Greddy SP Elite axle back-any negatives?

I hate to start another exhaust thread but my previous request did not generate much in the way of reply's.

Looking to get an axle back for my BRZ. I'd like some more aural enjoyment. Not really interested in going the cat back route hence the axle back info request. So...anyone have an feedback on the Greddy SP Elite or other axle backs?

Thanks again!

i have SP Elite,no negatives for me :) i loved it. if u get one, dont worry if its kinda quiet, it get louder after 800+ miles.

dont be shy, get the headerback, you will love it

I've got it and love the sound and looks. It adds a deep, sporty note that's not too loud or overbearing over your music or engine noise which is exactly what I wanted. Watch through this video if you haven't already. It helped me make my decision:

I have it as well, and it is perfect for someone who wants a quiet alternative to all the super loud exhausts out there. Idle and at speed sounds like stock, until you step on it... you'll have a low grumble.

calis5nest 12-16-2012 07:49 PM

Looks great and not very loud if thats what ur looking for. Loud as F*** when i put it on sport mode (AT) tho which i love

What happens when you decide you want a catback? As far as I know nothing bolts up to the SP Elite. I have been wrong before...

It's a nice item don't get me wrong but I think it really limits your future plans unless you go custom for the mid section of the exhaust.

For $600 you can bump up a $100 more and get the Q300 which sounds great and isn't loud. You could also get the Perrin for a bit more or our V1 exhaust. Borla, Magnaflow, etc... so many options that are just not an axle back that complicate your upgrade path.

I'm just about certain that I will not think of going beyond an axle back. I know that the cat-back systems net a bit more power/torque and perhaps a better sound...but all I want is to improve the sound quality. Just hoping a Greddy Elite SP gets me a bit deeper sound with minimal or no cruise drone.

That said I really do appreciate your concerns.

Hearing both, I can tell you the Q300 from Invidia offers no more sound, or drone than stock. :) Promise. Plus gets you more than just a muffler that Greddy offers in the Elite.

Sargy 12-17-2012 08:43 AM

I heard from some member here that he is using a mid pipe to go with it.

as long as its bolts up in the stock form that Greddy uses, it should be fine with anything. Correct me if im wrong.

Get it OP, the axle back should be amazing, heard the exhaust versions on NA motors and turbo'ed:drool: its like a quiet rocket.

Im trying to order it within 2 weeks time.

+1. It is a great exhaust!! I love mine.

ngabdala 12-17-2012 11:26 PM

Is the Q300 the most silent exhaust you have seen other than stock?

Got this a few days ago. Super easy to install sounds great. My wife drives this car as well so its a good compromise.

DarkCard 12-27-2012 04:25 PM

Just installed mine im very happy

Pretty much. Greddy elite is about the same, but with the Q300 you get more piping, and the ability to upgrade later with front pipes and etc. Again I have not seen anything besides the stock set-up that bolts to the Greddy Elite. Not saying the Greddy Elite is bad, it just narrows the upgrade options if you want to go full cat back.

Any issues with droning when it's in Drive or Sport mode with the AT?

rikdrt1 01-06-2013 12:13 AM

it's perfect . noooo issues

calis5nest 01-06-2013 01:37 AM

^ like he said no issues

We had sold over 40+ of these exhaust systems not one problem. you can also add a front pipe and get a mid pipe made at a local exhaust shop.

does greddy offer any mid pipes or anything to add onto the Elite? if we get the SP Elite is there a way to add a midpipe that Greddy makes as well?

victorb 03-09-2013 11:35 AM

I am from the Philippines. I just installed the greddy sp elite 4 days ago. And I couldn't ask for more. Sounds perfect, looks great. Always looking forward to cold starts. Zero drone, sound bassy on low rpm and idle.

