Slim down for ..car gains?

If you go to the gym and lose 30 lbs, how much hp/torque does that add to your car? :P

HKz 04-25-2018 01:13 PM

none ofc, but your cog goes even lower

Spuds 04-25-2018 10:17 PM

Your acceleration will be faster, but your torque at the wheels will average 0.8 ft-lb less in 2nd due to the increase in inertial resistance. At least according to the estimates I plugged in to my calculator. Need to get some numbers off my car still...

Mr.ac 04-25-2018 11:07 PM

Before I race I take some laxatives. I need every ounce to win a race.

that's not enough dedication. You need to fast the day before as well.

Dam. Just when I think I'm ahead.

We have here a sand that kids use for playing. It is called spielsand. Try to load 4 packs of this in the trunk of any car and see what will happen. I did this last weekend in my Forester.

I put a bench with some weight plates few days back, approx 265 pounds and i feeled the weight. I guess 60+ pounds you will notice the difference

krayzie 04-26-2018 09:28 AM

If you remote control the car then you can cancel out your entire bodyweight.

Cartman 04-26-2018 09:46 AM

I've lost 40 lbs and my laps worsen from 1:08.7s to barely breaking 1:10's

but I also switched from RE71R to RS4s

Roadcone 04-26-2018 09:50 AM

every 10lbs you lose usually equates to roughly the same performance as a 1hp gain.

I've always heard 7lb,,, but close enough either way. 3-4 HP for 30 lb

Depends on how much percent of the total car weight that amounts to, and the power to weight ratio.

FRS: 2750lb+200lb driver and 200chp. P/W=0.0677966

Gain of 1hp: P/W=0.0681356

New Total weight needed for 1hp gain equivalent performance (P/W):
P/(P/W)=200/0.0681356=2935lb.

2935lb-2750lb-200lb= -15lb

Tldr, on our car the magic number is approximately 15 lb per hp performance gain as measured by p/w.

Now, is that a good measurement of performance, :iono:? Acceleration is a better measurement, but that needs more maths and I already told you all the answer to that lol.

You can get an AT and remove an arm and a leg. That would give you the upper hand.

Gunman 04-26-2018 12:55 PM

Weight reduction, along with the physical fitness improvements should help make gains. Many pro drivers are also triathletes now too.

Ive always heard 1lb of rotating mass is equal to 7lbs of dead weight. 10lbs of dead weight equals 1hp. 100lbs =10hp= tenth in quarter mile.

So for the OP you've just gained yourself 3hp and .003 secs in the a quarter mile! Take a laxative and a big squat and you could be even faster

About the same as if you took out the spare tire and associated jack.

Azzudien 04-26-2018 05:07 PM

Tossing your wife out of the car gains significant power. Weight reduction and when she kicks the ass end of your car as you drive away is a nice push boost.

Get's rid of that annoying whining noise from the passenger side as well.

Does all this math everybody is throwing around work in reverse. If I have my 250 pound son in law and two 150 pound grandsons in the car will it even move? Will my HP go into the negatives?

Well, there is a weight limit the suspension can handle, but other than that my math works just fine. Power to weight ratio approaches 0 but can't actually go negative unless either mass is negative or power is negative.

But that makes too much sense for this crowd, so let's see what else we come up with.

Better start working out fatty!

Damnit. I was hoping to get enough weight in there that it would drive backwards and create fuel.

And yes speed bumps become very challenging when they are all in the car!

Try this formula Weight/Power and you'll never get negatives.

It is never too late to learn ;)

Also never to late to figure out when somebody is obviously making a joke. If anybody truly believed that I felt that adding more weight would make the car go negative or not move they need to re examine their world outlook.

So just how bad a drop in power/acceleration does a Lotus with 50 bags of chips in the trunk get?

It's pretty bad, but my cute homosexual oil cap evens it out.

Well if your next serpentine belt is delivered from Blue Oyster Auto Parts and had metal studs in it then don't say I didn't warn you.
