FT-86 SpeedFactory - Firestorm Red - Build Thread
http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/ft86logo.png Picked up our first FR-S. A beautiful Firestorm Red. We will be developing parts for the car along with show caseing many of the other great products made by Cusco, KW, Fortune Auto, HKS, Greddy, Perrin, Ksport, aFe, Injen, and more. We'll be adding a second car soon as well. But here is the build thread for our red one. Stay tuned we should have some parts to show off very soon. ;) The car is every bit amazing as the reviews read. I'm use to Evo's here but the FR-S / BRZ really bring back the aspect of fun to sports cars I feel. Planted, nimble, exciting, and affordable. Cannot wait to get this thing on track and autocrossing. http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/frs1.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/frs2.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/frs3.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/frs4.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/frs5.jpg Little comparison next to a California. It really is a mini "Turismo" as some have called it in reviews. http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/frs7.jpg Follow us on Facebook! http://jbautosports.com/storage/facebook.jpg |

The season is winding down for us and the red one is personally owned by myself. I have a few things to take care of, specifically a trip to Spain, before I can start throwing things at the car. Also, here is a video of a few of my runs. This is one of our smallest venues for autocross, but it was still a good time! Finally an update on our Firestorm shop car! AEM intake installed on our Firestorm FRS this past weekend. Our Firestorm FRS was our baseline for many of our tests, so the mods were saved for the Argento car, and this thread has been collecting dust. Since we wanted to test this intake on a car with no other mods, it was only logical to install on the red one. Plus, it was getting jealous of all the goodies the silver car was getting! Nothing complicated about the install and everything went smoothly. AEM provides nice grommets and hardware to make sure everything has great fit and finish. They include a cap for the factory sound generator and rubber seals to ensure that the airbox is sealed up nicely! The fit and finish is what you come to expect from a company like AEM. http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/aemsession2-1.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/aemsession2-2.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/aemsession2-3.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/aemsession2-5.jpg The car feels great when you get into the revs! The engine really wants to breathe and this system gives it a rush of fresh air. When you start creeping up to that 5500rpm range, you can feel an increase in power. Right around when the shift light comes on in the video, you can hear the audible difference. In cabin noise is increased in a good way and driveability has not been affected so far. I have about 30 miles on the system with no issues and look forward to many more:party0030: That is all for now everyone. Our dyno partners are scheduled to have their dyno back up and running February 1st. So, expect those results in a few weeks, but for now we leave you with this..... Cheers! -Yo [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpDen4KnQwc"]AEM Scion FRS and Subaru BRZ Intake - YouTube[/ame] |
Been a few months since the last update, but with the spring thaw upon us here in Iowa, we are ramping things up for the builds on both cars. With STX being the target auto-x class for this car, we got a huge chunk of goodies installed that will get us in a competitive state. First up, suspension. Just a simple bolt on of Buddy Club Racing Spec coilovers for the first round of suspension bits. We are waiting on sway bars from Whiteline to show up on Tuesday. Already a huge improvement in turn-in and grip from these coils. Steering feel is much heavier over stock and the feedback is still there, just perfect in my opinion. We will see how they perform on track this coming Friday when our local road course opens up for the first open lapping day of the season. The ride is quite firm on these. I do have it only 2 clicks from full-stiff, but I am not sure full soft will make it change dramatically. Every bump, crack, and undulation in the road can be felt with this setup. I guess you can say, these are not for the faint of heart. http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/buddyclubRSFRS-6.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/Red_Enkei_RPF1-2.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/Red_Enkei_RPF1-4.jpg Next up, we had to give the car some more power and some sweet sounds. A full exhaust system is allowed in STX, so we went with the HKS 4-1 Equal Length Header, Perrin overpipe, Invidia catted front pipe, and a T1R 70R Sparrow single exit cat-back. No boxer-rumble here. Just the sweet high revving sounds of a high-compression, four cylinder engine. The exhaust song is reminiscent of the AP1 generation of the Honda S2000 and begs to wrapped out to redline. I am really looking forward to hearing this thing in the powerband all the way around the track, lap after lap. Under 4K rpm, the tone is quite tame. You know that the exhaust is there, but you don't have to worry about any unwanted attention when just cruising around town. Best part about the setup, no drone. Cruising rpms are still quiet and pleasant, and the system will not impede on any conversations you are having in the car:w00t: http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/33002BT001-3.JPG http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/HS12SSTFPC.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R...ei_RPF1-21.jpg We rounded up the the install with some new shoes for the car. With the silver car on matte black Enkei RPF1s, the red car was quite jealous, so we had to get her a set of her own. This time in silver finish the Enkei RPF1 in 17x9+35 are just the perfect fitment for these cars. The wheels wrapped with Hankook RS-3 in 255/40/17 and the added touch of Drop Engineering open ended lug nuts, give this car the look and feel that screams "TAKE ME TO THE TRACK"! http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R...ei_RPF1-29.jpg Enough with the chit chat...Let's get to the install pics and video:thumbsup: Full Mod list: AEM Intake HKS 4-1 EL Header Perrin Overpipe Invidia Catted Front Pipe T1R 70R Sparrow single exit cat-back Enkei RPF1 in silver 17x9+35 Hankook RS-3 in 255/40/17 Buddy Club Racing Spec coilovers http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R...ei_RPF1-10.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R...ei_RPF1-12.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R...ei_RPF1-15.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R...ei_RPF1-18.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R...ei_RPF1-20.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R...ei_RPF1-23.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R...ei_RPF1-24.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R...ei_RPF1-27.jpg [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2dhQgYaMtg"]HKS EL Header with T1R Catback on Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ - YouTube[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phf07oHkiZs"]HKS EL full exhaust vs Borla UEL full Exhaust on the Scion FR-S - YouTube[/ame] |
Mmm duel burnouts

