if you can barely afford the supercharger and money in apparently a problem with your build, im just curious on how you can afford a 2016 WRX? If I could afford a 2016 WRX I would definitely have the money to get a quality supercharger like a kraftsworks.

What the hell are you talking about? I didn't buy a supercharger? Nor do I want one, I bought a turbo. Why WORKS? It's the power level I am looking for from a very reputable company whom uses quality parts. How can I afford a 2016 wrx? I have a job, and went to school...

As the original thread got moved to the "classifieds" section because pricing was involved, some info was lost and this thread should carry that torch. There's several cars out there and we've been doing long term testing with a local here.

The basics are that it works...and works fine. (pun intended). The heat shielding works. The battery is warm but not hot, track use we can't say but the works guys are using that way.

We've had challenges on pump gas non-intercooled because of the heat, lots of timing retard but it is comparable to the non-intercooled SC option. You have to pull a good deal of timing but it does work at the 220 or so whp level without the cooler. The cooler does work, e85 enables you to cheat though and the cooler matters little then. The customer car here got the prototype intercooler and we were able to come down on the timing retard a good bit.

CARB compliance is a huge game changer because the market just went up exponentially. But here's something else that we worked on just today that may change the equation a bit as well.

Unfortunately, while testing the stage 2 intercooled upgrade, the cat in the aftermarket header being used on the test car failed. It sent chunks to the turbine and locked up the turbo. The car ran fine for a good bit until we could ship in a replacement, but it turns out the replacement upgrade we ordered had a different bolt pattern/bore size than the original journal bearing t28 so we had to figure something out quick since the customer had to go for the day. End result? We pulled off one of the just released GTX2971R turbos from our upcoming MX5 turbo kit. With the smaller compressor housing we used for that and the fact that a gtx29 bolts up to a t25 exhaust housing, we got that turbo to fit with a few custom machined adapters we made last minute for the intake hose and the outlet discharge. End result is that we were able to squeeze in a 500hp capable turbo into the hard parts of this kit. Total fab time was about 1 hour given that we just needed to make a 3"-2.5" adapter and add a 2" spacer to the turbo outlet, then notch the mounting bracket for the injector cover and wastegate. We could have made it prettier with more time but this means that you can upgrade this system to more than most will ever utilize with off the shelf parts. We didn't have time to crank up the boost since it was 830 pm by the time we finished, but at 14 psi this should hit no different than the 400+ whp we see with smaller turbos.

Plan is to have some dyno time scheduled later this month to crank up the boost via EBCS tuning, but right now we got it going on WG pressure and it is pretty strong. We actually dropped a couple of psi due to the decreased backpressure, but power output was still good since we're getting the same amount of air/fuel at 7 psi as we were getting at 10 psi. Biggest concern we had were was the potential for boost creep given the downpipe design, however, even at 7500 RPM we saw none so that is a good sign and we should push this system to 400+ hp on e85 once we get it back on the rollers.

One of the holes on the mounting bracket had to be cut into a slot instead, but the turbocharger was still solidly held to the block and the two didn't move independently.

Thanks for responding to my question regarding compressor to engine bracket.


I have the works stage 1. Planning on upgrading the turbo as well because I am getting use to current power level.


Question: Did you change the turbine housing as well? If so, can you specify the specifics of the turbine housing? A/R? Internal waste gate?
