Stock or JZ?

So, finding a forum on the new ft86 10 minutes before I go to work, I would like to ask yall a question. Would you rather keep the factory engine, or go with toyotas classic powerhouses the 1JZ or 2JZ.

Leeky 05-11-2011 08:35 AM

JZ engines are old and heavy. I think with the exception of another boxer lump, pretty much any engine swap would ruin all the hard work Toyota and Subaru have put into this car's handling.

With the JZ in particular its a cast block which would be way too heavy to properly use in the FT86.

You'd be much better of just buying the turbo model ft86 (if they produce one or a upgrade kit to fit to the N/A) or swapping in the Impreza Turbo lump.

The only benefit i can see in having something like a 1JZ/2JZ is the torque....but torque of that scale would be wasted on a car like this as its too light. You'd struggle to get any power down as there just wont be enough weight over the rear axel.

2.5ltr Impreza STI lump would be the biggest engine i would ever consider putting into this car.

ichitaka05 05-11-2011 10:06 AM

^do agree w ya there

2.5L H4 Turbo is way enough power for this car. If that's not enough, then go get H6, which can get 240bhp~1200bhp

Y'all have no imagination. This car deserves a Vedeneyev M-14P radial engine!

Never thought about that, where you got those figures from anyway? I'm kinda hooked on supras, which is why I asked the question, to all the car nerds wanting to ban me.

Midship Runabout 05-11-2011 08:01 PM

Get a supra then

Samdajiggaman 05-11-2011 08:08 PM

EG33 = 230hp
EZ30D = 216hp
EZ30R = 241hp
EZ36 = 256hp

This Impreza swapped w EZ30 w twin turbo. They claim 1200bhp
[u2b]i6nKQ1nmz3c[/u2b]

But H4 can make 1200bhp

Only thing you need is $. More $ = More HP.

Same thing goes w this car. More $ you gonna put into this car, more HP you can get out of it. Simple as that

Wish things were cheap like in the 60s and 70s, a guy I work with always tells me stories of trading mucsle cars, cheap car and parts prices, a 1969 Camaro ss for $4500. Man fuck inflation, Im never going to have a 600 BHP car.

But in 60's $4.5k is pretty expensive!

1969 = $4.5k
2011 = $27.8k

True, you seem to know an awful lot. How much can you mod a high end v12(lets say lambo revengton up to or something of that sort)?

IDK, those high end engine have very limited after market for it.

Again, more $ = more HP.

Yeah I understand $ = more hp, I was just wondering how much horsepower you could get out of a v12 as opposed to an I6 or v6.

Well over a 1000 whp. Upwards of 1500whp (race gas). Will cost you $$$$ since hp cost $$.

The lambo has crazy potential if you just have enough money to throw at it, say $100k.

I love that lambo, btw,if you have enough money to afford a lambo in the first place wouldn't you be able to throw 100k at it since you'd most likely be rich to be able to get one in the first place?

Same question goes for many who bought more home than they could afford and are now upsides down on their mortgage or have been foreclosed on. I don't want to speculate on what people's financial status is/how good of a financial planer they are. Many people stretch themselves too thin to buy a bigger home than they can afford, buy new TVs and electronics they can't really afford, go on extravagant vacations they can't afford, or buy a car that they really can't afford. So I don't want to speculate what someone who spent $200k has money left over to do. That wasn't the point of my post anyways. You asked how much you could mod a V12 Lambo engine and I provided that to you along with the cost. Lets leave the financial speculation for another thread.

Didnt Bugatti build or are building a batch of 12 limited special modified ones.
Lighter and higher BHP than the normal Veyron. Think they painted black and orange?

It is called the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Only the first five were matter black and orange. They haven't announced what the production number will be. Currently world's fastest car and fastest around the Top Gear track.

I call BS on part that the Ariel Atom 500 beat it around the track by over a second

Via Wikipedia:

The Power Board
1:15.1 – Ariel Atom 500
1:16.8 – Bugatti Veyron SS

Though, to be fair, the Atom is a stripped down track monster that's barely street legal.

True... but I highly doubt, Atom can beat Veyron SS's top speed

Honestly, if you want over 1k BHP a big v8 is probably the cheapest option. But by cheap I mean $$$$ instead of $$$$$.

800BHP NA(which is pretty low) with 30lbs of boost and you're looking at over 2k BHP. Not safe for kids :bonk::!
