snorkel removal?
Has anyone taken off there intake snorkel when you got an aftermarket intake?
|
Yup, I did after I installed my airaid intake.. was kinda troublesome to take out the snorkel without taking out the front bumper down completely .. u can refer to this DIY post on how to take it out

i just took mine out but i dont have an aftermarket intake but i will be building my own and will probably be done by fri. I will say that the stock snorkel is way too small and not sure how the car even breaths better with it on. It was a pain in the ass to remove but i took of the rubber piece holding the bumper and pulled the bumper back just enough to unscrew the snorkel. I then removed the front park of the intake box so i can have a better grab at the snorkel. U have to have the snorkel at a certain angle and u have to use a little force to really get out tho. It was a pain in the a$$ without removing the bumper

Without an aftermarket intake you lose power when you remove the snorkel and leave stock. I'm on my phone now so I can't post the link but just search it. I took it out once i installed my Airaid intake, it was obnoxiously hard to remove but nothing like these damn side markers.

Ok so earlier on in the day i logged some data with the snorkel on and off..i drove around my block, hopped on the highway and did a full speed run and got off next exit and pulled up in front of my building. put the snorkel back on let the car cool down for about 30 mins and repeated the same run. Not sure why the pics on my phone keep coming up corrupted when i upload to pc but ill find a way to post them up. Without the snorkel my cars highest temp was 123.8 and lowest was 78.8 with the snorkel on my highest temp was 123.2 and lowest was 89.6..i do have an hks intake filter but it seems like without the snorkel it will breath better during wide open throttle but at idle it will get hotter..for now i have the snorkel off cuz its a b**** to take off and put back on

the fix is to buy an intake that places the filter away from the motor. you're going to want some kind of fresh air ducting. otherwise, all that warm air from the motor is not helping.

Why don't you guys just pull a Ken Gushi and drive w/o a front bumper?
|
Nah I broke two clips :/ not even worried about it. Want the clear markers as soon as these damn bills give me a break haha

Just got my intake piping.. wasnt sure what type of aluminum to go with but i went with 6061-T grade. Tomorrow ill get the pipes cut and start working on the build hoping to be done by next week.

So i decided to put the stock filter back in and while its 2.0gs lower than the hks filter at wot for some reason it idles way better with the stock filter and it feels more responsive..weird! wot on the hks i got 148.7 wot on stock is 146.8. this is with the snorkel cut

I removed my snorkel to let the injen intake breath a lil better, runs a lil more aggressive than with it on, or maybe its in my mind but does feel a bit better, on hot days it drags but right now with it being 60 some degrees outside it feels WAYY better.
I had a Naca airduct on my integra, maybe ill do an experiment with a hole on the bumper and get the thing dyno tuned something like this http://www.evo-r.net/product/CAI/tube/index.htm |

Intake stuff is here going to start the painted today and im going to use a flex pipe for now as a fresh air scoop until i think of something clever. I think it looks pretty freaking good...the paint in the pic looks brown but its my sucky phone camera but its sunblaze orange. What do u guys think. The pipe on the side was my prototype piping so just showing you the color of the paint |
