Wierd noises from sprintex supercharger
Hi
New here :) I have 2012 toyota gt86 with sprintex kit on it. I bought it with the kit on it and ever since then the engine bay make squeaking noises , probably belt/pulley noises. First inspection showed that the accessory belt tensioner was not working right so he got replaced with a new one, but the noise is still there. Ill try tomorrow changing the drive belt since i have a spare one at my garage, but she looks perfect, no signs for cracks or anything. Im starting to think the noise is from the sc pulley , is it possible to oil him a lil bit ? Mabey he making this squeaking noises? Does anyone faced the same problem ? Thanks. Have you changed the gear oil in the supercharger itself in the time that you've owned the car?
|
Well no i didn’t.
Actually didn’t know there is oil in the supercharger .. Where can i get some info about this ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
So i did some research and bought redline 75w90 ns gear oil , changed the sprintex oil that was almost empty ! :(
Changed the drive belt also , and now everything seems to work perfect. No noises at all. Thanks ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
No problem! Glad you found the issue before anything went wrong! enjoy your car

yeah the rotrex blower in the jrsc kit tends to eat oil too. everyone says the service interval for the blowers oil change is 50k miles or 2 years, im like no way in hell dude. 10k miles.
|
Sprintex kits are every 30k but when pushed I have read the seem to loose a bit oil. Most people recommend checking the oil level regularly and it must be jacked up to to get a level reading.

Mine is making weird noises too. Ive attached a video which distinctively demonstrates the sound I'm referring to. I haven't gone to a shop to have it looked at yet but Im thinking this a pulley bearing on its way out (not sure which one)
This noise completely goes away once the car is warmed up. Does anyone know what this could possibly be? [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_DGa2WWJ2U[/ame] |

Yes I'm referring to that squeak lol I'm running the 69mm pulley since I had the SC install. I just got this supercharger + pulley/belt a few months ago. Is it possible I need a new belt already. I dont track the car... just daily drive it and occasional pulls nothing crazy. It's hard to believe I need a new belt already but I will try your suggestion. |
What idler pulley are you using?

Try this. The stock one will not work as you drop the down to smaller sc pulleys Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk |
I ran one of these kits for 62K miles. I'd recommend checking the gear oil in the blower on a very regular basis, it will consume oil and if it goes dry bad things will happen.

Another good point. To get a correct reading you need to jack up the rear end to get the engine at a flat level

To make measurement easier in the future, I went through the above procedure to get the proper level, then let the car down in its normal parking place and inserted a small screwdriver and marked the correct level with a small file. After that I just inserted the marked screw driver to check the level with out trying to relevel the SC.

I will most likely look into that, much thanks for your input. |

OK, I use a "heepadermic nudal" A syringe with a short piece of tubing on the end. A basting syringe with a short piece of silicone. I use a strait pin through the end of the tubing and the syringe to hold it in place. Then cut the pin off.
I use a larger syringe and tube to do the same for diff and trans. I work on old English sports cars and often it is hard to get fluid in or out. |

There may be shit jammed up in the grooves of the belt. I meticulously picked all the bits of gravel out of my belt. Cured the slip. Normal people might just buy a new one. Meh. It's therapeutic porch time for me. Other old people whittle. |
Squeaks, weird noises, ECUTEK problems etc lol...
Welcome to the boosted club... a car that wasn't designed to take boost Aren't we all victims... mines been doing the same shit and Im as clueless as you budd lol |
Also with different size pulleys comes the need for different length belts. To set the tensioner operating in its most effective range, select the shortest possible belt that can be fitted without using special tools.
I remember that the recommended belt length squealed on a friend's sprintex-boosted engine. Fixed when I replaced it with the next step shorter. YMMV. |
This is the belt I use

I finally got around to spraying water on the belt as it was squeaking... the sound went away instantly. So now that we know its the belt the question is what belt is best for 210 Sprintex with a 69mm pulley. |

Here is where it gets tricky - If I was previously using the larger belt which was designed for a 75mm pulley - Is it possible my belt was slipping this whole time because I ran the 69mm pulley instead? Ever since my Supercharger instal & tune I've been running the Sprintex original belt on the 69mm pulley. Is it possible that now with a tighter/smaller belt my car needs a revision tune?? I'm so confused lol :bonk: |

Would not hurt to send a log.. but check the above. Definitely look at these before you go WOT as you don't want to be lean now :).
