Tpms set point?

23 brz limited. The tire recommendation is 35psi cold and the tpms sensor shows low pressure light at 34psi. Is there a way to set it at 30 or 32 for low pressure or why the heck would it be set 1psi under recommended? which is ridiculous.

I understand I could set it a few psi higher but with weather fluctuations +\-40 degrees is a gamble and 51 is max but I don’t care for 40ish psi hot ride quality

DeathEvil 11-15-2022 05:34 PM

my light never gets on even as low as 25cold. For me it only lit up when it detected a leak/flat, so I would check for that.

600 miles it has remained the same if it hits 34psi it gets the low pressure light.

How are you reading your pressures?

Could be a sensor or pressure gauge malfunction.

Up4speed 11-16-2022 01:19 AM

After the tires were at the proper pressure, was the "baseline" programmed in? If not, it would explain the behavior that you are seeing.
If not, make sure the tires are at the proper pressure, then reset the TPMS.

I think my light only came on when I got down to about 25 or so, driving home after an event. And on other cars I've seen the light come on with differences as small as 3-4psi from one tire to another.

Air gauge matches dash psi

The dealer programmed the baseline. I haven’t reset anything I was under the impression tpms sensors have a predetermined psi set point that cannot be adjusted and or curious if other people had issues or what their set point is for low psi warning.

I think the sensors themselves just output a value representing the tire pressure. It would be whatever computer in the car that determines what is too low. If the dash and air guage match, then the warning light might be adjustable with techstream.

Dealer should be able to set it lower if that's the case.

^ This. The sensors just sense, the BCU interprets their data and signals based upon it's settings. It should be programable.

In my experience, the alert was displayed once the tires were below 26 PSI, and the very insistent and annoyingly non-dismissable alert was up until they hit 30+ PSI. Interestingly, the pressures were marked yellow, yet the alert was not up when it was very cold outside, though, so perhaps it changes its behavior per outside temps.

Thanks, well when I hit 1000 mark and get oil changed I’ll have them reprogram it.

NP. Please report back here after you bring it in to let us know if that fixed it.

I believe you can reprogram the baseline by setting the pressure to whatever you want and then following the "initialize TPMS" procedure described in the owner's manual:
  1. Turn ignition off
  2. Set tire pressure to 35 psi (pump/bleed)
  3. Turn ignition on
  4. Press and hold the TPMS button until the "low tire pressure" light blinks slowly 3 times

After I did this, I only saw low tire pressure warning when my tire pressures go below 28, and they frequently are at 28 at the start of my track day sessions.

Went to dealer for oil change and had them look at tpms sensors. Well since a master tech wasn’t there and they tried resetting them and overwriting software they are still not communicating to each other or the module. So I’m getting a loaner vehicle during a week while the master tech is there and they already made a claim with Subaru.

Update: 12-7-22

The dealership had my car for 2 days total and they said they put a few new tpms sensors in, checked all the wiring/electrical and the control module itself needs replaced due to not communicating with tpms properly. Mind you all my tpms sensors were accurate and working before I took it there to have them see why I got a low pressure light at 34psi which according to people on here is not right. Im guessing when they tried to reprogram/reset it from the initial factory programming it failed.

So they told me to pick it up today (im guessing I have no pressure tire readings and if I get a flat or destroy my wheels thats on them due to a warranty claim) The part is on back order :(

Have you or the dealer tried to follow what I suggested a couple of posts above?

Does that work for pressures below 28? My cold starting pressures are usually around 25/26 PSI, and this method did not seem to work right for me. I saw the 3 blinks, and it seemed to work for that session. But next time, it was complaining again until tire pressures hit >30 PSI.

I don't know.
I can imagine that "<28 bad :bonk:" is simply hardcoded in the ECU.

I would ignorantly assume they should know that procedure. They got Subaru America involved and expediting the control module.

I personally have not tried that.

vindiesel 02-10-2023 08:33 PM

Well just got my car back. After waiting for a month for the part to come in it is finally fixed. They replaced the tpms module and it functions fine. Well I haven’t drove it enough to see where my low tire pressure is at now. But all good.
