Stock Rear View Camera for Fujitsu Ten?
 

EDIT: any NTSC Camera will work with our headunit - pins 8 and 16 on the 16 pin harness take the video +/- signal. So long as the camera has power when the head unit starts up, it'll recognize it.

I actually did search. Only thread I found was someone trying to sell their own custom deal and it referred to a vendor post that no longer exists and a couple of the comments saying how unreasonably priced it was. But thanks, I'll try a few more permutations on the search and see what I can find out.

I've also been trying to find this. The connectors there but there's only one wire coming out of the harness (gray for the e-brake wire). I've been contemplating adding the correct pins the harness - if you find anything please post back.

As a Subaru Parts Manger and retired Navy Electronics Technician, I'll add this:

The rear camera is available for the 2012/2013 Forester and Impreza.
The Forester does have a seperate rear cord for the camera that I can order.
There are several patch connectors available for the Forester and Impreza that are used when the nav is installed (I have all 3 on order).
The camera connection comes in the radio on Connector B a 16 pin plug, and the plug for the BRZ only has 1 wire (hand brake).
The rear camera kit for the Forester lists for $160.00

The hard parts:

Pins for the existing radio plug or get lucky with one of the patch cables.
Buy and mount the camera
Running 4 wires
Determine what tells the radio to switch to back up mode, or will it be automatic when it see's the camera is connected.

I too saw the vendor thread, I also think the pricing is WAY to high for a camera 2 plugs, and a legnth of 4 wires.

Sparks, are you experimenting with this? I'll probably get the parts and start playing around with this as well, but if you've already made some headway, I'd hate to reinvent the wheel (and possibly make the same mistakes).

Yes the first patch cable arrived today and it's an antenna cable, no luck. The other two will be here Monday.

I did receive an email from SVXdc who makes the cables for the Imprezas/Foresters. He said he could supply a harness with the RCA plug and the pins to install into the factory 16-pin connector. Basically just put the pins in the right place on the connector, pretty easy. I don't know if that comes with the power cable to power the OEM camera, I'm assuming it does. I may not end up using the OEM camera to begin with just to make sure everything works okay.

He has made these for the Fujitsu Ten units in the 2012 Forester/Impreza.

The remainng cables came in, both are antenna related.

Looks like I need to contact SVXdc for some contacts :)

One way or another I am going to make this work :)

After a little more research, the head unit puts out 6V to turn on the camera, not needed.
The head unit does get a reverse input.
The back up lights can be tapped to power the 12V camera.

All we need now is pins to RCA and a DIY

Ive had SVXdc's pins sitting in my glove box for a couple months now as I have not gotten around to trying it. Hopefully you guys can figure it out and make it easier for everyone else.

I ordered that $17 license plate CMOS camera since it was so cheap and gives a nice mounting solution (available on Amazon prime for $14 and change.) If I don't find a proper adapter by this weekend, I'm just gonna go Frankenstein on the stock wiring and hope for the best.

I went with this camera kit. The camera measures 25X22X25mm. There is a flat area under the rear trunk logo that is 35X75mm. Should be a pefect fit and located dead center. For 12.35, WTH!

SVXdc - We need your help on pins to RCA :D

I got mine working. Pins match from the diagram in my previous post. Right now I'm working on power and putting everything back together. I will post pics when I get home tonight.

Talking with Mr. SVXdc the pins used aren't the same, they work, kind of.

For me, next is pull the head unit try removing the pin for the brake input. Then match it up to our Subaru terminal kit or possibly radio shack. I want this to be a plug and play, with pins that snap in, not forced.

Sparks - that area for me has the trunk release button. Do you have a Premium? This is why I was leaning towards the license plate camera as the Limited is using that space for the trunk release. I thought both models had that.

Yea I have the preimum, I forgot the Limited has the button :lol:

SVXdc has found a source for the pins and an inexpesive kit will be released soon. Still a little testing to do with the head unit and when the camera turns on.

I need to iron out a few install details, do a little testing to make sure it works correctly, take pictures, then write a detailed DIY.

Any chance that set of 4 pins can be sold separately?

The wiring is the same for both cars.

Alright - My pins from SVXdc have arrived. The camera kit is still in route, so this weekend is testing the head unit. Things to determine:

Does the 6V signal turn on during startup?
Does the 6V signal turn on in reverse?
Is the ground wire needed to switch to the reverse screen?

Finally add the pins to the plug and verify operation using a misc video input.

Ah yes, testing and martuni's :)

The head unit (HU) sends 6.3 VDC to the camera during start up. If if it doesn't see a video input, the voltage drops off to 0. If the video signal is present, there is a constant 6.3 VDC out of the HU. So it keeps the camera on all the time.

The ground wire for the camera is NOT needed if the video input is constant.

If you have video input during start-up the HU goes into reverse mode when selecting rev.

With a video input, you are able to adjust the guide lines through set-up.

The pins sent from SVXdc work PERFECTLY. All you need is his video input kit for the BRZ, depending on the camera kit you buy.

Bottom line today, keep the camera on all the time (through a relay or constant).
Don't buy a camera with guide lines, unless they can be turned off.

I'm done until the cheap camera kit arrives from HK, Have a great weekend my fellow BRZ/FRS drivers :)

Thanks Sparks - I don't see a "video input kit for the BRZ" on SVXdc's order page http://ae64.com/Ordering.htm - Could you let me know which one it is? Perhaps it's originally for another car?

Also to everyone else that managed to tear down the piece on the trunk that goes over the license light, how many bolts/pushtabs do you have to remove to get that free and clear? I took a quick look this afternoon and it looks like there are two bolt nuts, a pushtab, and perhaps two more bolts around the keylock (do those go too?) The pushtab appeared to be locked in there pretty good, do you take it off with pliers?

Also, can you turn off the HU guidelines? I think my cheapo camera doesn't have a toggle for that.

My camera kit is not here yet, so I hanen't dug into the rear area.

The OEM HU guide lines can't be turn off.

Sorry, I didn't realize you had a prototype/pre-release item from him. I had assumed it was already available for ordering.

Since it's not available yet, I'll proceed with my plan to do my non-plug n play wiring job this weekend. If I wanted to remain completely stock and not have to splice into any wires, I'd wait for a kit, but that's not a requirement for me. Will be useful for others, to be sure.

Since the Limited uses that area above the license plate for the trunk release, I may look to a mounting location lower, on the bumper, then wire underneath instead of through the trunk lid.

Hang on a bit, the RCA plug to pin kit is perfect.

I know this is for the BRZ, but I'm wondering if the Scion Bespoke radio is the same?

Can you write up a DIY with photos and instructions when you do it?

It was 5 nuts, (you do need to do the two around the lock mechanism then pull out the lock mechanism down). Once I had those 5 out I just held on to the top with one hand so I wouldn't scratch my paint and pushed the tab with my other hand and it popped right out.

Also, get the pins from svxdc, there aren't any wires you can splice, you NEED to insert pins into the plug. I used pins from a different kit that did not fit perfectly but were able to slide(with some extra force) into the harness.

You guys think this camera for the Impreza/Forester would fit on the BRZ? Replaces one of the license plate lights.
