause they slam there hands down and say sign. I walked out after the dealers 1st offer the APR was way too high. They came back with a better rate it's all in how you handle yourself don't look desperate LOL. But good luck in your search. Hope it works out for you.

F*CK that noise! I would defiantly call that place and ask to speak with a manger/owner. Because that sales guy who acted like that... would be fired. They have cameras all over that showroom so you can tell them to pull up the video and see.
Read the fine print on Scion's website about the College Rebate (assuming thats what you were asking about) It states you have to be a college grad or will be soon. Just have to prove you are. I am sure you have 90 days or something to send in final transcripts or they will "dis-honor" the rebate. What was the guys name? We should play pranks on him. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...legerebate.png |
Complain. If he gets fired, good. People are still hurting for jobs these days. His ass getting canned means a job opportunity for somebody else who needs it and would appreciate it.
|
I was thinking the same. I would love a discount but there is no way I would walk back there after this incident.

I would call the sales manager. Don't get too huffy, just say you feel like you were mistreated and thought he should know. If he doesn't kiss your ass, call the general manager.
Sales side of a dealership is pretty much a revolving door for douche bags. Even the good guys generally don't last at a place for more than a few years. I've got 8 yrs on the service side of a VW dealership and there is just 1 salesman that has been there the whole time. Avg. tenure in the shop is like 10+ yrs and we got a couple of guys with 30 yrs. Calling Toyota would be a bit drastic at this point as there is a chain of command you should first follow. Don't be afraid to complain tho b/c whatever that guy gets....im sure he deserves. |
Buy somewhere else and drive it to the offending dealer and ask the jerk sales guy if he can help you with accessories. Laugh at him and walk to the service manager and tell him you will not be having them do any service for you because of the aforementioned jerk sales guy. Finally, post his name and number so we can annoy him for you.
Or you could take the high road, demand your documents including anything with your signature back and take your business elsewhere. |
I would have punched him in the ****.
|
I was also denied the grad deduction. Even with signed documents stating I'd be graduating within the 4 months they kept giving me the run around (toyota, not the dealer). They said the signatures and the date all had to be on the same paper which was not possible as I'm taking a course through a different school than the one issuing my diploma.
If you REALLY want / need the deduction, wait till you've actually graduated and show them the diploma. They can't say anything about that. Plus you'll likely be buying a 2014 model by then (within 4 months). |

BTW he saw what I made and it isn't much so this kind of pisses me off cuz he based the insult on my actual salary. |

I seriously seriously recommend you report him to them by one of there ways of contact on the above site, they will probably take some action against him and also tell them you already posted the issue onto this forum and people will know about the despicable service if they don't take action. Most likely the dealer will reconsider the deal with you on the car and take disciplinary action on the douchebag. Best of luck TAKE THE TIME AND DO IT !!! and you be in a FRS in no time ;):burnrubber: |
I agree you were mistreated and you should definitely report this to the GM of the dealership so that this dealer doesn't get away treating another honest customer like this again. I had a similar experience when first searching for my car. I test drove the whiteout that was available on the lot and told the dealer firsthand that I was not looking to purchase their modded out whiteout but he still insisted on me test driving it. After I returned from the test drive, he tried everything in the book to get me to take the bait but I told him that I was given a VIN of a bare bones whiteout coming into the dealership that I wanted to place a deposit on. He stated that the VIN just disappeared and he couldn't locate the car that I wanted. After that, he pretty much was done talking and show my fiance and I the door without even trying to at least figure out a way to still do business together.
On using the recent grad discount, Toyota is very strict on you meeting their terms. If your transcript does not show your tentative graduation date, I would wait until this information is available as Toyota will have nothing to go on to prove that you have met their terms for the discount to apply. Also, if you have a job in the field in which you are getting your diploma, they will ask for check stubs to prove your employment status. I wish you luck on finding your next car! |
Don't be too concerned about his attitude toward your salary. I walked out of a dealership because they wanted my salary. I told them I was self employed @ $15K per year and he told me I could not afford the car. Left, went elsewhere and wrote a check for six figures to another dealer. Moral of the story, don't ever judge a book by its cover.

