mods for $3-$5k?
What exhaust, suspensuon, etc is great for frs but with a low budget of say around 3-5grand
|
For exhaust, i recommend this http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24472

3-5 grand isn't a LOW budget. For that price you could get a full turbo/supercharger kit. Are you basically asking us to just hand you every best part for your car within a budget of 5g total?

Unfortunately posting a thread saying what mods exhaust suspension etc is too vague. What do you want out of the car? Looks? Power? Handling? Grip? Noise? |
This is a very common and liked setup for engine mods:
1. Perrin Catback 2. Takeda Momentum Intake 3. Perrin or similar lightweight Crank Pulley 4. Ecutek or Visconti tune |
These threads are stupid. It's your car. You need to do research to find what you want.
Suppose I thought getting a new paint job was best, was you do it? |
Learn how to drive it before changing everything.

Do you want to look pretty? Do you want to go faster in a straight line? Do you want to go faster around a corner? Those are the three reasons to mod, figure out what you want. No amount of money will fix the nut behind the wheel. |
depending on whay you are trying to do with the car.. then set goals.. get a feel of the car..
|
really depends what style of modding you like, but for looks, a nice set of rims and a good drop really makes this car stand out.
Handling, change out the bushings, sways, and maybe coils with proper adjustment, corner balancing and a alignment right after. Power, you can probably do CAI, light weight crank pulley, Headers, front pipe, exhaust and a tune for about 3k. Or dump it on Vortech or AVO kit, but 5k may not be enough with labor etc. I always mix-match visual and performance so I can enjoy both ends of the world. |
For under $5,000 I got new rims and tires (Nitto Nt-05), Koni Shocks, Porterfield brake pads, Rexspeed carbon fiber lip, Invidia N1 Exhaust, Stivo Ducktail Spoiler and for myself Simpson bandit helmet with Iridium visor. I autox and the tires, brakes, konis, exhaust are all functional for my events. The front lip and rear spoiler was just to add some looks for my pleasure. Like everyone else is saying, if you are looking for speed... get a turbo/supercharger kit. If you are looking to turn, get a suspension and tires. If you are going for looks, get rims, a body/lip kit, spoiler, led lights etc etc. What do you see more appealing on your car?

Too many nice people here.

@Duy
All joking aside... Take an honest self-appraisal of what you are planning to do with your car before you set off buying mods. This is the only way you will be sure to get the most out of any mods you perform. There are plenty of people here that can provide some great feedback whether you are looking to build a; - Show car - Drift car - Autocrosser - Track Day car - Dyno Queen - Ricer-mobile Scott |

Like others have said, what is your end goal? That will determine where you spend your money. Mine is my DD and I have done mostly cosmetic things. Custom door sills, center console plaque, HID's, LED exterior light change out, HVAC gauge swap, radar detector along with springs and exhaust. With a bigger budget, I would have put KW V3's on my car, but they just weren't in my budget for a DD.
Best part about this car, it is a canvas to do anything with and make it your own car. Create an ultimate Autox or track car or a fun as hell daily driver, that is half the fun. |
AST 4150 Coilovers when they are released with camber plates. Nice wheels and sticky tires :) We're biased though.

"The wheel of choice for people who want to look like everyone else!" BTW: Not hating, just playing. I was parked in the sports car paddock at Barber Motorsports Park for the Indy and Grand-Am race last weekend and out of 50 S2000s, over half had RFP1s! Great wheels, light, strong, but they are like @#$holes! Scott |
Willing to bet you won't track your car. Just go with stance. Neon lights lambo doors and slammed to the ground.
On the serious side... 5k is enough to get full bolt ons plus a decent set of coils. Check out my build I have so far. Just spent a little under 5k. |
Why not spend some of that taking a roadtrip and attending some HPDE or autocross events? You may change your mind about what mods you want to make...

Tell us what your goals are then you can get better answers. I'm a little about OEM bling, everyday drive-ability, and performance. These would make me happy and should fall around your budget to make a visual and visceral difference over stock:
TRD or Factory Tune aero kit TRD CAI TRD Exhaust (or the many other full exhaust systems that exist) TRD Shift Knob Lowering springs or coilovers Lightweight, flow cast aluminum wheels (Enkei, WedsSport, etc.) About the "learn to drive your car first" bit - that's biased towards a minority of owners on an extreme end of the spectrum. Makes more sense if you're always taking it to the track or endangering lives by driving 10/10ths on public roads. It depends on your reasons for owning the car. The average enthusiast buys a sports car for entertainment and takes the occasional opportunity for a spirited drive or track day. Hardly any appreciable time is spent driving at the limit to reap any performance benefits from mods. And body kits [generally] hurt performance more than help. So why do we mod? For the same reason we bought the car: entertainment. An already special sports car becomes a little more special with upgrades (not applicable to those who only use this car as a track tool/are emotionally detached). Don't feel obligated to master how to drive to Walmart "at the limit" before you're allowed to mod lolol |
With 5k might as well slap on a turbo! :burnrubber:
