TE37: +45 more convace than +40???
 

Hey,

I have a question for the wheel experts, I'm looking to purchase a set of TE37 in 18x9.5, but not sure about the offset.

From the pics I see, the +45 offset seem to be more concave then +40 offsets, but from what I understand the lower the offset, the more concavity there should be. From the pic below, the +40 offset seems like it's a flat face.

Yes, those are different types of TE37's. The Concave versions are newer, I think they are called SL's. Can anyone confirm? The bottom ones are just normal TE37's.

correct, SL faces are more concave..

I see some sponsors sell TE37SL in 18x9.5 +40, so I should expect the +40 offset be more concave than +45 given they are all SLs?

I believe there are different faces volk wheels. There are ones that are flat looking and more concave. Mainly for clearing the bbk.

The 18x9.5 +40 5x100 has the same concave, Rays made that spec for Mackin Industries to sell to the US Market.

The TE37 Super Lap 18x9.5 +45 5x100 is concaved, also available in 17", its made for the BRZ/86, the regular TE37 is flat until you go 9.5 offset 28+ or 9.0 +22 but its only in 5x114.3 pcd

Concavity is not only dependent on offset, but width as well. Backpad thickness matters too.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS GENERAL INFORMATION, IF MACKIN DECIDED TO MAKE A NEW MOLD FOR EVERY SINGLE OFFSET THEN WHOOP-DEE-DO, I STAND CORRECTED, BUT THIS IS HOW IT USUALLY TURNS OUT FOR HIGH-VOLUME WHEEL MANUFACTURERS

not necessarily. a wheel manufacturer will usually make molds for only a few faces at each diameter. then they will use those faces for a range of offsets, adjusting the backspacing to fine-tune the offset throughout the range.

basic example: 18" diameter wheel

8.5 width with a HIGH offset gets face 1 (flat)
8.5 width with a LOW offset gets face 2 (barely concave)
9.5 width with a HIGH offset gets face 2
9.5 width with a LOW offset gets face 3 (concave)
and so on...

so an 8.5 wheel with a +40 offset and an 8.5 wheel with a +45 offset would use the same face, they just mill an extra 5mm off the mounting surface to adjust between +40 and +45..

so for your situation, it is doubtful to me that volk would make a completely new face for the 5mm difference between +40 and +45 at the same width.

From what I was told ..

18x9.5 +40 TE37SL 5x100 made for BRZ / FRS will be using the 18x9.5 +22 mold which are the more concave one.

The front will be 18x8.5 +35 and the rear will be 18x9.5 +40

That's ur only option as of now. 18x8.5 +35 will be flat face.

Although they do make other offset, but only in 5x114.3

Basically TE37SL options are

18x8.5 +33 or 18x9.5 +40

NOTE: 18x9.5 +40 will clear STI brembo caliper in the front.

These are sizes of TE37 SuperLap for the BRZ,FR-S and 86.

Where can THESE te37 SL's be found/distributed (w/ these size/bolt specs)?I have a hard time locating... and do they require the use of any spacers are you aware of? Thanks

You can try us. We are one of the Volk Racing distributor.

The bad thing about Volk Racing, they only tell you on paper about the offset and the amount of concave so I have to spend a lot of time to find out :(

I don't really think these rims look quite right with a concave face. I've never been a big fan, but they look kind of broken in concave fitment.

all the other sheets with this pic do not shot the te37 with a 5x100 bolt pattern option with 9 1/2 " where did you get it at?

It's not the normal TE37, its TE37SL sizes found on Rays Japanese website.

so i suck at reading charts. but will the 18x9.5 +40 clear brembo brake kits? also anyone run these have any fitment issues? what tire size do you recommend?
