Waiting periods at Different dealerships

Hey guys, I'm finally going to place down my order for my 86 this weekend after what has felt like a eternity due to financial reasons, but I want to know if your waiting period would be a affected from a dealership with more orders as to a dealership with less total orders orders.

Im not sure of this has already been discussed, but I'm not sure how this ordering systems works.... To go with Sydney City Toyota (which i know has heaps of orders) or another one such as Chatswood or Sutherland? Difference or No Difference?

My car is a Orange GTS Manual.
cheers :)

The more orders the dealer has the longer you will wait.

The easiest thing to do is call a few dealers. Get it straight from them. If you aren't too picky on colour you might be able to get one sooner than i you are picky as well. The popular colours, like white, may have a longer wait than the not so popular colours like orange.

450hp/tonne 07-16-2012 09:08 AM

Wait times are now more about what grade/spec/colour than dealer. With initial allocations, yes, the dealer chosen would make a difference.
Unfortunately an Orange GTS Manual is the one with the longest wait (this build spec is the one the customer letter is about). Please don't be surprised when any dealer tells you 18 months ...

The dealer you choose makes a massive difference. The amount of cars a dealer gets has nothing to do with how many orders they have taken. There are dealers in Melbourne taking around 10 orders every week at the moment and are likely to get approx 2 cars a month. you do the math!!!

If you want ANY spec of 86, as you say, dealer is important.
If you specifically want an Orange GTS Manual, the wait is now over 18 months (source: Scott Thompson [TMCA Divisional Manager, National Marketing], today). Dealer makes less difference in this specific case.

hmmm, in this case i AM being picky with the colour, spec and transmission. I am really hoping that after placing my order this weekend that it will come by January and it won't be that hefty 18 month wait.
To me it doesn't add up to have 18 months here in Syd in relation to everyone else's orders here... :/

manonastick 07-16-2012 05:30 PM

pick a gt up and you may only have to wait 2 months ;D
it took my local dealer to sell their 2 gt models in 2 weeks to sell.

Sutty 07-16-2012 06:27 PM

The smaller the dealer the better chance of getting one early. If you are really keen there is a blue and a silver GT MT at Pacific Toyota, Cairns.

blood86 07-16-2012 11:52 PM

If anyone is up for a drive....

Silver GTS manual @ Katherine Toyota!!!

I'm from Sydney and I ordered one manual GTS in Tornado Grey two weeks ago. Dealer called up after the bulletin release and told me wait would be at least till June of next year up to 18 months. :mad0259: All it says on my tracking app is that the order is still and pending everything else.

As a result I'm looking at grabbing the GT (2-4 month wait, Feb next year at the worst) and using aftermarket parts to spruce it up.

benoh 07-17-2012 12:12 AM

That's the exact same spec that I got Billy and my dealer told me yesterday that it was unconfirmed for production for october delivery in november. it will probably be confirmed approximately a month before it is scheduled for production he says.

I ordered mine on the 23 June at Parramatta (Terry Shields) btw.

And from what I hear, GTS are 2years+ wait and GT are like 3-6months, maybe even more. In fact, my dealer aren't even selling GTS anymore, its simply not worth their time they say.

wow, this makes me feel real horrible for not ordering one earlier now.... I'm still going to follow through with my order and HOPE to god someone drops out and i get it heaps earlier than June, to help with that a little i guess i'll hit up a smaller dealership too..

davey90 07-17-2012 02:55 AM

I ordered mine through Sydney City, deposit in Feb dealer told me i'll be the first Pearl white, tracking In May, went in end of June for test drive. Dealer said "i'll be first to receive pearl white auto car in late July or early August".....checked my Toyota web tracking, still said "in production, Latest estimated pick up date 1/09/2012" called my Dealer back with what I saw on the net he said "ah yep! sound's about right..."

I went :paddle: hm.... haha!

hahaha wow, I'm starting to hate Toyota/Subaru for doing this.. If they could give a solid production date for each car it would be awesome, that way people can organise temporary cars till then (like me) lol

In a way it was unexpected though. Cheap, getting rave reviews from journos, looks great, limited production.

I just switched to a GT because of the wait, I'll do most of the cosmetic stuff myself with the money I save. Got a tentative date of Dec of this year.

Is there another letter from Scott Thompson ie: Waits on Orange GTS 86's, or how did you come across this info 450hp/tonne ??

llama_au 07-17-2012 07:12 AM

I want to wait until next year to order (because I don't have the money to pay for it in full this year if by some miracle it was to be delivered.) I'm scared if I order next year I won't even get one next year...

well this is sort of what i did. I waited until now to order because i wasn't sure when i'd have the money and definitely not ready to have it early. Now after hearing this massive wait, i am sort of regretting not placing an order earlier.

