Wait for a BRZ or get an FRS now?
I , like many others, have placed an order for a BRZ with wait times up to next May/June 2013.
Between the two, I chose the BRZ over the FRS. For me, the main issues are the front, the side-fender 86 logo, and the Scion badges that keep me from being content with an FRS. However the more the uncertain the wait times, the less these things matter lol. So did anyone cave in and buy an FRS instead? Just want to know what they "compromised" in terms of getting an FRS |
So basically you do not like anything that makes the FRS an FRS instead of a BRZ. LOL wait and get the car you want.

Hey I do like the FRS.
If my car (242k miles) happens to break down, in the waiting time for the BRZ, I'm pretty set on getting a Whiteout FRS. So i'm only waiting as long as my Civic lets me lol |
For me, there were BRZ's available and I was willing to wait to get an FRS. It is just personal preference. No I am not a scion fan, but I still prefer the car to the BRZ. Just get what you want. Threads like this are kind of funny.

I faced the same dilemma. I first approached the Subaru dealer. The reality was they couldn't tell me when I'd get one. I then looked at the FR-S. I liked the exterior styling better on the FR-S but the HID and Interior styling on the BRZ better. I liked the price of the FR-S better and was told I could get one in 2 weeks. The choice for me was easy, FRS. I'm still smiling.

Everyone has different taste but to me the FRS has a newer, fresher front bumper design look and it look better in its own right than the few year old LFA ! With the toyota/GT86 rear badges on my pearl white, car look so stunning right now. Hey this is my opinion :)

Ask yourself seriously which car do you like more, regardless of badging. Badging can be changed. Mine is totally rebadged to Toyota with exception of the floor mats. I chose an FRS/86 because I totally loved the front end more than the BRZ's and I wasn't going to pay a mark-up. I liked the BRZ for the HIDs and GPS, but in the end the 86 won me over and that's what I took home.
Good luck with your decision man, and I hope you get the car you REALLY want. :happy0180: |
get the brz if you can wait, because its the car you wanted first, you might need to start searching for it, some other dealer might have the car
|
I'm not in a rush to buy, so I'm not pre-ordering a FR-S or BRZ.. I'm just going to wait and get the first available one at a local dealership, even if it's not for several more months. The differences to me aren't enough to sway me either way. I don't mind paying a little more for the BRZ's "luxury" amenities.. but at the same time, I also don't mind paying LESS for the FR-S without those amenities.

How badly do you need another car. If you have to wait until 2013 you should hold of until the next model.
I'm guessing you don't want the car because you think people are going to look down on you for owning a "Scion." Who cares what other people think? Personally, I want the BRZ for the extra creature comforts and because I care what people think if I bought a Scion  Quote:

I also only want Ultramarine or Raven.. If I'm going to wait, I might as well get the exact color I want. But I haven't test drove one yet, so I definitely want to go check it out. Thanks for the heads up though! |

It's tough. You should get what you want but you'll have to wait. So should you settle?
Let's look at it logically. Do you need nav or a push button start? Do you prefer the Tom Selleck front bumper of the BRZ? Do you prefer the understeer of the BRZ? If you answered no to these questions and the only thing holding you back from the FRS is the 86/piston badge and scion logos then the only logical answer is: Get over it. However, if you can't get over it then it proves my theory that the only reason BMW ever sold any Z3's is because they had BMW badges on them; had they not that car would have been DOA regarding sales numbers. Buy the FRS and have a 2013 car in 2012. If you're buying a new car why would you buy a 2013 half way through 2013!? You only own it for 6 months before it's consider "a year old". |
Get an FR-S
Spend an extra $3k on doing a conversion. Done! Maybe the one next year are 2014's? |

there are BRZs sitting on the lot, you just have to do some grunt work to find the one you want... I'd go for the BRZ since its the car you want.
This thread should help you out http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9518 |
I was all set on getting a BRZ, but a horrible dealership experience led me by chance to a Toyota dealer in the same compound. Got a FR-S for about 2 grand less than the BRZ I was looking at across the street (BRZ was marked up, FR-S was not).
It all worked out for the better, as I didn't want the Nav and HID's anyway. I'd rather spend that money elsewhere. |
I chose the FR-S because Its the same thing as a BRZ. Only difference is the interior and exterior, just by a little bit. Plus with Scion, the price you see is the price you get, unlike subaru. When I wanted to pre order, they told me it would be an extra $5k over sticker price. They said because " Its a limited car ". If I wanted pay $30K+ for a BRZ, I'd rather go with an STI, More HP and Turbo. You cant go wrong with an FR-S.

:word: I also called a Toyota dealership and I can qualify for the 1k off grad rebate. I've been driving a car with none of those creature comforts, so i don't necessarily NEED it, but would definitely like an upgrade now that I can afford too. Yes I prefer the BRZ front, (the Tom Selleck Front:bow:). I have driven the FRS about 7 times and loved it each time. I'm guessing I could put navi + HIDs in myself. I'll choose to play the waiting game, as months go on, I'm hoping it''ll be easier to obtain a BRZ by november-ish. But that FRS.. is waiting to be bought |

Priced at MSRP: $25,533 |
I'm a BRZ owner and I could of done the first 86 program but I really wanted the BRZ instead cause of its few more options!
LED DLR LED half angel eyes HID with moving adjuster Navi system, bluetooth Those 4 things just got me to wait on the BRZ...dont get me wrong the FRS is beautiful but I came from a Evo 10 and I wanted the same options...... The wait is the only thing that was killing lol |

Toyota GT86 Airbag\Steering wheel cover - $800 A good aftermarket NAV - $700-800 Toyota\GT86 badges - $100 You could do a HID retrofit for like $400 and have better hids that the bRZ or stock GT86, plus be legal. I think the fun thing is to that a FR-S and turn it into the GT86. Thats why I am leaning back towards the FR-S. |
