How many of you plan to keep your FRS for a LONG time?
I'm talking 5~10 years down the line and laughing at those annoying teenagers nagging you to sell your car (to them). Edit: I just picked up my MT FRS today and you guys were right. Driving manual does feel better. I've always been a pro-automatic, zealous technology-first, I.T. geek who always thought everything automated and calculated down to the millisecond was better. But now I understand why people drive manual; I feel more connected with my car. |
this is such a nice and fun car to drive, so it'll be a keeper for a while to come :D
yup! count me in for the long term!
car is a blast to drive every day! |
I plan to keep it for at least 5 years. Possibly more if nothing better comes along (including a better FR-S/86).
Keeping it to at least 200,000,000 miles.
If it ever gets delivered probably 18 months or so.
Till I die if I can make the payments, or if a miracle occurs and someone makes a rwd 2300 lb doublewishbone rock solid turbo 4 coupe for under $20k.
Basically an interation of three cars: 1. Eg Civic Coupe (double wishbone), 2300lb 2. Focus 40+ mpg turbo inline 4 (ecoboost or Chevy's version in the Sonic) 3. old AE86, RWD + LSD All for under $20k. Ain't gonna happen. I think this FR-S is a lifer. |
23000lbs?!

Lets face it there ain't going to be an other RWD coupe built like this under 2700lbs until the IIHS lobbiests are locked up in a Fed penaterary, ain't gonna happen. Hell this car was supposed to be under 2500lbs, luckily the design team got smart about it and used the regulations to stiffen the chasis rather than band-aide it. There is a point where you build a light weight car, or a flimsy car, or just invest big buckss and make a 635 BMW, there is a give and take. I think this FT86 got it right. |
How long I keep it will depend on a couple of things. One, how reliable and trouble free it becomes will have a lot to do with how long I keep it and the other thing is what changes/improvements they make over the coming years. About time Toyota (Scion) comes out with something I can't live without I'll trade my present FR-S in for that.
:burnrubber: |
Around 100,000 miles ill let it go, sell it cheap to some young kid so he can learn what it means to drive a car. Not use it as a appliance but use it at you would anything else you love, with care and passion.
Am I the only one who has a life time power train warranty? That is reason enough to me.
Last car I owned that I loved this much I regretted selling it every day since. Don't think I will be doing that with this car.
not for sale
Definitely gonna keep mine for the long haul. I'm hoping I won't have to make it my daily driver for the winter so I can keep the mileage to under 10k per year, and keep it in tip top shape for at least a decade!

good for about 5 years same as the factory drivetrain warranty. after that, the stealership offering it will be gone, and with it, the warranty! c'mon! economy! |
sounds like you have lost all faith in our country.
no! just in the "stealership!" offering the "lifetime" warranty!
I would like to keep mine for a long while. I've always had a problem holding on to cars though. I think 3 years is the longest I"ve been able to keep one.

If it is from any other place it probably isn't worth the power its written on. It will cost more than the car is worth to have a lawyer enforce the "warranty" by the time you need it. Even when F*rd had 100k mile powertrain warranties they were pretty useless unless you paid the stealership for every stupid scheduled maintenance. You couldn't change your own oil, etc. Very few people actually came out ahead, like negligible amount of people (most were part of the F*rd organization.) Now with logs in the ECU tracking how fast you go, redline, etc. When you really look at a "power train warranty" what it comes down to is if there is a design flaw (like a 95-99 Mistu Eclipse) you are pretty much going to have to deal with it on your own. If there isn't a design flaw you didn't need the powertrain warranty to begin with. IMHO the only long term warrantie long worth the cost are the emmsions warranties. Just saying, take care of your FT86/BRZ/FRS instead of banking on a piece of paper. |
Keeping it for 3 years. Then upgrade to a "Supra" (if it happens and is under 100k) or else a Cayman will have to do

i have not looked into it,but i'll bet it it is only vaild IF the car is serviced at THAT particular dealer chain. |
This car will be in the classic collection. One of the best design and engineering car on the street today. Just drive it to the max then get another last model special edition and garage it like Ferarri :)
Until it dies. Then I'll put another engine in, and maybe until it dies again.

In California "lifetime warranty" = 7 years typically.
No way I'd pay this much for a car and search as long as I did if this car wasn't everything I wanted.
I kinda see my FR-S as take two of the Miata I had for 2 and a half years. I sold it a couple months ago after taking it from stock to unrecognizable. When I moved back from Guam and sold the Miata I thought of all the plans for it that had gone unfulfilled. I kept telling myself if I had like another couple months, another year.... Well, I got at least 6 with the FR-S, so no problems with that here. lol |
10 years. by then it will be rusty and crusty and please dear lord, there will be a new cool car to buy.
I'll keep it until it dies. People say "oh, you'll say that now, but down the road...". So be it. For now I'm going to say I'm keeping it until it dies. I treat it really well and it's a weekend cruiser. When that gets old, it'll be a Spring/Summer/Fall daily driver and when that gets older, it's going to be tracked. In 5-10 years when something good comes out, this car will be saved for weekend track runs and my new vehicle as a weekend cruiser or good weather dd.
Simple. 'till i die. Or 'till i'm damn broke :P
once the STi BRZ comes out, i'm sure many will upgrade
I use to say that I would keep a car for several years... But that has never happened, maybe because I'm a bit spoiled... I admit.
I plan to realistically keep my FR-S for perhaps 2-3 years, or until the powertrain mileage warranty is up (60k miles). However, I will most likely trade-in for an updated version of the FR-S at that time... Unless I happen to have a terrible experience in owning this car, I'll go with something else... So far @ 5k miles, the car has been above my expectations. |
Im keeping my BRZ forever.... well... till it dies. Might get a 3rd car in 5 years or so. But my BRZ only has less than 2k miles on it XD
Probably a very long time. I said that with my last car ('08 Evo) but wanted to go in a different direction. Ideally I'd keep this forever and maybe grab another, better version down the line to stow away... I'm sure I'll need something with 4 doors eventually too.
Add me up! First owned car and will be a keeper! Car is like no other car out there!:party0030::burnrubber:
I will probably keep mine until they come out with a TRD or STi version.
I'm thinking by that time I will have a 2nd car as a daily driver so I can keep the miles off of her. |
I rarely keep a car longer than a year or so but this one will be with me for a long time, i absolutely love it.
Im keeping mine till it dies at the track!! Hopefully not anytime soon.
Keeping mine for now.. until a better FRS/BRZ comes out so I can buy it in stick cause I drive auto right now :(
Give it to my son in 15 years time.
