NASA TTD Track Record at Sebring!
1 Attachment(s)
I'm at Sebring this weekend and was hoping to challenge for the TTD class record.
It stood at 2:34.15 - set a few years ago by a supercharged Miata with a good driver. I was able to do a bit better than that today. Attachment 35473 2:31.893! Video to come soon... |
Great job, can't wait to see the video :)

Damn Jon, nice work! Looks like you're hell bent on breaking every track TTD record lol.
Was that Joshua's record in TTD? |
Wow!
Waiting for the video |
For those who aren't familiar with NASA Time Trial competition, I'll try to break it down as simply as possible:
Every car is assigned a base classification. The classes are TTF, TTE, TTD, TTC, TTB, TT1/2/3 in order from slow to fast. Any modification you do to the car adds "points" to your car. You are only allowed to spend 19 points within your class, once you asses your 20th modification point your car gets bumped up to the next highest class. So as you can imagine it becomes very important to be smart about your mods and how you spend your points. The full rules are here: http://www.nasa-TT.com They can seem overwhelming and confusing at first but the system is designed to equalize cars as best as possible. I recommend attending an event and talking to your local TT racers and series directors if you're interested in friendly competition. The FR-S platform has proven extremely competitive so far. See my previous post about nearly winning the National Championship last year. So, the FR-S is a base class of TTD which leaved me with 19 points to spend without getting bumped up to TTC. There is also a weight to horsepower ratio that you cannot exceed: for TTD it is 14.25:1. If you are lower than that, regardless of points, you get bumped up. I actually still have a few points to play with within my class, but it's almost to the limit. It's a great format for HPDE drivers to bridge the gap between driving for fun and full out wheel to wheel racing. |

I think that was Josh's car with Victor Leo driving it. Josh came up to congratulate me, but that was this morning when I put up a 2:33.2... I'm not sure how he feels about a 31! Another friend is building a TTD Civic that is apparently going to be a monster - but it won't really be ready until later this year. They think that car in D trim will be in the 20s around Sebring, which would be very impressive. |
Very quick. Great work!

Haha, too funny. L.D. told me you are on coilovers; which brand, and how did they do at Sebring? I'm at Sebring about once a month, and I want to find a coilover that can put up with a track that rough, without having to step up to a crazy custom Penske setup or something along those lines. |

Jon, VIR...do it!!! does the hoosier contingency kick in at every track or at the end of the season. cus you're placing pretty regularly now.
btw are you driving OLOA for anyone? |

hahahaha, the DJ'ing while setting a lap record is great! |

I'm going to try to bring the car to VIR in July when I'm there for the Ultimate Track Car Challenge (driving something else... with quite a bit more horsepower) Current record at VIR is a 2:14.something in TTD... pretty damn quick around there for a D car! It was set in an MX-5. Probably a Playboy Cup car, but I have no idea what mods it had above and beyond the MX-5 Playboy Cup spec, if anything - the Florida region posts everyone's spec sheets if you're a competitor, but nobody else does that, that I'm aware of. As for OLOA... not this year. I wish. Leh's gonna be tough to beat in that new GTR. I've done the event twice, but I'd love to give it another go in a car capable of challenging for an overall win. So, basically, a GTR. |
Great job! I noticed you behind me @ check-in on Sun AM, as I was headed to the AutoX.
|
I use to take my M3 to Curtis from WTF..he's a good guy.

Hey remember, Skeen put down a 2.24 bone stock.. and i've heard of someone else putting in a 2.17 on 265's and springs so 2.13 for your setup is in reach i think. |
Have you experience any odd behaviors on track i.e. ice mode, CELs, etc. ?

Side mirrors folded in for maximum aero?
Nice lap! I've found my GoPro also doesn't deal with the light contrast from the sun well when mounted to the back window. Hard to see the track when the sun is beaming down on the dash, but I've learned enough from my Forza laps at Sebring to know where you are on track. |
Break all the records now before they realize they made a huge mistake putting this car in TTD :)

At Sebring I have 1000+ laps. It's my home track. I know the place pretty well and the history of TT competition in FL isn't necessarily as strong as in other regions. I have a friend building a TTD civic for later this year - he will be strong competition as his car will make far more power than mine. At Roebling, the car is pretty damn near the perfect setup for that track. I expected to be pretty fast there (though not a 20.2... Now I want a 19!). If the car gets bumped up a class it won't be competitive and in my opinion they would only hurt themselves by discouraging people to run the car. For example to TTC record at Sebring is a 2:26. No way could this car touch that time without Forced induction. D is where the car belongs. My real hope is that people see what the car can do and decide to come out and start competing for themselves! |

I have felt the EBD working under my feet and I have also driven with the pedal dance method. I do notice a difference with everything turned off (pedal dance) but I've only done it once, so I'll need to try it again to give my full thoughts. This lap was set without the pedal dance method used but traction completely off by holding the button. |

Jon,
I'm interested in your setup for TTD. I used to run a 2001 Corvette Z06 in TTA but totaled it at Roebling in 2012. I picked up a 2013 BRZ recently and was thinking about getting back into time trails and perhaps autocross. I don't want to make the car into a complete race car (the C5Z was). Setup advice? |
Quote:
I can not tell you anything about setup advice, but what I can tell you is where Jon spent his points. I got this information from the NASA TT forums. 225 A6 +13 TTD allows 245 as standard running 225 -4 Tires : +9 Exhaust: +2 Suspension: +5 (BC Coils) Tune: E85 @ 181 hp and 140 tq (It was somewhere around these numbers. I am pulling from memory on this one) Total 16 of 19 allowed. I hope this helped. |
