Auto Shifting in Manual Mode

So I just received the lovely engine check light on my A/T FR-S, and whenever I'm in manual mode, it's auto shifting at around 7,100 rpm. Anybody know the reason why or how to fix it?

Thank You,

CEL disables a lot of stuff, may include flappy paddles.

You need to find out what is actually causing your CEL first.....

Either get your own code reader or see if your local auto parts shop will let you use theirs. Once you know what the code is it will be a lot easier to fix the problem.....

Just to eliminate the possibility, are you sure that you did not set your rev limiter at 7,100? That might force it to upshift on you even with 100% throttle in manual mode. Probably not a good idea to keep revving it up to 7,100 while you have a CEL as well.....

I reset the battery last night, and the CEL was gone, but after driving for about 15 miles this morning it came back again. It's just really weird because my car is an A/T but when I'm in Manual it reacts like its in A/T and just auto shifts instead.

Anytime you disconnect the battery it will probably clear those CEL codes. When the light shows back up again after it was cleared you have some type of problem.

You and us need to know what code you have so we can try to help. A CEL can pop up from so many different things ranging from your gas cap not being tightened to a rod punching a nice hole in your block. Once you have the code google it as someone has most likely ran into it before and you will probably find out if it is something trivial or something you should be concerned about

EDIT: To somewhat amend my earlier post: I have an A/T as well. Even if you set the rev limiter it will just bounce off of it and jerk the car in manual mode so it should not be auto shifting.

Go to autozone, they will tell you the code for free. Then tell us the code. Or google the code.

I just bought an OBDII scanner, and the code is P0171

Code is P0171, also checked my intakes, everything is very tight, so nothing is loosening.

P0171 is running lean. Do you have any mods on your car such as header, tune, or intake?
