Subaru Nav BT connectivity

My phone constantly drops Bluetooth connection to the OE navigation HU in my BRZ. Someone told me there is a TSB for a firmware update that supposedly fixes these horrible connection issues but I can't find any information and my dealer is <playing> dumb. Can anyone tell me anything useful?

I and a few other members here have that same issue as well. Seems not everyone is affected, either because of different phones or just a random issue for some. IIRC, the Navi TSB doesn't have anything to do w/ the BT, but is about the reception of the Sat/Navi antenna. Hope that helps.

Also, deleting the phone book on the Navi and reconnecting, from scratch, helped me a bit with the dropped BT connections.

What phone are you using? Some have difficulty, mine in particular is an HTC One S with stuttering playback on the BRZ nav unit and I have to toggle bluetooth on and off on the phone after starting the car to get it to work properly.

It's a Galaxy S4. I'll try repairing it. I already have the phonebook and SMS sync off. Not too optimistic.

My phone had always connected just fine and remained connected. Then yesterday it connected and disconnected about 30 times on the way to work. I have an older HTC Evo 3D. I think it might be a phone issue and not a Subaru issue.

My SGS3 sometimes has issues. Randomly drops every 4-5 minutes, then clears up for half an hour. My Defy XT has no issues ever that I've noticed.

I had BT drop issues as well. I unpaired and deleted the phone, changed the startup screen image, and repaired the phone. On repair I allowed phonebook echange but denied the MAP (messaging). So far it has worked great. Are any of those things the solution? Who knows, but it's working for me!

I know that when I had CM10 on my Galaxy 3S Skyrocket the BT hated connecting to the phone. Once I reverted back to CM9 everything was fine again.

I just rebooted my phone, and I haven't had a disconnect since.

Hey, I've got the Galaxy S3 and have the same issues. I had the TSB for the head unit performed and no dice on fixing it. Basically Subaru's headunit is complete $#!T and I look forward to when a nice Android unit comes out which I feel is suitable to replace it. I actually feel like Subaru should release a TSB for the whole head unit, admit that it is crap, and give me back some of my purchase price for the car because it is that bad!

I have an iPhone 4S and take lots of calls/stream music and have never had an issue yet (fingers crossed). On my Genesis Coupe this started happening all the time and was just random over BT.

iPhone 4 jailbroken, no BT issues, connects up quickly and has never dropped BT ever.

The TSB has NOTHING to do with Bluetooth. It is only for the GPS antenna lock up issue. Good luck getting that TSB for the whole head unit and a check back from Subaru. Mine works great.

According to my dealer they had a TSB/or similar for the Bluetooth issues too. This required them to get a firmware update for the head unit which i had to wait on to arrive. You're more than welcome to contact Kelly Subaru in Chattanooga, TN and ask Tim the service manager about what work they performed. If it wasn't classified a TSB then it was at least a known issue with a possible solution. Just sharing what was done on my vehicle bro! Never thought I'd run into a TSB Nazi! LoL Relax!

Top tip: Unless neccesary, only keep one phone in the headunits blueteeth memory. I had an impossible time with getting my iPhone 5 to connect till I deleted my iPhone 4 out of the memory.

How do you remove a phone? I just got a new phone, and I couldn't figure out how to remove the old one. I guess it is time to RTFM.

qoncept 06-17-2013 11:22 AM

I couldn't figure it out either. I messed with it a bunch and deleted the car from the phone. So far it seems to be working alright but I'm not listening to music from the phone so I don't pay much attention.
