Will GT86 Limited Parts come as FR-S Options?

I do not own one of the twins, but hope to buy one in the next year or two. I, like many of the people on this forum, am torn between the BRZ and the FR-S. I like the FR-S exterior styling, but I like the BRZ limited's nice interior options. Like many have said, a top trim model GT86 would be ideal. Unfortunately I am pretty confident that Toyota will never do that in the U.S. So rather than buy an FR-S and try to add all of that stuff in (or buy a BRZ and try to change the exterior), I was thinking of just waiting to see what options Scion will offer in the future. (I really can't buy one now so I have to wait anyway)

That leads me to my question. Do you guys think that Scion will work to bring most/all of the nice options that are present in the GT86 to the FR-S? I know there will never be a "limited trim" because of the whole "monospec" thing with Scion, but I could see things like dual climate control, push button start, HID headlights, etc. coming as future options. Anyone know anything about this?

PS I apologize if there is already a thread on this (I did actually search a bit). Please just shoot me the link and I will be on my way.

Unlikely. We may see some of them in a future Release Series, though.

NemesisPrime909 02-13-2013 12:22 PM

time will only tell.

however I would like to thing a few will, we've seen the FR-S with foglights in official photos, yet the foglights are not available as of now, a rear spoiler has just popped up as well.

now has for HIDs, keyless entry, and dual climate control those once might be limited to Release series models. and not be available on standard models. this is the reason i'm waiting to purchase mine.

i love both cars but have a strong lean towards the fr-s due to the many TRD models they've shown namely the 80'S throwback that was at this years TAS.

if they day comes where the release series is announced and it doesn't have the at the very least HIDs then I may just have to jump on a standard FR-S or BRZ

Buy a BRZ and switch bumpers with an FRS. Done.

Thanks for the input. I too have noticed those elusive fog lights in the official pics. It didn't even occur to me that they would do a release series. Now that you guys have mentioned it I can't wait to see what they come out with!

Is it really that simple though? Aren't there some differences that would makes this difficult (fitting, wiring, etc)? I haven't seen any pics of what that looks like. Has anyone done this and posted pics?

I'm actually would be interested in swapping my FRS to brz.
I think it would fit. But the brz guy would lose his fog lights

So when I'm on the Scion website and "build an fr-s', what foglights are they putting on with the option they give you if not the ones in the official photos?

The only differences in the wiring would be for the fogs which the car is pre-wired for so it should be doable.

I have heard it has been done before already. I thought I even saw a post on here about it. I can't find it now though.

I found this pic of an FRS with a BRZ headlights. Either than or it is a BRZ who put the FR-S bumper and swapped the side "vents".

Yes, but good luck finding an FR-S owner that likes the BRZ bumper better.

Why do you think it is unlikely? I would think it would be easy to add as an option since the parts have already been designed and manufactured. It would make sense to offer them as factory options IMO. I'm not saying you are wrong. I just wanted to hear why you thought that.

MVJ1975 02-13-2013 03:20 PM

Scion isn't really big on those sort of options. Beyond dealer-installed parts like TRD performance upgrades, they don't offer a lot of factory or port-installed options; if they happen, they happen as part of the RS.

kthxbai 02-13-2013 03:22 PM

Unlikely. Unless you have deep pockets and don't mind purchasing the goodies yourself, the closes the US will get to the "extras" from a GT86 is a release series FRS.

Thanks for the input. That makes sense given Scion's history with options.

They don't give you the option. but the fact that we've seen them in promo photos one can assume that they will be available soon.

as for now I would say ask your local dealer.

they may be inquiry only right now.

Well it kinda sucks they put them as an option to add on their website... Frustrating.

Then there's the fender 86 piston logos, the airbag, the floor mats (if the BRZ has a BRZ logo like the 86 has an 86 logo on them), the badges, the fog lights (different housing at the least on the Toyota), the headlights since they're different from BRZ to Toyota, the suspension since the BRZ is tuned to oversteer where the Toyota is tuned to neutral, then there's the kneepads on the interior, the undercar covers from 86 GT Limited, and if you wanted the red/black leather alcantara seats from the Toyota instead of the black and red stitching or the rest of the red colour keyed interior parts...... little more than just a bumper swap.

That's no FR-S, note the clear side marker lights. Unless they swapped those out too, that's either a BRZ or an 86.

No need, FR-S owners have been wrecking them at a amazing rate. Some of which leave the bumper in tact.

If you swapped out the whole front bumper along with the fog lights in it from the BRZ that would handle the front look.

The Front BRZ headlights are different but better than the FR-S ones. It would be pretty close.

With the BRZ you would get the dual climate and push button start. The push button could be swapped out to TRD for a small price.

The Side vents are an easy swap, you could even do the carbon fiber TRD ones.

You can easily swap the suspension out for an upgraded coils or the Koni and springs setup. It would be an improvement on the Toyota setup.

As far as the airbag you can buy the 86 one for 900.

It would not be exactly the same but it would be darn close.

Considering the GT86 limited has a higher MSRP it would not be that much more than the real deal either.

The fog lights, at least the housing, is different. So you'd have to get a new housing at the very least. The FR-S doesn't have the fog light housing at all.

As for the headlights, the Toyota and Subaru have a different design layout as seen in the images in the links below:

Toyota: http://fsv-image.autoc-one.jp/images/978375/007_o.jpg

Subaru:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...1&d=1322867795

The suspension change you suggest is a modification and not a conversion.

As for everything else, you agreed with me that there's more than a bumper swap to get the BRZ converted to a Toyota 86.

Ok they're available in your zip code not mine, I still don't have the option on the configurator.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/44124586/z_Untitled.png

so there you go OP. you can cross the foglights off of the list since they're now available depending on your zip code.
