Whiteline Com 'C' Strut Mounts

I remember a while back people having problems with these clunking and popping. Does anyone know if Whiteline ever fixed that issue? I think it was related to the open bearings they were using.

df.dima 03-16-2016 10:52 PM

As far as I remember reading in other threads, they gave up and pulled the plug on those...

I noticed that FT86speedfactory still has them on their site. Maybe you should contact them to see if they have any in stock.

IIRC someone posted that they changed the bearing. I think they ended up using the same bearing as OEM, but with a metal seal.

They changed the bearing, but it didn't fix the issue. They actually sent me a new set with a couple machined washers that they said they were testing. I didn't want to go through the hassle of swapping them to only have issues again so I went with HVT mounts and haven't had any problems.

I still have the Comp-C's NIB if anyone is interested. Otherwise, was just going to throw them up on Nasioc for a WRX/Impreza owner instead.

Nope. That's the Subaru conical washer. I was running those and still had bearing problems. The ones they sent me look like this:

I think its bearing axis should be inclined somewhat.

I've tried conical washers but bearings failed in the same way.

They still make them, but don't list them for the FRS/BRZ. They don't have issues on the impreza chassis, but something about the strut angle on these cars doesn't play nice with the bearing.

Bringing this back from the grave, has anyone ever had a set that didn’t make noise long term??

I managed to get wished camber & keep rubber top mounts via other means. -3 at stock height with camberbolts in both holes + powerflex bushing PFF69-801G. Pitty about no non failing bearings revision of compatible Com-Cs for twins, but i got what i wished at end.

What a shame. I’m considering group N rubber top hats but they do not have nearly the same benefits as a silent Com C would have.

One of the products we'd love to make is a long lasting fixed camber plate with some rubber for reasonable NVH. Got a couple other things in the pipeline in the meantime, but hopefully we can make something like that in the future.

I'd suggest just buying the RACESENG CASCAMs and be done with it. I have been through the COMCs previously and they never lasted.

Very interested in something like this.

churchx 04-18-2018 01:45 AM

norcalpb: as in, what a shame? Yes, i use group n topmoints, but i might aswell have used stock top mounts. Group n ones are not excentric in same fashion as stock mounts, just of stiffer rubber (and also btw Com-Cs supposedly are of same more rigid rubber as Group N ones). That eccentric bushing i mentioned goes in front LCA rearmost end. NVH with pillowball camplates was issue for me too, so i'm happy to had managed to get -3 w/o slotting or camberplates.

I would love to see this come through the pipes!

My com-c's have been on the car for like 6-7 years now, although I've just recently started getting some funny noises. I'll probably get another set when I overhaul the rest of the suspension (possibly with RCE T0s)- they aren't that expensive and worked well enough for me.

This is good to hear. I don’t care about small noises as long as my strut tower doesn’t sound like a 200 year old rocking chair when I get off the track.

If my HVT mounts can’t be rebuild, I’m gonna give these a chance

churchx 04-19-2018 02:33 AM

norcalpb: i wouldn't. Imho he is exception that proves the rule. For most of rest bearings started bind rather soon. Revised revisions didn't help. Modified top washer didn't help. Noises when turning wheel lock to lock are not the bad thing, those can be tolerable. What's bad, that with binding bearing that noise is made with spring turning, wearing down spring seats. Many really wanted rubber top mounts but with more camber. Many tried to make these work. Most failed, so imho not worth to try just because for just one they miraculously worked :)
