It's buildup from you letting the system go dry.

Mavs got it right, you should probably flush the coolant and replace with OEM or go the evans waterless coolant route. |
So it's normal? So I should just regularly check to make sure the coolant levels are good and the aliens will go away lol

I would do a coolant flush (aka radiator flush) and every time I would add water, id make sure it was distilled. Do you drive your car often? Maybe it's just settled debris. |
Have you watched South Park regularly ? And season 19 totally ruled !
Season 19 Episode 4 'You're Not Yelping'. And for those of you in a hurry, it's last two minutes of that show...'The Yelper's Special'. When a restaurant server gets complaints about the food, must take it back to the kitchen, there's no telling what he/she will do with the food once in the kitchen, before it goes back to the customer. Possibly a factory worker did the same to your cooling system. |

Minor buildup is not an issue, but over time it will slowly reduce the efficiency of your cooling system. And as others have said, whatever you do don't just fill it with tap water. -alex |

Don't forget to pressure check tires monthly, oil weekly (imo) and just do a simple walk around your car. |
Have the same, wiped it out, will flush at 60k miles which should be about 4-5 years of ownerships, nice to know it was from the time my reservoir was dry.

The over flow tank was left dry by the dealer I took it too! Fml I trusted them

Also people have noticed the evaporation rate drop considerably with mishimoto hoses. |

Subaru version is the same but almost $15 cheaper: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Subaru-SOA868V9270-Super-Coolant/dp/B007NLOZAU/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1453861960&sr= 1-1&keywords=subaru+blue+super+coolant"]Amazon.com: Genuine Subaru SOA868V9270 Super Coolant: Automotive[/ame] More info: http://parts.cioccasubaru.com/p/Suba...wd=&origin=pla |
In almost two years of ownership I've added exactly one quart of distilled water to my coolant system and about half that much to my battery. I honestly don't recommend accepting any coolant loss. Slow coolant loss means failure to maintain system pressure.
