VPS

Hi, anyone covered the front bumper and lights with vps or similar protection?
Just wondering what the cost is and if you could recommend a place in job. My car already has a few chips ... Need to prevent more.

Howzit, I was going to paste a thread on this as I got the quote and looked at it when purchasing and thought R5000, steep and opted to leave it, which I regret today as I have stone chips from a truck and due to the 86 being so low, every stone hits the bumper or even bonnet.
Just deciding if i am going to fit a aero kit And if not will re spray the bumper and fit VPS.
Anyone buying new, spend the money and get it done, would be my recommendation.
Ask SAV to send you pics he did bumper, lights and bonnet, could not tell there was film.

Yep, I've had the following covered in VPS:
-Full bonnet
-Full fenders
-Front bumper
-Headlights
-Indicators & Fogs
-Mirrors
-Top part of rear bumper

It was done by VPS Edenvale at a cost of R7500. I know it's not cheap but it's definitely worth every cent. I had it o n my previous car as well and it looked brand new when I sold it. It takes a pretty serious stone to leave a mark on the VPS so you can only imagine what sort of damage it would have done if it wasn't for the VPS.

I could post some pics but it would be pointless since you wouldn't be able to see that it was there. ;)

I'm really considering it - the black shows every bit of sand that has passed it...

sieglapj 11-25-2012 06:29 AM

Does it shine when it is washed like a normal car, or is it dull and lifeless, like a plastic layer over one's car?

sav 11-25-2012 06:31 AM

Nope it shines and you can polish and wax it just like normal paint.

sav 11-25-2012 08:34 AM

See if you can notice the VPS:

sieglapj 11-25-2012 01:38 PM

Ja, can't c it. But that blows the money I had saved up for the audio upgrade. All about priorities?

sav 11-25-2012 01:39 PM

Yep, easier to sort sound out later than a bunch of chips.

You could go cheap route, bubble wrap.... LOL :bonk:

sav 11-27-2012 02:21 AM

ROTFLOL! That should do the trick.

I just got a quote for R 18000. What a rip off. I should log a complaint to the consumer forum. People can be such chancers.

sav 11-28-2012 11:41 PM

Yikes! From where and for which panels?

mckobus 12-05-2012 04:06 AM

:bump:

Also considering VPS.

Where to go?
Where not to go?
Which panels to cover?
Recommended price?
Alternative to VPS?

Ryan86 12-05-2012 04:33 AM

Just had a verbal quote given to me.
Bumper
Bonnet
Side mirrors
Strip on boot
R17000 to R18000 k

With out a doubt anyone getting a new car, the R5000 for the bumper should be first added option extra.
My bumper is chipped badly in 3 months of use and I kick myself for thinking I could better use the cash.

Re spray and VPS is now R7k, with the risk of poor paint match.

sav 12-05-2012 04:50 AM

WOW! They're taking a big chance quoting R17k!!!!

I've used VPS Midrand and VPS Edenvale before. They both do great work.

Go for full panels else it'll look bad.

As Iv'e said, I've had the following done:
-Full bonnet
-Full bumper
-Full fenders (excl the bit by the 86 emblem)
-Headlights
-Indicator & fog lights
-Mirrors
-Top strip on the rear bumper

It was around R7500 if I remember correctly. VPS uses 3M film which is quality stuff. There may be cheaper alternatives but it would probably go yellow within a year or 2.

sav 12-05-2012 09:11 AM

Forgot to mention - had the same done on my previous car but it had a shorted bonnet and I didn't do full fenders. That cost around R6000(VPS Midrand), so the R7500 at VPS Edenvale wasn't some special price or anything, it's what it's supposed to cost.

R17k really is a ripoff and if it's a VPS franchise they should be reported.

Agreed, however there 2 of us now from Gauteng and KZN with roughly same figures, so maybe someone should get a quote from your recommended and let's pose the question why such a substantial price difference.

sav 12-05-2012 09:32 AM

Good idea. I mean if Midrand and Edenvale are charging the same then surely the rest should be the same. It would be funny if the 2 branches with the crazy quotes belonged to the same person.

sav 12-05-2012 09:32 AM

BTW
You could probably get the whole car vinyl wrapped for close to R20k.
