FRS Out run 3.25 BMW from Launch

Way to go!!!!!!

Luis_GT 06-05-2013 03:33 PM

you realize that the 325 only has 215 hp... hardly anything to boast about...

Asphalt~86 06-05-2013 03:37 PM

Autographed. My automatic Lincoln Continental shifts better.

Whitigir 06-05-2013 03:43 PM

FRS is 200 HP ?

Chimpo 06-05-2013 03:51 PM

Battle of high-14 second car versus a mid-15 second car: everyone loses here.

Yes, at the crank ...

torqdork 06-05-2013 03:59 PM

And 500+ lbs. lighter with shorter gears and better aero.

I think both cars are exceptional and are/were benchmarks in their time. Pretty remarkable to see the advances in design, materials, engineering and manufacturing in just seven years that make a 2013 $25,000 car outperform a 2006 $30,000+ ($37,000+ for a base 328i today) übercar from the recent past.

Exactly.....It is not just HP, but in everything else we beat it....Pricing is one great example

charged86 06-05-2013 04:17 PM

not all 325's had 215

luxury sedan vs sports car... apple and oranges... it's like comparing the FR-S to my old Mustang GT... it would woop the FRS in any drag race for about the same money... and, since you're comparing a 7 year old car to the FR-s you can get a 2008 335 for less than an FRS which is a lot faster and luxurious...

And finally, you can get a 2002 M5 for like 16K and that is the ultimate in sports saloons... with over 400 HP

I know that, I just thought it is interesting to throw it out there. Comparing Price wise, used BMW, Audi, Merc, or Whatever German = Money Sink.

You can buy it for dirt cheap, but then spend thousands every year for maintenance. FRS and BRZ are cheap from Brand-new, and if you leave it stock, it will be as reliable as any Toyota. They will just run forever without Thousands per year to maintain beside the tear and wear items

Luis_GT 06-05-2013 04:32 PM

In 5 years I've only put about 2K in maintenance to my 10 year old BMW... I won't count the coil over's as maintenance though...

itzo 06-05-2013 04:46 PM

@Luis_GT I agree with you the two cars are very very different.

I had E90 328i manual with the sports package and I can say bot cars are just can not be compared. I personally have more fun with the FR-S even though i miss some of the comfort features of the BMW.
@Whitigir I agree with the fact they depreciate extremely fast and cost more to maintain (the bigger the model the worst the financial picture is)

thill 06-05-2013 05:05 PM

Yeah, this is a weird comparison... And not sure why many people would even care?

torqdork 06-05-2013 05:17 PM

Dollars to donuts, so to speak.

A base 3 series is an "übercar"? Since when?

Haha, video guy has it right-- "Haha, it's the world's slowest drag race!" Who cares though, slow means you can have fun on the street :)

Don't get me wrong - it's a great car. However, the base level 3 series has never been about going fast in a straight line (nor have any of the others for that matter though a 335 or M3 certainly isn't slow in a drag race). To me, "ubercar" implies something a bit better than an excellent-to-drive, $35k german sedan though.

Honestly, I'd take a 2002tii over any 3 Series.

If there had been a cop sitting just over that rise, I wonder if he would have been able to keep a straight face as he wrote them a ticket for drag racing.

Most likely a ticket for going too slow in the passing lane...
