Weird noise over 3500 rpm
I dont know if anyone has experience this...
when i accelerate over 3500 rpm,,i start hearing a noise like a louder version of HPFP sound, or a very small loosing metal moving so fast. It is noticable from the steer wheel/dash area. It is not the high pitch sound. When I let go my gas,,the sound stop. When i press the gas over 3500rpm,,it happens again. I just had my service 3 weeks ago, and everything is fine. Does any one experience this? Is it a big problem? Because i have a invidia N1 exhaust and i still hear it. I am sorry if i post on a wrong section. I dont know where i can post this. |
I bet it's the clutch return spring inside the master cylinder. I could not figure out the noise, sounded like engine to me and actually had me pretty worried until I stumbled onto an old thread.
Next time while it's doing it, tap the clutch pedal a little. Should just quit -poof- |

Do i hold the gas over 3500 and tap the clutch, or gas over 4500, let go of the gas and do it??@@ Noted: but it doesnt have the sound before 3500 rpm many thanks. |

Just tap the clutch pedal a little while it's loudest. If that's what it is, it will be obvious. It's like finding any old rattle, touch it and it disappears. |
Are you sure it ain't the turbo spooling up? Or possibly VTEC?

It's probably a metal piece vibrating. Have the car on the lifter and see if something's not fasten properly. What was serviced 3 weeks ago?

I have a creak like noise in that rpm range. Generally 2nd and 3rd gear. Maybe present in higher gears as well, though everything gets pretty loud. I first noticed it last summer, driving with the windows down. IE, I bought the car new (150 miles) in February.
It only happens when I dip into the throttle. Just a creak/squeak sound. It can also be with a rev match downshift in that range with the clutch fully depressed. It happens every time. I kind of just figured it was something mechanical in the engine. I reckon I ought to set up an appointment at some time or another. The nearest Subaru dealer is like an hour away, thus me putting it off. |

for my case,,it doesnt happen on high gear tho,, only 2nd/3rd 3500rpm + |
Yeah. It very well may not happen above 3rd. Things just get loud enough that I wouldn't be able to detect it either way.

What do they do for 22500 mile service in the States?
|
I believe this is normal. It is the variable valve timing (VVT) kicking in, so sort of like V-TEC. On a stock car it is probably fairly quiet but if you get a tune it will make it far more aggressive and it sounds like a tin can shooting around in your engine. Kicks in around 3500rpm-4500rpm where the dip is.
I complained in the past about this when I got my OFT but people seem to be OK with the tradeoff. Some info about VVT: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47263 |
I had this. Interestingly, it was loud with my old OFT tune, but I just flashed to the tune released in February and I'm not getting it anymore.
