I guess you'll have to disconnect this hose to install the GT Spec kit?

oops..

JadeBRZ 08-09-2012 01:37 PM

or you could just put it over top of the a/c line :bonk:

Arnie_1 08-09-2012 01:39 PM

Perhaps. Would depend on how much it would compress, bend or pinch the hose/line.

JadeBRZ 08-09-2012 01:42 PM

it won't, i just went down and pushed on that line. there is plenty of slack in there. Or you could undo the bracket (for the a/c line) from the firewall and make something to mount it lower so it doesnt stick up so high.

Arnie_1 08-09-2012 02:27 PM

Ah, super cool. Thanks for checking JadeBRZ! That hose did look like it had a lot of wriggle room.

White64Goat 08-09-2012 08:43 PM

But then how much does that hose rub on the underside of the brace?? And in more than one place? Looks like a nice piece, but you'd have to recharge the A/C after installing it, it would appear, if you want the hose to go over it.....

Actually it appears that the drivers side that goes out to the strut tower is not welded and you may be able to insert the hose between the bars and the bar has a tab that bolts through the bracket and the strut bolt. Clever if that's how it is done.

When you pressed on the line, did you do it while the A/C was on?

If that is the high pressure hose, it will probably rupture if something is rubbing against it all the time. I had a high pressure line break on my STi when the line was resting on top of the FMIC piping.

Maybe it won't happen, but I think it probably would eventually.

Draco-REX 08-10-2012 05:19 PM

If you're worried about that, just wrap a piece of coolant hose or a large piece of convoluted tubing around the AC line.

dunphyjp 08-11-2012 12:19 AM

WANT.... WANT MEOW!

driv3r 08-11-2012 12:35 AM

wow, a strut bar that's actually functional (no pivots / heim-style joints). want

I'm sure it can sit above the AC line. Its obnoxious hanging out in the air anyway!

cobrabyte 08-12-2012 02:46 PM

MMMMmmmmm. That's sexy. I imagine that firms things up nicely.

Or à better idea, go to an custom hydraulic line maker (for machinery) and buy some hose wrap, it is built for that purpose... And looks WAY better

xcelir8brz 08-12-2012 06:35 PM

:nice:!

switchlanez 08-12-2012 06:42 PM

Looks heavier than what this car needs if stock powered. :p

the lack of joints doesnt really add any more functionality. and if you think would then i wouldnt see the need for a strut bar at all since there are no joints between the top hats to begin with

not sure what you mean by no joints btw the top hats? do you mean the strut towers? the purpose of a strut bar / strut tower brace is to prevent any movement of the towers. if you place a pivot right along the axes you're trying to prevent movement of, then what's the point of the bar?

to state it another way: show me an OEM strut bar with pivot in it. they're solid all the way across. i think multi-national corporations with thousands of engineers and R&D budgets of hundreds of millions know what they're doing. if strut bars with pivots in them were effective, we'd see them installed by OEMs.

not trying to start a flame war. let's just agree to disagree. back on topic...

just because there arent joints, doesnt mean it works. the struts are already connected without joints. the joints on a bar doesnt allow the struts to move laterally in relation to eachother just the same as one that does. the bottom of the struts will however move laterally in realtion to the top with joints in the strut bar or not.

it's called a strut tower brace, but it's job is to brace the engine bay, preventing it from flexing, and changing the suspension geometry. it doesn't act on the struts

if you want to discuss further, PM me. let's not crowd this thread with off-topic posts

Looks like another good product from GT spec.

White64Goat 08-16-2012 10:06 PM

So, when do we see it being installed?

When do we see a price?

*KID* 08-16-2012 10:15 PM

goke186 08-29-2012 10:02 PM
