Great Video!

I am definitely doing this same setup >.>
I do want to see if I can find a cheaper alternative to that stereo unit though to save a little cost.

phenom86 09-24-2012 02:31 PM

So i've completed my tablet install because of your hard work.. thats again for doing all the R&D, just tweaked it a bit on my end.

I was able to find a mini USB charger that charges at 3.1amp which is for the ipads and it works fine with the nexus 7 tablets.. i dont need an inverter in my glovebox

Dezoris 09-24-2012 06:34 PM

This will also charge it, if you are looking for a part number:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

The 3.1a is good too, do you have a part number?

a 3.1m mini is a dual USB port charger.. one is 2.1 and other is 1.0 which i can still charge another thing like a cell.. but its charging, but when you use an inverter is your always "awake" does it dim?

Synack 09-25-2012 12:25 PM

Hmmmm I may end up selling my BeSpoke for this. I do have a Nexus 7 but I'd probably snag up a Galaxy Tab or something that has LTE.

Because if you have data, there are multiple audio apps such as SiriusXM that you can install and get radio services.

Not to mention GOOGLE FRIGGIN MAPS.

ML 12-07-2012 12:08 PM

I don't understand where you are getting the ELA UI. Is this something you made? Google search produced little.

ST225 12-07-2012 11:58 PM

Just wondering when and if your likely to release ELA on to the Play Store?

Do you have any pictures of how you made the bottom 1/2 din?

Badass

x2! I want to run my single din for the SQ but want the tablet + torque. This would be perfect aside from ... can you get CDs in without hitting the shifter?

F1point4 12-08-2012 04:55 PM

Too bad the Nexus 7 doesn't support MHL or we could get audio through USB. (MHL to HDMI to SPDIF)

Yobiwan 12-08-2012 06:40 PM

CD problem

I use iphone for music source. so CD inserting was not my priority.
.
when shiter is in 1,3,5,or neutral , cant' CD in . but shiter is in 2,4,6 u can use CD.

Perfect! I don't use CDs often but at the very least being able to is a huge thing, even if it involves moving the shifter down to do it, thats good enough for me!

Do you have any other pictures from the build to post up? Maybe to a little write up, I'm sure many members would greatly appreciate it!

actually . lower place is very small. & real problem is that some strong steel
frame(?) is blocking inside . So if you want normal size 1 din receiver , you must cut that off. that one of above picture is normal size receicer so I cut some steell inside. It was very very very painful job.. car & my heart is hurting... =(. I can't recommend this style.

BTW there is Small size( 3/5 size depth) media receiver from SONY.. DSX-A30 ( it is asian name, I dont know it is available in USA ). & someone of my country
use A30 for lower place install. & He said that was piece of cake, no need to cut anything. like bolt on. ..
but it's media receiver so you can't use CD .

sorry for bad english =). I hope this helpful

pheoxs 12-08-2012 07:24 PM

@Dezoris any chance you're still going to do the DIY write up?

Dezoris 12-08-2012 07:27 PM

Yobiwan this is excellent work. My final install is very similar to yours. Here is my demo video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSA0_...ature=youtu.be

I plan on doing a final write up. But dont have all the small details finished yet sorry.

Awesome thanks, I'm mainly curious how it boots up on ignition, is your charger tied into switched power and that boots up the screen? Similar to the screen pops on when you connect the charger.

Dezoris 12-08-2012 07:49 PM

The simple answer is the charger is using the cars 12v in the glove box. Only supplies power on ignition.
In developer mode on the tablet you set, keep screen on when charging. So as soon as the tablet gets power it turns on. When no power it turns off the screen.

Yruyur 12-08-2012 08:30 PM

Fantastic job!

It looks like there is no hands free functionality. Is that correct?

Sent from my flux capacitor using Taptalk

Dezoris 12-09-2012 12:49 AM

There is hands free through the head unit. Pair up the phone and it over rides the tablet during calls like any normal system.

Yruyur 12-09-2012 01:40 AM

Can you do video of the dialing, making and receiving calls. Does it use the phonebook on from the phone?

Yeah I can show you some of that tomorrow.

FYI ELA is the UI I designed for another car on Windows CE and I am now working on it for Android.

Should be on the Play Store in the near future.

mechaghost 12-09-2012 02:25 AM

I love this thread! Good job on the DIY and the install.

You can hook up a USB-DAC (Custom Kernel) but the next issue you stumble on will be charging the device. I'm still reading up on that bit before I go ahead.

MaXimus 12-09-2012 03:57 AM

Do you happen to have some more photo's of the single din installation. What exactly did you cut and how you did the facia?

Cheers,

Sam

chate 12-09-2012 01:12 PM

amazing, i wish i had the expertise to do this for myself! Appreciate your effort and basically you're my hero OP!

Sorry, I didn't take any picture inside during installation .
There are two point blocking inside. left one is easy one but right one is thick & hard to remove .

That fascia adaptor is just thick paper of desk calendar.

I cut the paper & attach 3M carbon sheet to it. It looks cooler than I thought . =)

Is there any chance I could get a reply from you to the PM, I sent you a bit back. Even if its to say no thanks.

I have some ideas for infotainment UI/UX, that is not present in your design and I am seriously looking for someone to partner with on the creation of an app like this.

Here is a mockup of what I currently have running on my tablet.

I pulled apart the center stack last night and had a look at that metal bar. No way I'm going to go and cut that, you my friend have serious balls.

I'm going to put together a new thread with my install. Still having an issue deciding on headunit since they are so expensive in comparison to ordering online. Only problem is if I order from US, I'm pretty sure FM radio frequency not going to be in the same range.

Mind posting a picture of said metal bar? I was hesitant to mount the single din down there when he said it involved cutting metal. Curious to see what exactly is in the way. Thanks

1strwdcar 12-13-2012 12:20 AM

The metal bar prolly helps support the dash. Should be ok to trim it. Idk if i would severe it. This is vert sweet build!
