is anyone's frs competely free of the issues that seem to be popping up

the most worrying ones are the fluttering idle rpm where it dips down when you stop.

the check engine lights coming on after a small amount of miles

and the clunk from the clutch.

i test drove a manuel transmission frs about 2 weeks ago and noticed it dip the rpm's at a stop light and heard the clunk from the clutch.

looking at the forum these issues seem pretty wide spread... and there are others (crickets for example)

yes, i know it comes with a warranty, but having to take your new car in for warrenty work gets old and inconvenient fast. not to mention i don't wouldnt want the dealer techs messing around in a new engine they don't know yet.

just wondering if its even possible to get a completely trouble free frs or if they are all coming in with issues.

MY13FRS 08-21-2012 10:22 PM

I dont seem to have any issues....the chirping is proably due to the gas. But but car doesnt have the gremlins that you guys are experiencing. I also drive my car spiritly as well, have over 1700 miles.

what kind of gas u use?

Calidrifter 08-21-2012 10:25 PM

Only issue I've had is the crickets after a very long and fun 300 mile trip.

None of the other issues, but then again I have an automatic.

boucher 08-21-2012 10:26 PM

I haven't got mine yet, but I assume stuff like this would be corrected at the factory as Toyota receives more and more reports of these issues.

ill86 08-21-2012 10:28 PM

No panel gaps
No condensation in tails
No cricket
No CEL
No idle fluc.
No stalling
No trans/clutch clunk

Rear deck pop, YES
A/C chirp, YES

Also, i was missing a button on the rear seatback... Lol

Otherwise ,clean, lucky.. Happy with purchase.. No regrrts.. 'cept maybe Firestorm..

Ps.. Was on track at 100 miles. Don't worry.. I never let the engine speed drop below 4,000rpm... :D

i'm guessing they will be too, but i think they're in the stage of figuring out what is causing it before making any changes.

the car i test drove 2 weeks ago had just come in, had 50 miles on the odo and in my 15 minute test drive i heard the transmission clunk when i went into 1st, and saw the rpm's dip down at a stop light.

so the cars coming in do still seem to have a chance to have these issues.

i know you usually only read about the bad things online, just checking how many people actually have a trouble free car.

i don't like feeling like it's a gamble when i'm about to buy a new car.

winter 08-21-2012 10:34 PM

I've had no issues with my car yet. I'm at around 2600 miles now, approximately.

tnt 08-21-2012 10:37 PM

none so far at 1000+

Same Here I put some Ams Oil Injector Conditioner and chirps went away, I usually use 91 Shell, best we can get here in Santa Fe, NM. Waiting on DRL ecu exchange and that it , o yeah my glass has these funny circles from an angle and the paint is as thin as paper , but so far so good for a 1st run production platform introduction.

Yruyur 08-21-2012 10:42 PM

Lol, I think my car is an absolute perfect example of literally every issue known for this car.

coming to a forum to assess quality control is not a good idea. nobody starts a post to say "hey, nothing wrong with my car"

rice_classic 08-22-2012 12:03 AM

Pretty much.

Since I don't consider the "crickets" a thing it doesn't go on the list.

Everything is A-OK.

I know why though. Mine's Hot Lava. They're just built better! :P

midenginebias 08-22-2012 12:06 AM

Welcome to the world of first year production releases.

injuryexpert 08-22-2012 12:14 AM

None of those issues for me. (I have an AT, so some don't apply.) Only issue I've had is that there's a clicking noise that comes up at about 2000 rpm. It sounds like a sewing machine or if there's a small piece of metal that gets vibrated at this frequency. I've been advised it's normal but I'm keeping an eye on it (and this board.)

ravenMTgirl 08-22-2012 12:15 AM

I haven't had any of the issues mentioned... yet. My car almost has 1,000 miles on it. I've been putting ethanol free 92 in it every fill up since the first tank the dealer put in it.

JoeBoxer 08-22-2012 12:15 AM

No problems here except I can't pick out which wheels I want.

SuperDave 08-22-2012 12:46 AM

what's this CEL problem?

Sigh-on-Rice 08-22-2012 12:47 AM

I got:
Rear deck popping noise.
Tail light condensation.
Passenger window auto up/down issue.
Engine idle chirp.
A/C tweet at load every 15 secs.

