Another track day video from Buttonwillow

This event was on 3/9/13 with Speedventures.com. The track was very "green" from the rain just hours before, and track was still damp for the first couple sessions. It took a while for it to rubber-in a little bit. I improved my PB (Personal Best) lap to 2:07.0 and had a passenger in the car with me when I ran that lap. I still need to improve on some areas, and my Check Engine Light came back this event which was cutting power :( I also need new rotors and pads as my Project Mu B-Force have about 6 events on them now and are pretty much toast. My Hankook RS3 tires are also pretty much dunzo and old. I'm confident that once I get new pads/rotors/tires and run with no passenger, I can hopefully get into the 2:04 lap time range.

There were some other FR-S/86's there, but didn't really see what they were running time-wise. They were in different run groups.

This video shows me chasing down a new Porsche 997 911 GT3, a Lotus Elise and an E90 BMW M3. So much fun!

Time to go up a step to HC+800! Added benefit: they're cheaper than B-force too.... :D

suaveflooder 03-15-2013 01:28 PM

Nice video! How were the seats? Looked like you were adjusting every so often after a hard turn

@CSG Mike I agree! I'm just scared the HC+800 will eat rotors like no tomorrow. The B-Force isn't so bad on rotors, but this is my daily driver, haha. Hmm. :bonk:
@suaveflooder Yeah, the seats are OK for being stock, but I have to readjust every so often. I should take my Recaro SPG bucket out of my S14 and throw it in there for track days :) The worst part though is that my right leg hits the side of the console and the next day I got some nice bruises, haha. I might have to get those JDM knee pads.

CSG Mike 03-15-2013 02:03 PM

Well, we put around 19k miles on the shop car with race pads on....

iLuveKetchup 03-15-2013 02:33 PM

What caused the CEL? And how often do you get it?

Were all those miles using stock calipers and rotors? I thought you have the AP brake kit, right? :)

Good ol' cam angle sensor code. I usually get it after like 5 or 6 hard laps on the track. I gotta take it back to the dealer and have them fix it for good. So frustrating.

A mix of, but heat stress (and eventual cracking) is the larger concern , rather than just eating into the rotor and running them too thin. We have a set of barely used (to the dealer and back on stock pads... literally 40 miles of freeway driving) rotors that we'd be willing to unload...

Hmm, PM me with a price

 What a waste of a GT3.... No doubt the driver was making excuses somehow.

Good show, nice driving, and thanks for sharing!

I can see that. :) Still, there's no reason a FRS/BRZ should be passing a 997.2 GT3. I remember passing an MP4-12C and Viper ACR in the same lap once in my old Evo and thought to myself, "what are these guys doing?" It's not me. It was them. They sucked. I had no delusions where I thought an Evo could hang with any of those cars. I'm not saying you guys were thinking that way, not at all. However, there are people on this board who will come to that silly conclusion.

orthojoe 03-15-2013 07:31 PM

Then again, if OP is making massive power over stock with some sort of FI, then I take back my comments. It doesn't look like he is, though...

Fleshy 03-17-2013 01:19 PM

Nice run. It was cool to meet you mark thanks for answering all my questions . I believe the next closest BRZ/FRS was at 2.11 or .12.

Thanks! It was nice meeting you too! I bet you're chomping at the bit to pick up your new FR-S! haha. Hope to see you out there soon :D

Yep i am waiting for the call sucks it was due this week and they got a whiteout in but it has a factory wing which i do not want and my deposit is on a bone stock one anyhow...so the wait continues. Have my eye on the June runs at laguna seca.

cf6mech 03-17-2013 02:09 PM

Nice, very nice,....Don't know what the Elise was running tire wise but when you can hold a tighter line than a Elise (as you did on many corners),....thats a very good thing and speaks volumes for this car.

twincamRob 03-17-2013 04:13 PM

Nice driving! Chasing down 'faster' cars is always a blast!

I know what you mean, my right knee/upper calf were killed the day after I was on the track lol! Makes me want to put some pads in like Toyota did for the Long Beach celebrity race...

If you talked to some guy who would not shut up with questions for any FRS/BRZ owner i could find it was me.

D1cker 03-18-2013 01:24 AM

nice video, I'd love to do an event with you as we're running very similar times.

I think you have more "ride along" time with me than anyone else with a FRS/BRZ...

Mark Slide Squad 03-18-2013 12:25 PM

I need these pads! Either that or I wear knee pads haha

Good deal! I'm always down to drive with more FR-S/BRZ's! We need more of them out at the track, and not at the local hard-parking meets at Starbucks haha

Should be a good turnout at SoWS 3/31.

Next FT86Cup event is in April at WSIR

do you mind to show how you mount your camera inside your car?? it's a good angle.
are you going to the buttonwillow on April 14? I'm going to that one!

Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the camera mounted. I am using a Replay XD camera with a suction cup mounted to the inside of the rear window, about 5" down from the top of the window.

I don't think I'll be able to make the BW event on the 14th :( I will be at Chuckwalla though the following weekend with Raceline USA events!

M3 looked very unstable in the corners. Either not setup optimal or driver over driving it.

Yeah, he seemed to be over driving it I think. On corner exits he was just mashing the throttle and keeping it there.

And probably thought he was doing excellent and an awesome driver.

Thanks Jeff! Yeah, I am sure the M3 is probably a member of the "Tire of the Month Club" haha. Buttonwillow is such a fun track though! Speedventures definitely puts on a great event. There were a bit too many cars signed up for the event, but it was organized very well and professional.

You could kinda see the camera in the right wing mirror.
