Suspension bolt stuck?
 

Having loads of trouble removing these two bolts from the front struts.

Anyone have tips or tricks? I’m using an impact wrench and soaked in wd40 and they just won’t budge

Soak 'em overnight. Otherwise a breaker bar + gym membership or some heat, via a torch.

If you wrench often and run into seized, rusty steel hardware and induction heater for bolt removal is an amazing tool to have. Red hot in 30 seconds without an open flames.

Lmao so I just did this and I’d like to tell you a funny story about how I no longer own a breaker bar haha

I’m going to let it sit over night and then try the torch method.

After torching. Is it ok to immediately take an impact wrench to it?
I’ve wrenched a lot but I guess I’ve had my fair share of luck with just taking the impact fun and things just coming loose after a few pulses

Get them red and then go. Just no they will be hot, so once they break back off as you don't want them dropping or flying around upon removal.

You weren't trying to turn that side of the bolt were you? You gotta loosen the other side with the nut.. Not the bolt side.

yes, the upper bolt is the adjustment. counter the bolt and loosen the nut. always.


it is best to use a 6 point socket and an impact quality will withstand higher loads.


the box stores will have 3/4" drive parts individually and you still might need to throw a pipe on the handle to extend it. (19mm is close enough to a 3/4" socket.)


I break all my bosses harbor freight tools for fun because its junk.

Ran over to autozone and bought a 2ft 1/2 in drive breaker with a new 19mm deep socket. Got the top out on drivers side. Working on bottom now.

😂 I’ll be changing all the hardware. I’ve never had this much trouble before. I guess I wasted all my luck on my old Miata where everything came apart with much ease.

Only heat the nut, It will expand, then breaker bar. HF impact black sockets are tough, Hex not twelve sided.




edit: a few auto parts stores will lend tools. like 3/4 drive

can always add a pipe to it!

Got it all figured out, car is successfully lowered on FactionFab Springs. Looks great. Will post pics tomorrow as my back is thoroughly done. Haha.

Ended up using a torch and heating the nuts and changing out the hardware on reinstallation.
