SubaSteve's CBS BRZ

Introduck
My names Steve and I've always been a car guy. Only recently have I started learning more and more about cars because I hate to be uneducated about things like this. I've been working at my current job(Starbucks) for atleast 2 and a half years. When I first started working there I made the decision to save all the money I would earn towards my first new car. About 8 months ago I had a friend point out the Brz and at the time I knew it was the perfect car for me. I wanted a Subaru but always hated the mpg on their AWD cars.

Plans for the future
TSW Nurburgring 18 Matte Bronze (I hate shiny wheels and black)
Some form of sticky tires to go on these(suggestions welcome)^
Upgraded audio(keep an eye out later for this)
Takeda Intake System(prolly gonna put on pulley same time)
Maybe some more serious items post warranty

Cars I've "owned" were a 95 integra and a 2003 VW Jetta.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...AANESH/040.jpg
You can see the integra to the left. I had an issue where the crank pulley got loose(most likely the crap auto shop we use to go to) and it wore down the end of the crankshaft. Cool thing was I sold it for 2k and the guy who bought it fixed it up for his brother coming back from Iraq.

My younger brothers car VW Cabrio.

Oh its my Greddy SP Elite axle back.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...ESH/lol007.jpg

I figured why buy 160$ JDM tips when I could go ahead and pick up this.

Perrin 4" antennae.

Did I say that I love Adam's polishes?
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0026.jpg

I'll add some youtube videos of the exhaust sound after it stops raining and its not dark out.

Lonewolf 08-26-2012 06:49 PM

Welcome!

Good call on holding off on the pulley install until Subaru/Scion can figure out exactly what the idle fix will be and issue it for us...I've heard rumors of a Subaru reflash coming in September, and the cam gear/cel issue is still being investigated...

SubaSteve 08-26-2012 06:51 PM

My dealership is pretty cool about me doing bolt ons like intake/exhaust. Exactly why I picked Annapolis subaru but I don't want to mess with something like this so SoA has nothing to blame.

SubaSteve 08-28-2012 03:09 PM

Installed the perrin shifter bushing last night.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0035.jpg
Had my brother help me out. I'm the flash light holder....
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0038.jpg
To be honest this wasn't that hard to do.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0039.jpg
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0040.jpg
The two side by side.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0043.jpg
The old one was mostly metal with a rubber piece in the center.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0044.jpg

All in all its definitely worth the 35 bucks I paid. It feels like the shifter pulls to the center more which makes shifting that much easier. Now all I need is a new shift knob perhaps a flossy?

SubaSteve 08-30-2012 11:39 AM

Currently going back and forth with crutchfield about bringing my car in for R&D. Hopefully I can get this all setup within the next week. I'll post more info when I get it.

Slide It 08-30-2012 06:37 PM

Keep us updated on the Crutchfield thing!

SubaSteve 09-26-2012 09:41 PM

Bunch o updates gonna split them up into separate posts cause that's how I do.

So alot has been done to the car since I last updated. I worked for my dad and made some mad cash to spend on the car.

First up grimmspeed oil cap with a tie down strap to soon follow.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0046.jpg
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0047.jpg

SubaSteve 09-26-2012 09:51 PM

Upgraded all of the speakers and added an amp.

Trunk with back seats taken out.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0048.jpg

Another angle with the seats out. Look at that tiny rear speaker.

LC6I getting wired in.

Shot of rear panel super easy to take out.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0052.jpg

Tiny speaker is tiny.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0053.jpg

I hate it when people don't take enough pics MOAR PICS.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0054.jpg

Decided to put it on the back seat for now will move later.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0055.jpg

Sexy distro block for future sub install.

SubaSteve 09-26-2012 09:58 PM

Someone scratched my bumper whilst working for my dad. You would figure it was the nice part of town so they would own up. I guess when you have money you want to keep it at all costs....

So I had to tron up my car and get some of the scratches off.

The person had a plastic bumper so no paint transfer just a stupid wavy dent due to it being on the composite part.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0068.jpg

Wondering why I said tron... green tape + black car = awesome.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0069.jpg

Yey for black hiding scratches.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0070.jpg

Maybe I should make the green stripes permanent?
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0071.jpg

SubaSteve 09-26-2012 10:10 PM

Guess who got some FROG RIGHTS.

For 350 bucks you think they would give you a new plastic piece but oh no you get to drill in the stock piece sadface.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0075.jpg

They atleast give you some nice wire taps.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0079.jpg

Before
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0081.jpg

After we made the hole too big picked up a black washer to fill the gaps.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0121.jpg

The white wire with blue tape on it is what you tap into no plug for some reason.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0078.jpg

They give you new drls since it uses the stock harness and it powers both.
Old drls
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0085.jpg

New drls
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0087.jpg

Installed look from the back.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0084.jpg

Lol bro helpin with the install.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0098.jpg

SubaSteve 09-26-2012 10:20 PM

Clear side markers because orange makes me sad.