IMO place the $1k deposit now and if it come miraculously this year (highly unlikely) all you will lose is that deposit or you can refund it (depending on your contract). This is something I wish i had done earlier...

if the orange is much less popular than the white wouldn't that mean less of a wait? or do they produce more white to cover the percentage of orders? it would make more sense to me that the white would be 18months and the orange to be 8ish.. or i could be wrong all together lol

I'm a bit worried about this myself. My dealer keeps telling me that it's going to be 'October production date, November delivery' but hasn't given me the tracking details. He gave me the stock number, but not the other code. He said he'd let me know 'sometime this week' but I'm starting to wonder.

The car is a Orange GTS, which apparently has a huge wait on it. I ordered on the 25th of June.

I suspect he might be screwing me around to keep his sale, because I specifically put in the contract that I can pull out if the car isn't delivered by October.

If he's screwing me around and I have a 18 month wait, i'm going to be livid.

exactly man! pretty pissed, anyone know approx how long does it take for a car to be going through the production line and on to a ship and the time from the ship to Australia from Japan?

The reason i'm asking is because, it's nearly end of July, in June my order said "Build date: July 2012". So i'm assume it should be already built with an un-updated web tracking or they haven't even started my production....If the car has been through production and is on ship, doesn't it take another month or something for it to hit our shores?

July Built date could Mean 31st July. 2 Weeks on the dock in Japan, 2 Weeks on boat, 2 Weeks at the port and time for dealer to prepare - Mid Sept ???

damn...sounds about right. The web tracking said "Estimated Pick up Date: 01/09/2012" so it's a rough calculation of when i'll receive it. I hope it comes sooner then mid Sept though. Thanks blood86!

AGM6789 07-17-2012 10:36 PM

I went to the dealer the other day and asked for build dates, delivery etc. the salesman showed me a piece of paper with all the 86 orders on it and showed that mine will be an October build, November delivery. I was told when I ordered on the 21st of June that it will be a September build, October delivery...
I ordered a White GTS manual

I have the same on order (orange GTS manual). Ordered 18th June. Last update from dealer was Sept build / Oct delivery, so your info sounds about right. Finger crossed.

Thanks @Nardi330 for that indication. so if my car is built by the end of this month i'll receive by 01/09/2012 or probably earlier since that's what the web tracking is tell me.

What your dealer said means nothing unless it's on the tracking app. I wouldn't go by what your dealer said. Do you have your user/pass for the tracking site?

eckoflyte 07-18-2012 04:00 AM

Ordered 16th June (white GTS manual) and quoted sep build oct delivery like most other people here. Have my tracking number but status is planned production month: still to be confirmed. Anything can happen and I suppose you just gotta hope your dealer's quoted time is at least based on some sort of knowledge specific to him and the dealership (in my case Terry Shields Toyota Parramatta).

I was in the same boat @Isometric Bacon. I had asked a few times about the web access. I decided today that I would deal with it, called the dealer, gave them the "I'm the customer and if everything is ok with my order it shouldn't be a problem to give me information I need to log in" speech. I now have them.

I ordered an Orange GTS manual myself first week of June, and in the conversation today I was given the indication that it will probably be November build with maybe December, probably January Delivery. If this turns out to be the case I will be not very happy.

I ordered a GTS AT from the same dealer on 4th June. Was told it would be a June build and July delivery - then about a week later was told July build and August delivery (ETA: 25/8).

So yes 'anything' can happen.

Ordered in June and he told you it'd be built in June? Obviously I'm not surprised its been pushed back. I haven't seen any users on this forum get their cars built in the same month of ordering it.

I was debating whether to get AT or MT when the salesman showed me the incoming inventory - and the AT of the car I wanted was on the list (June build - July delivery). So I put my money down for that on the day. All I'm saying is that the car he showed me was probably already sold to someone else and he probably talked to his stock controller to secure me another one. Luckily I put my money down pretty early - there's no way they can pull off something like that now.

BTW how much did u pay for dealer delivery?

Mr Franky 07-18-2012 08:10 AM

You guys might be annoyed that you have been quoted Sept build, Oct delivery. You also might be annoyed that your tracking details don't update. I will tell you though you have it good. I changed my order at the start of May. I have been quoted Sept build, Oct delivery. Not only that but I haven't received my tracking details. So moral of the story, it could be a lot worse.