Those are some beefy meats! (the tires)

DAM that TR1 exhaust sounds beautiful on there even with the header.

Yesterday, I went back and adjusted the dampeners. This time I went all the way to 2 clicks from full soft. I can say that the ride dramatically improved. Instead of being shaken to death, the suspension actually eats up some of the bumps and cracks in the road. It is definitely liveable, but barely! People that are more hardcore than myself would be perfectly fine and tell me I am a sissy, I'm sure :bonk:
More to come on the suspension after our track day :party0030: |
Meaty tyres. I love it Jeremy. You guys do great work. We love it

Where are you guys going? We will have our car our this weekend at two different tracks. I know you guys are in Des Monies, maybe you're headed East a little bit? |

It is possible that this catback paired with T1R's frontpipe and overpipe may bring the tip in....I am unsure. The tip does protrude a bit more than I was expecting, but that could be the result of having a hodge podge, pieced together exhaust system. Either way, I have grown to really like the way it sits in the rear bumper. Cheers! -Yo |

We got some new goodies in the shop the other day and wanted to share with everyone some great new products from Rexpeed. What we have here today are the Rexpeed Convex Side Mirrors and Rexpeed Carbon Fiber Mirror Covers. These are both great little touches that will set your FRS/BRZ apart from the others :w00t: and they won't bust your wallet ;) The quality on both items are exceptional. The convex mirrors are thick and the exact size to cover up the entire area of the existing mirror. Installation is as simple as "peel and stick". The Carbon covers are the same story. Beautiful carbon weave and the shape is perfect. These contour the exact shape of the mirror and cover up the entire painted area of the side mirror. No cheesy gaps that will show the color underneath. Attention to detail was definitely a priority with these pieces. As you can see in the pics, the visibility is greatly increased with the convex mirrors. We will also have a quick little demo video that will show the differences, as well. Here are some before and after pics of these pieces installed :coolpics: OEM/Before http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R..._Mirrors-1.jpg Rexpeed/After http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R..._Mirrors-2.jpg OEM/Before http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R..._Mirrors-4.jpg Rexpeed Carbon/After http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R..._Mirrors-5.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R..._Mirrors-6.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R..._Mirrors-7.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R..._Mirrors-8.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R..._Mirrors-9.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R...Mirrors-10.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/R...Mirrors-11.jpg |

Back from the dead. :) This car was sold last year to a local. They got some time to enjoy it before the car met it's doom in an unfortunate accident. We were notified that the car was totaled and an offer to buy it back was made. We couldn't let it go to be made into pop cans or whatever it is they do when totaled cars get crushed. We are going to rebuild it and make it into a NASA SPEC86 car. More ->https://www.facebook.com/groups/Spec86/ Follow along as we turn this into a Spec Racer. :) [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_X1CI-vRtYY"]FT86SpeedFactory - History in the Making - YouTube[/ame] http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/ft8615spec86-1.jpg http://ft86speedfactory.com/images/ft8615spec86-2.jpg |
