http://ichitaka05.files.wordpress.co...s-2013_054.jpg

Pretty much title says it all, how do you remove this vent? Im trying to paint, and i have honestly looked all over the forums and googled a bunch.. trust. Some say you need heat guns, some say u have take the whole door.. but im pretty sure its more simple but please can someone clarify this for me? Trying to be responsicle and doing my research before messing up and paying a good 300$ replacement for my impatience.. thank you!

Pictures would be best, but text is fine as well, once i get this i'll post a DIY for all the other noobs like me!

-thanks again!

open the hood there are clips on the other side. whole vent part will come out.

I'm pretty sure was going to try this weekend.

I'm just removing the vent off the car to paint the fender black

shishand 10-20-2012 04:20 PM

I'm going to plastic dip the whole thing other than the badge and see if I like the contrast of back and blue

It really doesn't need any.. its too simple

darnbry 10-24-2012 02:17 PM

I think he means how to remove the fender badge and install a new one not the whole fender vent. To remove the badge you need to use goo gone, spray it on the emblem wait 20-30 mins use a dental floss on the edges of the emblem do a zig-zag motion with the dental floss and it should come off.

xcelir8brz 10-30-2012 03:52 PM

What's behind the 86 emblem? Are there any holes or is it just flat?

theres 2 small holes to plug in the 86 emblems. its easy to take off just use the floss like it said above and zigzag em. and put 3m double tape on bfore u put it back. boom looks like new..

gmookher 10-30-2012 08:35 PM

to remove the whole white plastic part

nothing to do on the inside of the hood, leave that alone!

just pry from outside, start with the end towards the front of the car first, thats how I did mine

TheProspect 11-20-2012 08:45 PM

So If I wanted to take the whole panel off and not just the emblem is there clips at all or just 3m tape to keep it stuck on??!?!

Dave-ROR 11-21-2012 04:44 PM

There are 6 clips, 3 visible under the hood and 3 in the door opening/behind the fender as well as the tape.

So is it easiest to try and release the 6 clips somehow? Then pull the side vent out?

gmookher 12-09-2012 06:26 PM

I just removed mine by pulling from the outside

Thanks. start from the side by the door and work your way to the front.
so it looks like there's only tape that runs vertically along the door.

Why don't you buy the carbon fiber ones those would look nice I'm still debating to do it or not decisions r so hard

New factory fender "vents" should already come ready to go on the car with adhesive already where it needs to be. That's how my TRD ones came, though in different places from the normal GT86 "vents" because of it's different design. I actually removed the stock "vents" from front to back...was pretty easy actually. Taped around the "vent" edge and used a flat wooden tool to lift of the front leading edge so I could use my fingers, then just pried it up all the way to the back where the adhesive was and pulled it off - the clips are designed to pull out with a tug. Hardest part is getting all the adhesive off the car...

Fender with the "vent" off...

Back of the TRD garnish showing adhesive (better than stock because they have adhesive on the front leading edge) and clip locations...

Clean the fender very well and dry then pull off the covering for the adhesive strips on the "vent" and just push it straight into the fender to set in place.

Great video! Helped me out a lot so thank you for making it. :thanks:

Installed mine yesterday with no problems.

Whiteout (37J) TRD fins installed

Thanks to the DIY instructions in this thread I was able to remove and install with ease. The most annoying part was removing and cleaning up the factory double-sided tape/glue before putting on the new fins.

Bumping an old thread.

Does anyone have a pic of how big the 2 holes are behind the 86 badge ? I want to delete that.

It's a hole and a sloted hole...picture of drivers side (slot to the front of car, passenger side is opposite with slot to the back):

Thanks for this pic. I've been wanting to remove that emblem since I took delivery of mine, and unfortunately my suspicions are confirmed. If someone were to make a pre-painted, smoothened out panel, I'd pay money for that. Not a lot, but some...

Worstenemy453 09-11-2015 07:21 PM

I was going to dip mine in carbon fiber but I need smooth. I don't feel like paying for the carbon ones