One thing greddy missed out. Making the tiPs blue/ burnt look

Will be installing the resonated front pipe from hks or Invidia soon. Once done I will be doing a dyno :)

SubaSteve 03-09-2013 01:27 PM

Don't let anyone talk you out of getting this. The look and sound are amazing compared to other axlebacks out there. Most front pipes and overpipes are designed with the stock exhaust in mind so you won't have issues there either.

m.wood0213 03-09-2013 04:05 PM

Problem with the Axel-back is the $$$. cheapest ive found is right at $600, which for about $80 you can get the full cat back thats not loud, easy for DD, the Q300. Im stuck in the same boat.

so im getting the sp elite saturday so if i decide that i want to get a perrin midpipe or overpipe for example, with me getting the SP Elite i wont be able to becuse it either wont fit or wont work with it ? i like the look sound and price of the SP Elite so in the future if i want to go ahead and get the mid pipe over pipe headers etc i wont be able to because it will limit my future mods?

BMWDavid 03-10-2013 02:44 PM

Hey guys,

Still on the sideline here. I've not bought anything yet but just about ready tp pull the trigger on the Greddy SP Elite.

I'm positive I will not be doing anything more such as mid pipes or down pipes in the future. Just want to have it sound a bit deeper and maybe just a bit more vocal when on the gas.

You can use midpipe/overpipe combos with this exhaust I already have the midpipe and will soon install an overpipe.

Which midlife are you getting? How will I know that a certain brand will fit like if I get the Perrin midlife and over pipe?

What Mid-Pipe did you find that fit the SP elite?

Maybe you mean front pipe? As far as I know there is no mid-pipe that will fit the SP elite.

SubaSteve 03-11-2013 02:06 PM

Meant front pipe. I doubt you'd really get much more from replacing the midpipe if anyone made one.

Currently running motivs frontpipe with my spelite.

pm the vendor in the "group buy" forum. i believe it is around $500-550 shipped depending on your location.

Cadenz 03-16-2013 09:15 AM

So I understand that the sp elite has no drone at cruise or idle, but can anyone comment on any noticeable drone when, for instance, going up a hill in 4th or when selecting Sport in autos? Also can any owners comment on the loudness of the axleback vs some distinguishable exhaust notes, say a 350/370z or a 335i or STi? Does the exhaust drown out the engine during acceleration? Thanks!

FR-S Matt 03-16-2013 09:23 AM

Should really just get a Nameless Axleback at that price. Much higher quality and a lot of customized options available for what you plan to do with your full exhaust.

86 FRS 03-16-2013 09:47 AM

i think WORKS midpipe fits on the SP Elite. i'll be getting it soon.

Sphirit 09-04-2013 05:18 AM

I don't like axle-back that are too loud at low rpms and then mysteriously get quiet at high rpm.
Does this happen with this exhaust?

Found this, sounds scary close to stock unless 1) my speakers and or the mic recording it are not very good or 2) this is pre break-in. I want to believe this thing is louder in person even with stock everything else :iono:

Chef 09-04-2013 05:41 PM

I was thinking of getting the sp elite soon and getting a berk or perrin catted front pipe later down the road. I have no real plans of upgrading a lot of things on the car. I'd like to hear it when its WOT.

antoic 09-06-2013 02:36 PM

I carefully compared the quality, fitment, and sound of the SP elite and the Nameless 2.5" with 5" mufflers. I chose to go Nameless and have no regrets. Although it took 3 weeks to build and deliver it, I installed it in 20 minutes and took off down the road. No drone, not too loud, sounds like a Maserati.

ericmpena 01-22-2014 09:04 PM

I'm about to pull the trigger on a Greddy SP Elite for $500 shipped. Before I do though I just want to double check everyones input since it's been a while.
Any other comments from those of you who have owned this already?
Did you end up getting rid of it or keeping it?
How satisfied are you still months after your purchase?

I'm confused, if all the aftermarket overpipes bolt on at stock locations (since most don't require some extra piping to join stock or aftermarket exhausts) how could this axelback possibly complicate his exhaust system?
Nameless kept the stock mid-pipe since they found no real gains to be had with their axelback.
