RS 2.0 peeling rims with a positive outcome.
So to try and keep this short, I had a total of 3 rims peeling on my RS 2.0 after 5 months of buying the car new. They were replaced under warranty. A few months later all 4 started to peel.
I contacted Toyota Customer Service and started a case. I asked since there is an obvious flaw in the paint process if they would work with me. I asked since the stock rims are $400 and the TRD 18" rims are $250 if they would replace my rims the them and put a set of tires on the rims since they are 18's. this would come out to about the same $400 per wheel as just replacing my rims. Well after about 2 months of working with Toyota and the dealership, they agreed to do this. Since this was not normal warranty work, the did this as a "Good Faith Customer Service". I had to pay up front and then Toyota will reimburse me up to $1900. Since it was done this way I got the new TRD 18" rims with new tires and I got to keep my stock rims and tires too!! Toyota made a forever loyal customer. I was always kind and professional as were they. Awesome service!! |
hmmmm.......I haven't heard of peeling rims on stock FR-S before this.
Were you cleaning them with a sand blaster .... ?? (just kidding). Glad you were taken care of. humfrz |
Sometimes being respectful has its rewards.

It's interesting, RS 2.0 owners also report their rear spoilers coming off due to cheap double sided tape.
Quality control for the car seems pretty rushed. |
thats awesome! pix?

I have read that sentence like 10 times but I am struggling with understanding what was the deal the OP has made with the dealer. Can someone help explain? |

Sorry, I did not realize just how badly I had butchered that explanation. #proofread Any way, the stock rims ""$400.00 each" and tires are 17's. "as I am sure you know" The TRD rims "$250.00 each" Toyota agreed to give to me for all the trouble I have had with the RS 2.0 rims are 18's. Toyota also agreed to put tires on the TRD rims. They allowed me to spend up to $1900.00 on parts and labor to make sure I was a satisfied customer. |
Not meaning to look a gift horse in the mouth...
If those 18 inch TRD wheels are the TRD USA versions pictured below: http://s3.amazonaws.com/rp-part-imag...df8503429e.gif Be aware they are on the heavy side at about 23lbs. Not the end of the world, and I currently run them myself... but I also have a set of 14.7 lb wheels I am going to try out soon. |

i have the accessory wheels (exact same as the RS2.0 wheels but in the matte grey color) - not the painted shiny black like the ones that come on the RS2.0 - no problem whatsoever on these. maybe it only affects the shiny coating on the stock RS2.0 wheels

This explanation is simple yet crystal!! Thank you. |
I'd rather have the stock RS 2.0 forged wheels, even pealed , then the TRD wheels.
Or you could have gotten new replacements, sold them for some kind of $, and put that money towards Rays / Volk wheels (offset that cost), that would have been the ultimate. |
