OEM looking lug nuts? McGard?

I heard the OEM lug nuts are low quality. I prefer stock look.
What are my options for a good lug nut replacement? Where to buy?

I grabbed some Dorman brand one's to replace the OEM from Napa.

I knew the studs were crappy but didn't know abut the nuts. I'm gradually switching to ARP studs after breaking three of the stock ones.

I have black McGard spline drive nuts on mine. They don't draw attention at all but do exactly what they're supposed to do, provide a solid connection to the socket. No complaints at all here.

I went with McGard as well, only complaint is having to carry around a tool in the trunk. I have a spare in case it breaks too.

What's the matter with the stock ones? Do they break? Cross thread?

They cross thread very easily. I think they may be a contributing factor in the stud issues people have. I replaced mine with gorilla lugs and They threaded in much nicer. I had steel Mutekis too but they rusted way fast. Then again here in Florida everything rusts, lug nuts are almost a wear item.

Start the nut by hand and make sure the threads are clean. Why bother with aftermarket if you have factory rims.

I've broken at least 4-5 of the OEM studs. Went with the autoparts store Dorman brass looking ones and they're fine.

I don't doubt if you all agree that the OEM nuts are weak, and I'm gonna catch flame for this, but...

How do you cross thread lug nuts if you remove them completely by hand and install them completely by hand?
I've never had issues with the OEM nuts, I always thread it fully by hand before even using a ratchet.

People typically aren't really cross threading them. They deform threads from dragging wheels across the studs or get metal shavings/grime in the threads and then the nut seizes.

Living here in the Chicago area and having dedicated snow tires,I've removed my wheels at least twice per year for the past 5 years and have never had an isssue with my studs. I suspect the problems is that people overtighten the lugs. They are only supposed to be torqued 89 ft/lbs. I'd be willing to bet that most that snap are going way past that torque number.

That's good to know. I use 96lb because that's what we required

with the Porsche Club. I usually do tire changes myself, but occasionally have my wrench do something, and he insists that nothing goes out of his shop less than 100lb. I don't think that's necessary.
