Mid-Atlantic Chat Thread

Figured we could start up a thread to keep us entertained during the day. My name is Josh, I'm from the VB Area and actually sling Toyotas and Scions for a living while going to school.

The previous car I owned, there was a MidAtl Chat Thread and 8-10 of us chatted in it daily and began to become a little family. Lets see how it goes.

Flat Black VW 08-28-2012 11:07 PM

Hows it going. My names Will and I am frequently bored at work during the day so hopefully this will give me something to do!

I work at a car audio shop in tysons corner, you can see our website and some of our work in my sig. If anyone needs some work or has some questions about car audio stuff I would be glad to share my input.

Let's see where this thread goes.

MVJ1975 08-28-2012 11:13 PM

Sounds cool. I'm Mark, and I work as an IT Specialist for the World Bank in DC.

clevrname 08-29-2012 07:54 AM

It's off to a start! On a brighter note, It seems the FRS is becoming a little more plentiful. I actually managed to get a Raven AT last allocation and still haven't been able to sell it, should be here tomorrow. This will be the first one I have coming in that is not pre sold.

You guys done anything to your cars yet?

Sargy 08-29-2012 08:20 AM

Got 4300k HID bulbs in, led plates, waiting for Grimspeed relocation plate in the mail. getting clear bra this weekend and opti coated.

Thinking about getting a get together in the next week or two for the first official big frs meet.

Tbxgz 08-29-2012 10:49 AM

Question for you guys. Did you guys mount your front plates? I'm seriously thinking about taking mine off.. I've heard multiple ppl say that front plates are rarely enforced around MD.

MVJ1975 08-29-2012 10:59 AM

Yes, I've got mine mounted. It's down in the grille area, so the bumper itself is undrilled/unmarked.

I've got the Beatsonic antenna on mine, and will eventually have a FiveAxis spoiler (whenever it feels like showing up, that is)....

I've got the grimspeed kit but I haven't installed it yet. I'm going to wait until it becomes an issue before I put it on.

I had a car for two years that didn't have a front plate and I got pulled over twice for it. Actually twice in the same week. Once I got a ticket and the second time I got a warning. Neither time did they actually give me a repair order though so I never bothered to put it on.

Flat Black VW 08-29-2012 11:39 AM

Ive been pulled over a few times for no front plate in my last car but it also had A LOT of stuff done to it so I think they just liked harassing me. For my BRZ I just zip tied mine to the grills below the mouth guard. No holes drilled and I can remove it easily if I want to.

So far I have a Red Perrin Crank pulley, oil change, back-up camera connected to the factory NAV, NAV/DVD bypass, and new door speakers. Ill be doing the dash speakers and an amp pretty soon.

clevrname 08-29-2012 11:42 AM

Vary Nice.

And now begins my 9 hours of awesomeness at work.

I've got the Grimmspeed relocator and I'm on the list for that special edition oil cap. My Nameless exhaust will be here tomorrow, I get off at 6 and cannot WAIT to install it. I really want the 5Axis Spoiler I just don't feel like waiting for it. I'm entirely too impatient for that. Hell, waiting the three weeks for the Nameless has all but killed me. Signed up for AutoX Sunday, this will be my second time running it, so I hope to do well....

ap5512 08-29-2012 11:44 AM

Hey guys I'm in Leesburg working in Ashburn @ Verizon as a IT Auditor...I'm going to try and come up to the meets (Chick-Fila I think) someday...

I am also looking for a viable option for the front license plates...i really don't want to drill any holes but my bigger complaint is how I just don't want plates in the front..really messes up the look. I am currently running no plates but hopefully I don't get pulled over...

xjohnx 08-29-2012 12:16 PM

IT Manager in Richmond. My nameless exhaust should be here either today or tomorrow. Already have the Visconti Stage 1 ecutek reflash.

stoked for the exhaust.

BTW- in addition to working right around the corner from you I've passed your car parked at a house just off 123 in Vienna. GREAT looking STI in the driveway.

How did you get the NAV/DVD bypass to work? I am not good with wiring, but have wanted to do this since I got the car a couple months ago.

