changing stitching color?
Has anyone tried changing the stitching? Also, is there any plans in future models for scion to have stitching color options to match the exterior??
|
I think most that have altered have gone for covers or just had it reupholstered entirely. However I can't imagine it would be hard to redo if you are confident with a sewing machine and a seam ripper.

As young as this sounds but "I'll have my mother do it"

HA! I had the same though when thinking about making an armrest.

The seats may be easy enough, but you have to consider that there is red stitching on the steering wheel and the leather inserts on the doors as well. Those might be more trouble than it's worth.

In my friends FR-S, everything that was red was changed to tha whiteout color to match. It is so beautiful. He didn't post up the pictures on here idk why but I don't know if he wants me to post them
|
Any idea what he paid to have it done?

Most likely a shop will have to reupholster everything. The seats are easy, since you can just get Clazzio or something and have it done however you want. The other bits not so much. Price is going to depend on the individual shop, really.
The only color that I think clashes with the red interior bits is the ultramarine. And as far as I know, short of a Release Series announcement, they won't be changing the colors of the interiors. The Greddy FRS, one of the first ones we saw, had this done. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...6&d=1325178158 |
No he keeps it clean and idk it doesn't not get dirty. The cost was around 1k I believe but man it is beautiful.

Bump for anymore information. I'm really thinking about this.
|
Thought about doing this, but for what it'd cost I will probably just leave it alone. I thought about ordering all JPM coachworks stuff with different colored stitching (as it would cost no different than ordering their stuff with red stitching) and ordering Recaro seats so there would be no need to restitch the OEM seats.

What color were you looking to have done? |
I was curious about this same thing.
Probably not a good idea, but I thought if you got an upholstery pen in black and just carefully went over the stitching you could change it to black. I can't bring myself to do this on my a brand new 2014 car though. I personally hate the red stitching/accents with a passion and can't wait until I find an alternative. |

Dead thread, but I'm restitching mine to be full purple on the interior.
Everything has been DIY up to this point. I finished the shifter, e-brake, door panels and arm rest. All that's left with red stitching is the seats and the wheel (which I'm doing now.) |

Cool! Purple! Post a few pics! I didn't like the red stitch, so I dyed mine black where I could and replaced it with black stitch in other spots. |

https://i.imgur.com/pRfkLyA.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/tDU0z6q.jpg?1 I've been changing out the stitch on all my interior, minus the seats which I plan on replacing with Katzkin. Thread ripper, two round point needles, nylon thread, glue and patience is all you need. Only have two panels to go. |

There's a full interior re-stich on the board someplace. Guy just pulled out the red and stitched through the holes a different color. It's here, need to search for it.

looking to make all the silver stitching in the 86 black. any success stories? particularly if the dye has not faded since applying?
stained by sharpie or fabricmate seem to be good marker choices. any other recommendations? |
