I always heard about family cars being faster..

First of all, I love the BRZ! I'm not going to sell the car, nor upset at all :iono:

Its funny, I always heard on here about how minivans and soccer mom vehicles were faster than the BRZ. I would always think people saying it were silly, no way a 3500+lb family hauler with no hp would be faster at a red light..
Then at a red light earlier tonight, i actually had it happen to me!!! It was a Nissan rouge..

We were in a 3 lane street, with me being on the far left, and the rouge on my left. Cars are usually parked on the left side, but it was empty tonight so he was there. I assumed the rouge wanted to make a left turn at the red light we were waiting on, to the one way street on our left. As soon as the light goes green and he went straight I realized he was on the parking lane just trying to pass traffic, I normally don't care, but figured why not just get infront of him since I was already accelerating kind of fast and thought he was a jerk for driving on the parking lane. I went wot, shift into 2nd around 6k, keep wot...we are neck and neck! After about 4 seconds of my car screaming and his barely heard, I backed off and let him get infront of me.

My car has full bolt ons with 35whp added. While I know I didnt launch the car, I think this was embarrassing for the BRZ, haha. I found it so funny it finally happened to me, what everyone always joked about.

Why you shift at 6,000 if you dragging between lights. We only get our baby power after 4k, you left 1/3 of the effective power band on the table.

I mean, you shoulda bought a mustang

go_a_way1 03-17-2016 09:01 AM

Do full bolt ons really give you 35whp?? I never put my car on a dyno cuz frankly I could give 2 shits

jasonojordan 03-17-2016 09:08 AM

an e85 tune on its own gets close from what Ive read.

soulreapersteve 03-17-2016 09:18 AM

Sounds like you need some N2O.

Code:

Nissan rogue
QR25DE 2.5l, 4 cyl, 170hp (6000rmp) 175lb-ft (4400rpm) (no v-6 option)
Weight 1550
0 to 60 : 8.9 sec

Code:

FRS
FA20 2.0l, 4 cyl, 200hp, 150 lb-ft
weight ~1250
0 to 60 ~6.5 (with a good launch)

I think you did something wrong :bonk:(6k rpm shift ?? way too soon)
Even with a bad launch he should not have been able to get in front of you even less with full bolt on!

Having said that, letting him go was certainly better than street racing him.
I hate when people do stuff like that but I'm not gonna do worst then them either ...

The guy probably didn't even notice the OP was trying to out accelerate him.

That is the best part about the story :bellyroll:

Driver error.

KL 03-17-2016 11:43 AM

Yeah, something doesn't sound right. One of my parent's cars is a Rogue and even though it can be reasonably expedient when empty it's never been fast enough to keep up with my BRZ and I'm not even fully bolted.

zc06_kisstherain 03-17-2016 12:32 PM

i already admitted 200hp cannot compete minivans..

Vmax911 03-17-2016 12:47 PM

Torque curve differences?

Nismo rogue?

you running 87 octane?

:iono:

That's why I never try to race anyone, so I never lose.

There are tons of grocery getters that would destroy our cars at the light..Half the forum "these cars are for corners bruh":bonk:

Geeeez people drive your cars!

JD001 03-17-2016 02:47 PM

In the UK sports cars are disguised as white vans driven by expert racing drivers and no matter what super car you drive you'll never win.

at least you can still beat civics

There's no replacement for displacement.

seeing as most tend to do between 165-175 whp stop and some people have gotten over 200whp on bolt ons I would say yes, you can get a 35+whp from bolt-ons (may or may not require moving to e85, just going off the top of my head so can't remember the specifics)

Probably booking something like 10hp on tune, 20hp on header, 5hp on catback and 5hp on intake.

Hooray internet benchracing. Realistically 20whp from header/tune, intake and catback are well under 5whp unless you cherry pick your comparison dyno runs and +10whp from E85.

I think the only way to really surpass any of that is if you buy top of the line stuff, ACE header+front pipe+custom Delicious tune on pump gas looks like it gets you to ~25-30whp on a favorable day, but that's a >$3k setup. That's nearly FI money right there though...

themadscientist 03-18-2016 05:19 AM

And a CVT at that. We may have to drum you out of the corps.

Or disguised as semi truck drivers.

You are bad and you should feel bad. You have brought shame to the 86 family.
