TF Brake Duct Cooling Kit
Here is a quick sample of the prototype brake kit that's currently in development.
No clearance issues at full lock with suspension loaded. http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server28...07.600.400.jpg You can see (....kinda) the 6061-T6 aluminum backing plate inside the brake rotor. forces cool air to pass through the rotor vents. http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server28...08.600.400.jpg From the front view with wheels straight. You can see where we had to trim some of the fender lining for the hose to pass through. http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server28...09.600.400.jpg view from under the car. See the NACA Duct. http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server28...10.600.400.jpg We could barely notice the NACA duct was even there.... http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server28...12.600.400.jpg  Hope you enjoyed.... |
Why not use the fog light areas? They seem perfect for something like this!
|
Finally... a back-plate. Keep us posted!
|
Hope there will be some type of compatibility with the BRZ bumpers!
|
Interesting setup. Please keep updating for more info!

2. Location of our current NACA duct will have more direct air flow due to the shape of the bumper. Because the bumper is slanted and the opening size would be limited in the fog light hole, you wouldn't have the same air flow as the current design. 3. By creating more openings on the front of the bumper - you create more aerodynamic drag. 4. BRZ guys can use this kit too. Quote:

any more info on the dust sheild/backin plate of this kit?
|
Definitely interested in this! ETA on production and costs?

Retail price on this complete kit is: $399.00. |
I want to see pictures of the back plate and drivers side. How are you routing it around the washer fluid tank?

I like.
Seems properly engineered amd nicely packaged, looking forward to hearing how effective it is on the track at reducing temps. :w00t: |
Nice Job, TF! I also like where this project is heading!
@TF, Do you have any ideas as to whether this kit, once fully developed, will be compatible with JDM G & RC models that come with smaller front brake set-ups? AFAIK, the front pads are interchangeable between the higher-spec (i.e., FR-S/BRZ) and lower spec cars while the rotor sizes are different. Thanks in advance. |
I love that backing plate! It's so key! This should help me get more life out of my brakes and maybe even put off the expense of a BBK for a while longer.
I don't like your front intake solution though (no offense). I hope you can sell the kit w/o that piece because I want to use something like these guys have. http://www.bulletproofautomotive.com/items/arrows4t.jpg |
I like the foglight idea, even if the user has to cut the fogs with a template... Mainly because some people plan to go F/I and need space for an intercooler ;)
I'd even consider buying these and just cutting the foglight housings myself but a template would be nice. |
would you guys sell the backing plate only?

and the backing plate would cost $$ ? Any indication would be good as I have the first race coming up in March and it has some big brake points .. one from about 260kph down to 80.. will it work with the Essex Sprint kit?
Thanks for the good work. |

Just for the backing plate for the OEM rotors - we're estimating $275 for the pair. |
I noticed a lot of break fade last hill run, so I'll be looking in to this when it comes out. How bad is the install?

Remove wheel Remove Caliper + Rotor Remove wheel speed sensor Remove hub: 4 bolts. Dust shield comes off at this point Install backing plate Install wheel speed sensor Install Rotor + Caliper Trim the inner fender lining slightly to allow room for hose to pass through. Unbolt the windshield washer tank to route hose past it. No special tools required other then your standard wrenches / sockets and a cutter of some sort. |

If you're gonna do all of that make sure you have DOT 4 Brake fluid... |

does the washer bottle get put back?

It's just very difficult to feed the hose with the washer fluid tank there. You just have to unbolt it to route the hose, and bolt it back up. Our backing plates should be arriving any day now. |
A nice option instead of the fog light piece for BRZ limited owners would be an adapter piece to screw in place (since we can unscrew the foglights themselves) to mount the ducting to, might be dandy.
Or this already an option? |
Let me know when this is available. Gtfrank
Please contact me when this is available. Gt frank.

For those that wanted the OEM fog light location ducts.... we will be offering our kit with the APR CF ducts.
Full kit will incorporate the proper parts to make it a bolt-on affair using these. FR-S http://aprperformance.com/images/products/CF-505650.jpg BRZ http://aprperformance.com/images/products/CF-812050.jpg |
Just awesome! any update?
|
@Touge Factory - Do you know if the OEM DRLs will still work with these?
