Did they get rid of the dip?

Jeff86 05-23-2013 09:06 PM

Does this really make sense? That seems like a small enough turbo from a lag perspective. Seems like an over complicated and probably problematic setup. Any thoughts as to why it's a good idea?

Gonna give them the benefit of the doubt that, with all that's going on there, they don't have too much of an issue. lol

Draco-REX 05-23-2013 09:43 PM

I've been kicking around a compound-charged idea. My reasoning is that the SC will provide immediate throttle response and mid range punch, allowing a larger turbo than would normally be chosen to be fitted for top end power.

True but I assume they aren't running a huge turbo and a centri SC doesn't hit instant boost that would help spool a turbo

This setup makes zero sense at all. Sorry guys, I can understand that it might be sexy due to the level of complication, or the discoloration on the strut tower spring, but in all seriousness, the effectiveness of this particular setup would make it nothing but a tuning and maintenance nightmare.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about again, that non-positive displacement supercharger probably doesn't make much in the low end, similar to the vortech kits. And that tiny turbo probably runs out of breath up top. Maybe they did this so that the turbo would give them the low end and the supercharger would give them the high end. Which would make it the most expensive way to get ~200 ftlbs of torque across the rev range that I've ever heard of. And, flat out the dumbest thing, I've even seen done to a car.

hmm, tough call. Dangerous, and completely not function.

Without invoking the spirit of G, the heat issues created from two non-positive displacement compressors might still trump that. HKS might have to spray it just to lower the IAT's.

It's just a marketing exercise, not an engineering marvel.

I honestly thought Evasive Motorsports was posting this just as a forum member, after having found something interesting. I really can't see HKS selling this, but if I'm wrong I, my apologies.

A little of topic sorry but i must find out lol.... Roots blower + big turbo would make a little more sense

Oh yes.. Hate those things. "Let's show the world just how we're clogging it up with positive population growth!"

The ones I like are the ones with bags of money instead of children.

that's what i'm thinking. with a positive displacement blower and larger turbo there is something to be gained from it (turbo thinks it's on a bigger engine, basically), but i'm not sure about this. it's hard to tell how it's set up from the picture.

That was the fad some years ago but its already out of style for the most part.