Yeah he actually works here at Hurley's also. We also have a 2011 SWP WRX here...

All of us used to own VWs and have since moved into subarus.

I posted a basic write-up here:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15239

this shows the back-up camera and the nav bypass.

The nav bypass is done with a switch the way I did it, basically I grounded the e-brake wire and then spliced the VSS and put a switch on it. I have had the VSS switched off since I did it a little more than a week ago and have not had problems with the nav being able to follow me.

And all of them were saying that you can get away without running a plate. No. I didn't have my car for a month before I was pulled over for it, and 2 weeks later they hit me again for it. The last thing you need it to be pulled over for something stuipd and then they can harrass you for other little things.

Sargy 08-30-2012 07:18 AM

Another day at work anticipating a clear bra install :D

I'm delivering an FRS Saturday that just had clear bra installed yesterday, the front bumper and fenders that is. I didn't realize we can't wash the car for 7 days after installation , so now I get to deliver a Black FRS that is currently clean, but if the monsoon weather keeps up, it will look like crap.

camelflage 08-30-2012 10:31 AM

so im trying to decide if i should sell or part my IS300 back to stock and get an FR-S to mod and boost.. or just boost the IS300 and get like an outback or something to replace my current beater..

:iono:

Yeah people on the internet love to hate. I couldn't care less, I like it and its not a permanent mount or anything so if I want to remove it or move it Its very easy to do.

Best part is most the people bitching about it being off center also tell me I should get the grimmspeed mount... which is off center...:iono:

xjohnx 08-30-2012 12:29 PM

no front plate since 06. no problems. i do have a grimmspeed mount on the way, not sure if i'm going to use it though

Alex in Columbia MD, Sales/User support for a tech company. I have my FR-S on order and I already ordered my Grimmspeed front relocater. Even if you can get away without it, the offset plate kinda brings it's own cool look.

Can't wait for my car to come in. I ordered about 2 weeks ago. How long do you guys think the wait is running nowadays? I hear some people are getting them around a month after ordering.

Sargy 08-30-2012 04:36 PM

Got mine 2 1/2 weeks after waiting.

I ordered one Sunday for a Customer, it's here today. I'm trying to get the reputation for the fastest turn around time.

Wow, that is very fast. Any insight you can give me on how it works from the inside? I emailed my sales guy and he said they ordered it, but no other updates as of yet. Man I can't wait!

With Scion there is a once a month allocation. The last day of the prior month, a sales manager goes and submits requests for what he needs. His number 1 requests should be anything that he has ordered. They also have to send an email to their Scion rep saying what they have ordered. The Scion rep then cross references to make sure they are requesting what they have ordered.

I actaully had a black one come in that was not presold, therefore I traded it for the Red Automatic I needed. I ordered a Blue one two weeks ago, should have word on it by Tuesday as for an ETA because it is my number 1 request for this month. Should be here before the end of next month.

Cool that is good insight into the process. Would you say expecting it sometime in September is reasonable?

Jealous. I drive about 35k miles a year and running without a front plate is just asking for trouble. Thats also why I run legal tint.

Oh btw Im Morgan and Im a SysAdmin

Flat Black VW 08-31-2012 07:06 PM

35k?? Your warranty won't last long!

kanundrum 08-31-2012 07:10 PM

My Daily driver got totaled so now I wil be driving the FRS in a few weeks full time once the rental runs out.

A lot to think about once your life kinda flashes before your eyes. Not sure if I should keep the FRS or not sucks.

They never do :(

But the dealer I got it from has a lifetime warranty on the drivetrain, but I like to mod anyway, so its bound to be voided :bellyroll:

What a shame. Those Turbo X's are cool cars.

Did you get hurt? Who was found to be at fault?

Oh maaaaan. That's awful!

What happened? You doing better?

Sad to see this. You definitely had one of the coolest TurboXs if not 9-3s.

kanundrum 08-31-2012 08:22 PM

Yes walked away so that's good. basically someone did pit maneuver on me and sent me flying into concrete wall. I countered enough not to 180 so it was better then going into traffic.