Before someone flames me because im rockin clear bulbs its because the ones we got were running SUPER hot and started melting the housing. My bro got me new bulbs but I'm more fond of the leds. And if the county cops don't care I'll keep em this way.

White is sexxxxy.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0122.jpg

With fogs on. I'm going to get new fog bulbs that are led so they don't contrast the look so much.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0125.jpg

Drls and turn.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0124.jpg

My plan is to have all the lights on the front of the car that are white to all match they are 6k if im not mistaken. I might take some heat for this aswell but I plan on hooking up with my brothers friend who is a vw/sub tech to see if we can get all the lights on the car running at the same time. That would be fogs/drls/boomer/headlights.

SubaSteve 09-26-2012 10:33 PM

After installing the amp we went back and put some sound dampening in. We also installed the speakers.

Tweets popped right in the stock hole.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0107.jpg

Yanked off all the moisture barrier.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0108.jpg

So we tried to be conservative with this stuff not alot was needed to get the job done.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0109.jpg

Running the speaker wire through the door boot was the hardest thing we did. Problem is that black tube going into the boot IS APART OF THE BOOT. When you go to do this you'll understand what I mean. So you will have to put a whole in it at the right place.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0114.jpg

Got some custom brackets up in this mug.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0117.jpg

Sound damp for the trunk when we do the sub install.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0113.jpg

Carpet covers this up perfectly.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0111.jpg

Tapped panels and all we really needed was this. Will add more later when we do the sub install if need be.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...H/IMG_0112.jpg

All in all the install wasn't too painful doing it with two people. Now I just need to find someone to help tune the sound once I get the sub installed.

phillies5582 10-03-2012 01:31 AM

Do you have the specs for the speaker sizes? What amp are you running?

SubaSteve 10-07-2012 09:00 PM

Sorry for late response here is what i have.

Amp
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1363004....html?tp=35782

Rear speakers
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_091100C...SG.html?tp=102

Front
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_091130A...-130A1-SG.html

Its all really nice on the highs but I still lack the low end which Im picking up a second amp and sub to run that.

phillies5582 10-14-2012 10:43 PM

Thanks for the reply, just so i have it straight?...the dash speakers are 5 1/4", the rears are 4", what are the door size? are these also 5 1/4"?

SubaSteve 10-21-2012 09:32 PM

Just installed tweeters in the dash and 5 1/4 in the door. I just pulled the stock speakers out of the dash for now.

Current plans for the near future:
Perrin shift knob - purchased from forum mate
Rally armor mud guards - At first glance I hated but they are sick after seeing it on a cbs
Hood dampers - My older brother said he was going to get for me. I have the hood up all the time so it would be nice
Whiteline rubber goodies - prices are getting low on this stuff so I'll pick up soon

Far future:
Summer wheels / tires: Most likely TSW Nurbs in bronze
Coilovers: This is up for debate I don't want garbage but 2k for coils is out of the question.
Intake: Perrin
Tune: Most likely going to get a tune at the same time I get my perrin intake.

On a more serious note here are some of the pics from when we went up to Staten island to do some relief work.

The huge generator we brought with us. Guess who had to drive in Staten island with this thing attached to the truck...

Lets just say finding a uhaul on Staten island is impossible but I worked my magic.

Went at the beginning of november for 4 days then came back the next weekend. It was a church group that I went with. I use to do alot of volunteer work when I was younger and I enjoy doing this kind of stuff. My dad helped out in New Orleans right after Katrina rescuing people who wouldn't leave their pets.

The first day we were there we mucked out a couple houses. The second day they asked the 9 of us to lead 500+ volunteers since we looked like we knew what we were doing. So we ended up doing this every time we were there. I'll tell you what its the greatest feeling in the world to give someone hope where there is none.

Why is it called the fourth brake light mod when the photo only shows three brake lights illuminated?

SubaSteve 01-03-2013 10:18 AM

The third brake light is above the trunk inside the car. This is where most cars have them located. So technically adding this one makes 4.

So you completely disconnected the traditional 3rd brake light? I love the look of that mod and am dying to get rid of that ugly light in my rearview mirror, but have reservations on whether it is a safety hazard. The car is so low compared to SUV/trucks in stock form, just concerned some asshole wont notice the lights and destroy my car at a red light/stop sign. Have you had any buddies follow you at night to test visibility? Are you planning to remove the now obsolete light?
Loving the build so far, and much respect for your community service!
