Hello!
My name is Rich Nguyen and I'm a newly recruited Sales Rep at Subaru of Brampton. I've been wanting to get into a Subaru for a while (just having a hard time choosing between a BRZ or 5th Gen STI, any opinions or insight would be appreciated lol.) I have also just joined the Toronto Subaru Club Forum as well. I look forward to meeting and speaking with all of you! and if you guys have any questions for me feel free to message me! ......don't worry I'm not here to infiltrate the forum and work "undercover" lol, just thought this would be a great place to learn and communicate. Cheers!

Owning a twin and having driven an STI I can say that they're both fun but they're different kinds of fun. It's all about knowing your driving style, what you're going to be doing on the roads or on the track and making the decision accordingly. Personally, if I wanted a car that's a little more practical I'd go with the STI. If I lived in an area with long sweeping roads, I'd take an STI. If I wanted better fuel economy, I'd go for a BRZ. If I lived in an area with a lot of curvy and tight-turn roads, I'd go for a BRZ. Both cars have great aftermarket support and variety if that's what you're into. That said, there's a couple places you can start to get a general idea of the comparisons between the two. Check this thread out if you want. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87735 |
I'd go WRX or BRZ, really couldn't see myself buying the STI until they get rid of the EJ25 engine.

I don't need a whole lot of horsepower but the BRZ definitely could use a little more. I'm torn between the two and here are my pros and cons; Pros for the STI, 1. It has enough power for me, 2. The backseats are actually usable. I use the backseats every weekend (I take my nephews and niece out). 3. The STI is better in the snow (it would be a daily driver and so would the BRZ). and the Cons are; 1. Not the best fuel economy, 2. I prefer Coupes over Sedans. Some Pros for the BRZ; 1. Great Handling, 2. Sporty (Coupe) Styling, 3. Great fuel economy, 4. I sit lower to the ground. Some Cons for the BRZ; 1. Brutal Backseat space (I know, I know, what should I expect from a sporty coupe?), 2. RWD isn't exactly the best in the winter, 3. Not enough power.

The STI engine is old and horrible and drinks fuel like crazy.
Get a WRX, the only downside is it's a sedan. I've just traded my 2006 WRX Hatch for a BRZ, and other than the sound system being complete shit, I couldn't be happier. |
Hate to say it rich, but the FRS is the most capable winter vehicle I've ever driven. Beats out my work truck, my dad's truck, my mom's SUV, my old Camry, my old 626, the deuce and a half and the 14T truck I drive occasionally for the military.
Also, if you frequently use your back seats, I think your decision has been pretty much made for the STi. Though, like @wparsons said, id be getting the WRX until the EJ has been bye felicia'd |

I'll come say hi the next time I'm in for service!
I do all of my servicing there because John is the MAN, and has helped me out huge in the past and saved me lots of money. I also used to work with Aeric (the technician) so I will trust no other dealership with my car. Service is always second-to-none. Good luck in your new position! |

Well here's a first hand owner experience. Just a month ago I traded my stage 2, 2010 wrx for my BRZ and have not looked back or have a second thought.
My wrx had full exhaust intake and tune, was quite quick. And great practically... But I never loved it. Hard to explain loll It's in the point and squirt category, it'll go like a stabbed rat on straights but it wasn't fun or fulfilling to drive as a driver's car it rolled and pitched, it lagged, shifter was not great, it slipped (sti has lsds) . it felt way too loose... And the work needed to get it where I needed it didn't make sense... Plus burning oil loll that's something you need to look for if buying used. Now all of that could be better in the STI but I don't think it'll take it to another level of being a proper drivers car. My BRZ I wholeheartedly adore all of the check marks ticked on top of its gorgeous looks. No need to elaborate loll. The power isn't an issue for me but personal preference. And I drove it just fine in the ice storm we recently had. Now I'm going to tell you which to buy lol... Get the wrx/sti... Just one thing alone you mentioned throws the brz off the list. Back seats, if you use them that often get the wrx the brz won't work. In my 1.5 years of owning my wrx I used the back seats once! So I don't need it. Hope info helps some if any. P.s I'm going to be looking to buy sti parts for my BRZ got hookups? Sent from my LG-H812 using Tapatalk |