You should go and deal with the other sales manager thats on a different shift and a different salesman, look around talk to a few find a decent guy and buy from him that would piss both the shitheads off cause they lost the sales and 1 less on the sales board for both of them. That is if you even want to deal with that dealership anymore.
|
Hold up, your tl;dr isn't sufficient.
> Doesn't understand College Rebate Program, refuses to check it > Has an emotional outburst when you show some hesitation about buying > Refuses to give you back college transcript, utility bill, offer sheet > Implies a Scion iQ is expensive Idk why you're being polite about this. I would at least notify the manager. Think about how many sales he has lost the dealership due to his childish anger issues. Really, a kid coming in to a Scion dealership with his dad, and actually sitting down and discussing prices should be a 100% sale. Especially with the pure pricing, where there isn't any haggling anyway. |
I don't take bull5hit, I would call toyota, I would do everything in my power to get that guy fired. u mess with me, I will DAMN mess with you!
I would go back, get a business card (send a friend to get one) would make sure his name, dealership, etc is posted all over the freaking internet, specially toyota/scion forums I would also send him the links so he can see for himself. yup I don't take crap lightly. I would specially do it for the insult to my dad. |
Call the dealership and ask for the sales manager...tell him the story and then thank him and say that you are so glad you went with a BRZ instead lol...they'll be less than thrilled with whomever gave you a hard time

People like that are a big part of the reason that Scion is not doing sales within the range of corporate expectations.
Talk to the general manager of the dealership, and if he doesn't care, just let Scion know about it...they will care about your experience if you frame your story constructively and politely. If nothing comes of it, so what, at least you got it off your chest. |
Did he really slam his head on the desk? I was with my dad when we went to go look at the new 3 series, Our salesman was getting aggressive as well, would walk out on us mid conversation while my dad was still talking.Ridiculous
|
People like that dont belong in customer service positions esp. @ a dealer. Shop around first impressions are everything and if that guy acted like a total douche it says something about the quality of the dealership and personnel who work there. "too expensive for you" LMFAO that'sa new one, Toyota dealership saying that. Are you sure you wernt in a Mercedes dealership
|
what a d bag!!! definitely complain to toyota on his ass. he had not right to with hold those papers from you.
|
What dealership was this? I want to make sure I don't buy a car from them every day from now on.
|
Short answer, hell ya, toyota takes that shit seriously, sales ppl get surveyed all the time
|
He doesn't deserve your business. Go somewhere else where they will work with you.

For the Grad Rebate I had to get my school to fax a form that said I was expected to graduate within the 4 four months. Me printing my transcript and all that was no good. It only cost me $15 and I got the rebate. Talk to your Admissions/Registrar's office and see if they have something like that. |
You can put your story on Yelp or cars.com give them one star, that's always get the dealer attention.
|
What was the name of the dealership?
|
Even if there is more to the story (and I suspect there is) before you got to the point of negotiating the trade and rebate he shouldn't have banged his fist on the table or said you can't afford a certain car. If your dad had to ask the price...then it's one of those dealerships where they don't price the cars so they can deliberately alter the prices when they think they have a sucker on the line.
Complaining to the dealership manager probably won't make a difference if they're the type of place that doesn't advertise the prices but you can try. Honestly the best they'll do is offer you a deal you can't refuse then the first time you take it for service you'll have a shit experience so I wouldn't bother. Find another dealer and put this one in the blacklist thread and write nasties on Yelp! and google reviews, etc. |
Talked to sales manager he apologized and said they would talk to the salesman, I don't think he really cared. It was World Toyota/Scion near Atlanta. Now reporting this to Toyota/Scion.

Toyota/Scion customer service will listen politely, open a complaint, and then funnel you back to the dealer "customer service rep" who is a glorified punching bag that has zero power (in my experience with Ford and Scion) unless you have something with legal weight to it. Sales run dealerships.
Best case scenario is they'll sell you the car you want (hopefully using a different salesman). Capitalism is simple, go to another dealer (ideally not owned by the same people), never set foot on that dealer lot again. Personally I hope I never have to buy a Toyota again after the runaround it took to buy my car. Edit: Certainly file the complaint, if they have a large enough backlog something might actually happen but I'd rather see the place go out of business. |
Thing is he has your paperwork (transcript and all) and refused to give it back? What a child...I dont know how you didnt go around the guy to talk to his boss right then and there. Then went to another toyota dealer.
|
If a salesperson ever told me "Don't ask, you can't afford it" I would get very upset and definitely find a superior. No salesperson should ever disrespect a customer! Even if they think Ford makes the Camaro and Chevy makes the Mustang lol