All minor issues.
Though rear deck noise is pretty annoying.

wootwoot 08-22-2012 01:22 AM

i have none of those issues.

Scaldy 08-22-2012 01:27 AM

No issues (knock on wood). 2500 kms driven spiritedly. I use 91 Shell and 94 Chevron.

my rpms only dip when the ac is on, other than that im completely free of problems

EDIT: i also drive pretty hard and have over 10k miles

samsam5886 08-22-2012 02:21 AM

dips in rpm when idle and the drivetrain clunk when going into 1st is normal.

dips arent normal for any car, visconti has tuned them out, they shouldnt be happening, i never had a car or known one before that dipped rpm with all accessories off, it is a mapping issue, a lot of the other issues have to do with assembly at the factory, they are trying to pump as many of these cars out as possible, with that in mind some things wont be assembled properly...

pr086 08-22-2012 08:26 AM

yeah, there is not excuse for the rpm dip. your idle rpm should be rock solid.

FRSowner 08-22-2012 08:29 AM

1400+ miles. No issues mentioned and I have gone out to my car and checked them all as posted and mine was an early production one.

Nitro 08-22-2012 08:37 AM

Rear deck pop
Idle chirping

Car has a little over 3000 miles

#87 08-22-2012 09:02 AM

I have number ~800

Engine chirp - normal

First gear thud - normal

Rear light condensation - will get fixed free less than a day of inconvenience

Rear noise - meh, someone will figure it out and ill fix it in my driveway. don't hear it with windows down or radio on anyway

Door panel rattle from stereo - probably due to weight/cost cutting, doubt they will fix this so I'll probably dynomat it in the future if i care enough

Only issues I have, still would buy the car knowing this

Turbowned 08-22-2012 09:13 AM

You guys with the rear deck noise, if it's all the same cause, there's a DIY fix in the "warranty/recall/issues" section of the forum. Might be worth checking out. I know that would drive me nuts!

JTM 08-22-2012 09:16 AM

No panel gaps
No condensation in tails
No cricket
No CEL
No stalling
No Rear deck pop
No A/C chirp

Trans/clutch clunk - occassionally, but I know what causes this and it isn't a problem.
Idle dips with the AC compressor - This is completely normal.

I have 1500 miles.

Texas BRZ 08-22-2012 09:17 AM

Am approaching 2k miles in my FR-S... I have most of the minor complaints stated already, but otherwise the car feels pretty solid.

If I had a choice to purchase this car all over again, I still would... Am pretty happy with this car, and I'm usually an individual who's really tough to be satisfied when it comes to cars, haha.

Craig 08-22-2012 09:48 AM

No issues here, the cricket's are only noticed with ethanol enriched fuels. Knock on wood!!!

Door panel rattle from speaker is the only one I can think of. Only happens when I turn it to loud though. Like around 25.

Exactly, that is also why it is tough to trust reviews of products online. Everyone is quick to complain when something happens but nobody is in a rush to say works as advertised.

I would say there is about 25 people on here with Issues, even minor ones. If you figure there are probably 6,000 sold so that is only .0041 percent of issues. Not glaring by any means.

Even if you say there was 100 people with problems it is only .016 percent.

russv 08-22-2012 10:47 AM

No problems at all!

pyro530 08-22-2012 10:58 AM

Both the chirping and the clutch clunk are not issues IMO. They are characters quirks that I in no way mind, unless they get worse, because everything else about the car is so great. My shifter does rattle from time to time, but I actually like the sound.

The only actual issues I have are the passenger window auto down and the stereo that like to pop and crackle. 25xx miles.

JSK 08-22-2012 11:55 AM

I'm sitting at about 2300kms right now and I don't have many issues. I have the idle dip but I remember people saying that it was a gas saving feature :iono: ... but if not let me know. Also, i have the 1st gear clunk but only on cold starts. Once the car warms up it is all good.

Aside from that my only complaint is a slightly loose passenger door panel that rattles from the stereo. Even at less than half volume, but that is what the warranty is for :D

dgtlmn 08-22-2012 12:50 PM

None yet. Have almost 360miles on the car. Just filled up for the first time since I bought it. 91 + ethanol, we'll see if the chirp or anything else comes up.
