Garbage inside my hood???!!!
4 Attachment(s)
I opened my hood yesterday to check up on my oil. And I find a TON of garbage, newspapers, mcdee cups and what not, but it was A LOT. I filled up 3 shopping bags that you get from target. I couldnt get a picture cuz right went I saw it I went into panic mode. Can someone open the hood while the car is locked?
Car did not go on fire, thank god. But it did burn a bit of the fire resistant foam on the hood. I live in an apartment and the car is parked on the ground level so anyone has access to it. I've attached picture on how it looked like. Most of the garbage came from this pine tree. The one with needle like branches. UPDATE APR 3 Im looking for the rubber cover on top of the alternator. I went to the dealership today and they can't find it(looked for 15min). Does anyone know the part#? Also, the animal decided to eat some of the hood insulation off. Should I replace the insulation, it cost $50. |
Animals do this. Usually rodents but I suppose a cat could have as well.
Did this happen while you had it stored over the winter? Chances are something Hibernated there. |
funny thing is I use it everyday and last time I checked my hood was 2 weeks ago. BTW Its around 0-10 degrees celcius
I'm betting a rodent of some sort made a nest in your nice warm engine bay, especially considering the cold temperatures. I suggest putting rat poison around your car if feasible, before they chew up something important.
Will rat poison kill squirrels? I normally see a lot of them in my building as well as cats.
This looks photoshopped to me.

As a squirrel owner, I implore you not to use poison.

Total photoshop. Edges of the debris are way too straight. WTF was OP thinking?
Extremely symmetrical nest building. I think you need to call the Smithsonian.
Poison fast because I had animals doing that to mine and they chewed right into my main engine harness causing a 3700$ repair
check for rodent intrusion
Copied a picture of this and left it in a square? That's not even photoshop, that's Windows Paint.
This place is starting to creep me the fuck out. Seriously, I'm waiting for the day someone reports locusts coming from the gas tank.
Wow this really freaks me out, now i'm going to be inspecting my engine bay every day...
I thought the rodents were running the engine?
come on guys the OP even STATED it wasn't an actual picture and that he was just illustrating what it kind of looked like....I hope you all feel like super sleuths now....
Need more MSpaint FR-S mods.
and some cowbell. |

I bet driving really fast would get rid of them
In areas of the country (Arizona) where this is very common, owners routinely leave their hoods propped open at night.
How did you get your hands on a RHD BRZ?

I strictly said I couldnt get a picture but I have provided an illustration for the people who cannot picture garbage inside the engine.
Anyways, back to the topic at hand. Im' starting to believe its squirrels or cats. Dont really see a lot of mice. |

All I know was that it was a horrifying scene:cry: |

Perhaps providing some wholesome snacks nearby would dissuade them. Rodents like Nature Valley bars, fresh fruit and berries, a good assortment of cheeses, and perhaps a small dish of beer would be nice. After that, wire insulation will have little to no appeal.
it's April 1st, and OP is really bad at Photoshop.
Do not use poison. That's just creating another problem.
Oh and cats don't do that.

update
Pack rats collect and store debris/junk to make their nests. They're a common problem in the Tucson area. They're cute little devils. They resemble Mighty Mouse but they can cause a world of hurt. I use a "have-a-heart" trap to catch them. I take them further out in the desert and release them. They probably don't survive the new environment because of the food chain but at least they have a chance.

Here's an interesting link you may wanna look at. Look at that guys engine! Crazy!
maybe look into the jdm full coverage underskirts?
I can't find the link now, but awhile back i had seen a tin can kinda thing with a magnet on the back and vent's on the lid. Basically you could put moth balls or some other vapor like substance inside and it would smell up the engine bay and would keep pest's away. maybe you could make one?
I'm thinking get a metal tin like this: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Enkaustikos-ounce-metal-can-matching/dp/B000BMS22K/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2Q5IO6WKPHRK Q&coliid=I17K83E40G6PKQ"]Amazon.com: Enkaustikos 8 ounce metal can with matching lid: Home & Kitchen[/ame] and cut some vents out in the lid and then attach a magnet to either the back or stick it inside to stick to a part of the engine compartment, probably around the edge somewhere. |
Just leave the hood propped open, its what we do out here in critter country
its no longer a shelter. I swear, it works. I live in pack rat central. |
